[Walmart Limited Edition for 2026] I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I miss real Drumsticks. They were a goto for me in the 200X years and definitely a more frequent guest during the first five years of this blog. The last non-traditional Drumstick review was in 2024 (the slurpee version) and then the last time I had an official, coated Drumstick was way back in 2015 (the butterfinger version). 

That's kind of crazy if you think about it. How did they go from being one of my favorite treats to nothingness? I blame the food science that is frozen dairy dessert. I do get tempted every year to bring a new box home, and then, finally, one day at Walmart not so long ago, I saw this eye catching box and decided to bring home...

New on Shelves: Van Leeuwen Spring 2023 Lineup

[March-May 2023] I have a question.... is it time to stop reviewing Van Leeuwen flavors? I'm feeling pretty cranky in 2023. I feel like the freezer aisle is a mix of stuff that doesn't have the texture of true ice cream or stuff that doesn't have a flavor of (somewhat) traditional ice cream, aka it's all one big dumb gimmick and it's wearing me out.

Ok, let me step back for a moment. It's not that I wouldn't try all of these flavors except the hidden valley ranch one because I have yet to see a comment from someone who enjoyed it. It seems the best result you can hope for is not spitting it out the second it hits your tastebuds.

I think my biggest problem is how this stuff gets to my local Walmart. As I picked up these pints to get a picture, they were not cold or solid. I'm tired of spending five bucks on a pint that either has irredeemably hard cake bits or a pint that makes my stomach upset for who knows what reason. 

I want to be happy that Van Leeuwen is spicing up a Walmart freezer aisle that has become pretty devoid of personality, but instead I just get ticked because I never know what I'm going to get. Plus, it's not like there is a Walmart with a grocery store in every town, I'm not hiking an extra 20+ minutes for pints that could be just as frustrating as the ones near my house.

So, I leave this one up to you dear reader. If you try one of these, let us know how it goes, or if you just want to sound off that you already gave up on Van Leeuwen, that's fine too. Please keep in mind that this is not a "I hate Walmart" debate even though it probably sounds like it.

Second, I never found that Talenti special batch caramel gingerbread gelato despite visiting several different grocery store chains. Third, I gotta post something, so let me chime in and say that these kit kat branded things are terrible. Granted, I have a fairly strong disdain for all Nestle / Edy's / Dreyer's products at this point in my life, but I need to point out how near flavorless these foolish things are.

I did something foolish. I ignored the voice that told me to skip this because I had hoped there might be a chance that it would be decent. Well, I was wrong.

I really hate the texture of these things. Sure, a decade ago, I was a big fan of the cookies & cream one that Hershey had put out, but nowadays, it's just food science and profit margins.

I never went back after those first few sips. I've had similar products with similar textures and I have no interest in them. I'd much rather get something from Promised Land Dairy because those are delicious.
