Talenti Strawberry Margarita Sorbetto Pairings

[2022 - 2023] There are four new Talenti pairings this year.... and I managed to pick the one that I hated from the very first (tiny) bite.

Haagen-Dazs Irish Cream Brownie Ice Cream

[New for 2019] Good news for our spirit enjoying friends out there. I was thinking that the Spirits line was dead for 2022 because, well, it tends to not get much love in grocery stores. Well, I was wrong! The more popular flavors are being rolled in to the main HD lineup. The flavors transitioning are bourbon praline pecan, bourbon vanilla bean truffle, rum tres leches and...

Coolhaus Bananas Foster Ice Cream
aka do you ever forget about your ice cream?

Hey everyone, still here. Got a few reviews in the queue that I just can't seem to finish. A side effect of spending all day in the home office is that I have no urge to blog when the work day is done. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way, but I apologize anyway.

To buy me another day or two to finish up what's in the queue, may I present this flavor... that was part of a free shipment back in 2017....  It's funny because I had finally found Coolhaus' plastic pints at Shaw's, and then they offered up a free selection of their new paper pints.

Turkey Hill Triple Vanilla Trio'politan Ice Cream

[New for 2019] Unfortunately Turkey Hill hasn't served up a whole lot of newness for us this year. In fact, it seems like the whole mainstream ice cream scene is not doing so well this year (try to think of something truly new from Breyers, Edys, Turkey Hill, etc). That said, I do love ending my days with a nice cup of vanilla ice cream, so let's see if this will do.

Haagen-Dazs Spirits Line Up

The spirits branding is disappering for 2022. Remaining flavors include Irish Cream Brownie, Rums Tres Leches, Bourbon Praline Pecan and Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle.

[New for 2019] Everyone remembers I rarely like alcohol inspired flavors right? And yet, I bought one of these new spirit inspired Haagen-Dazs flavors anyway as an excuse to bring you some news but also a bit of hands on experience. Well, I took one bite, spit it out, and called it a day. Let's see if you can guess which one I tried?

Gelato Fiasco Sunken Treasure Gelato

[New for 2018] Ok, I think it's well past the time that we try this next flavor. This free sample has been patiently waiting for a month trying to get my attention... well, let me clarify. I keep thinking about it, but it's just never in my general vicinity when I do. Let's finally dig in to...

Ben & Jerry's Urban Bourbon Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for 2017] Seeing as Dubba has had the photos for this review for a couple of weeks now, maybe I should send him some words to go with it.

Haagen-Dazs White Russian Ice Cream

[By Jeffrey, New for Canada late 2016] Your friendly neighborhood Junk Food Jeff with another review from north of the border. Last week, I was lucky enough to be the first person to spot the new Haagen Dazs White Russian Ice Cream which contains 1% abv (note: it isn't noted on packaging at all, just according to the Nestle sales rep I talked to). This is their first mainstream alcohol-infused ice cream and apparently the first flavor in a line of these slightly drunken desserts.

Perry's Bourbon Caramel Pecan Ice Cream

[New for early 2016] Please take the following post as more of a flavor announcement than an actual review. Perry's was nice enough to send over three new flavors back at the end of January and while alcoholic flavors are never my thing, it wouldn't be fair to not show it to you. Well, that, and they just sent over some spring stuff so we need to dig in to those now too.

Ben & Jerry's New Belgium Salted Caramel Brown-ie Ale Ice Cream

[New for Fall 2015] So back in April, Ben & Jerry's and New Belgium announced that they were making an ice cream inspired Ale. Well, apparently the partnership didn't end there as they have now announced an Ale inspired ice cream with some proceeds going to Protect Our Winters. (click here for the entire press release).

[for 2015 only] Alright, I decided to spare Nick the trouble of having to review this one. There is the off beat chance my wife will like it, so that'll have to be reason enough to pick up...

Gelato Fiasco Spiked Eggnog Gelato

[By Nick, left after 2015] Time to give my uneducated opinion on another eggnog flavor! Not only that, this one is mixed with alcohol. We all know I'm not too familiar with alcoholic products but I have encountered both marsala and bourbon in other products so let's see how this goes.

Gelato Fiasco Santa's Little Helper Gelato

[By Nick, 2014 only] Before my trip to Maine, The Gelato Fiasco also sent me some free samples of their new flavors to review like they did for Dubba. Seeing as its officially December and it's snowing/sleeting/raining here, I guess it's time to look at their new...

Brigham's Frozen Pudding Ice Cream

Let's be honest, there's not a whole lot going on in the ice cream world right now. Besides the fine folks of Gelato Fiasco cranking out a ton of new stuff, the next month or two is probably going to be pretty devoid of any new product releases. So what's an ice cream fan to do during these chilly months? Well, wait for crazy products to go on sale ofcourse!

