New Orleans Ice Cream Co. Mississippi Debris

[By Nick] Awhile back, New Orleans Ice Cream sent me a shipment of flavors to try for fun knowing that Dubba had reviewed a large portion of their offerings. Thankfully there was one flavor in the shipment that has yet to be covered

New Orleans Cafe Au Lait & Beignets Ice Cream

Well, New Orleans Ice Cream Company has done it again. Somehow, through the magic of food science, they've made me almost enjoy something I despise. You guys know I hate coffee ice cream, but they've found a way to dial it back in such a way that I actually took more than three small bites! For me, that's huge.  It's a brave new world people.

Red Velvet Rivalry with Brigham's
and New Orleans Ice Cream Company