Quick Scoop: New Orleans Bananas Foster

The New Orleans Ice Cream company was cool enough to insist that I try all their flavors despite my inherent aversion to alcohol based ice creams. To make it even tougher, this one has got banana in it to. Oh this won't be pretty.... let's keep this short and sweet.

This is New Orleans Ice Cream Company's Bananas Foster ice cream. It's "A classic New Orleans Dessert is given life as real banana pieces are blended with a rich caramel ice cream. nutmeg and rum add depth to this delight". Let's be honest, this one sounds way more fancy then I can handle.

Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato Review

[By Nick, New for 2013, discontinued before 2016] Ever since my fairly positive encounter with Ben & Jerry’s Liz Lemon earlier this year, I have been seriously craving lemon flavored desserts. A quick glace through the freezer isle shows that lemon is a very neglected flavor when it comes to creamy applications. Sure there are tons of sorbets and Italian ices but there is little to none of it in ice cream form. So with one Haagen-Dazs gelato under my belt and a hunger for some lemon goodness, I thought it would be the perfect time to pick up Haagen-Dazs Limoncello Gelato.

Haagen-Dazs describes this one as “creamy lemon gelato with vodka.” Now I normally stay away from alcohol infused flavors since I’m straight edge and so I’m not really sure what to expect. However, one of my alcoholic versed friends informed me that vodka is essentially flavorless. Well okay, but then why would they include it in the first place since it adds no flavor? Whatever the case may be, I was less hesitant to give this one a try than I originally was.

Sundae Sunday with New Orleans Ice Cream Company

Alright mes amis, it's time to get New Orleans Ice Cream Company back up on the blog. Now they've gone and done me the awesome favor of sending EVERY single flavor that I haven't tried yet, so it seems only fair to go big with their first return post.

This is today's trifecta of craziness. See, if there is one thing you need to take away from this post, it's that New Orleans ICC strives to be both adult and fun, much like the city that spawned it. They aren't aiming to get your kids' attention, they want the grown ups in the room to know what the city is all about. I just don't think anyone else really compares to them in that regard, at least not around here.

New Orleans Ice Cream Company Afternoon Snack
Cajun Rum Raisin and Peach Melba

So with all the hub bub of wrapping up 2012 with the big holiday season, I forgot to finish up this post on the last two New Orleans ice cream flavors shipped to me last year. New Orleans ICC makes some epic flavors so you are probably thinking "Dubba, that's terrible of you to wait so long!" Well, you're right, but let's read the description on this first pint and then you'll understand.

This is Cajun Rum Raisin and if you are like me, that Cajun part has you a little afraid. "Ragin' Cajun" is the first thing comes to my mind and I don't think my gut is that far off. "Plump Raisins soaked in Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum & A Unique Cayenne Kick Make This Unique Flavor A Creamy, Spicy Delight".

New Orleans Ice Cream Co.
White Chocolate Bread Pudding Ice Cream Review

Oh man, where do I even begin this review? I know, let's start by thanking the fine folks of the New Orleans Ice Cream Company for sending not 1, not 2, but 8 pints of their "all natural, hand crafted, ultra premium ice cream". Oh I love ice cream and our friends to the south don't mess around. Here, go over to their site for a second, and then come back here, I'll wait....

Back? Good. Their site is a little behind so it only lists 12 of their 22 robust flavors, but you get the idea --- UPDATE: You can see (and order) most of their flavors on icecreamsource.com

I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I'm looking at the pints in my freezer and I don't even know where to start. For example, there's a peach melba flavor. Ok, sounds straight forward right? It's probably vanilla ice cream with peaches, but no no no my friend. There's also almonds and a raspberry swirl! Who thinks of these things? I know I don't. How am I ever going to run an ice cream company when there are so many creative and talented people out there on this fine planet of ours?

I perused all 8 pints and I decided to go with the blue one. Seriously, how am I suppose to pick? Every flavor is funky and deserves to go first, but this one says white chocolate and I think I like bread pudding... well, I know I love bread, and I love pudding, so that's the same thing right?

Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls
A limited edition ice cream review

New for Fall 2011 : Oh, this one is gonna be tough... must resist urge to make juvenile jokes over and over again...   like pretty much every other website.... Hey, speaking of that, how come all those high profile websites got free ice cream and t-shirts while I had to travel to -8- grocery stores to finally track down a pint of this stuff? In fact, I almost missed it. My pint was all by itself, all the way at the back of the freezer, spun around so that all I could see was the S in Schweddy.

Ok, time to post a real review up on the net,
one that actually has pictures of the ice cream!

Ok, I think everyone has seen this view by now, but just incase you haven't, here's the description: Vanilla Ice Cream with a Hint of Rum & Loaded with Fudge Covered Rum & Malt Balls. When alcohol is mentioned, I worry that we could have another bonaroo buzz on our hands, but let's hope for the best!
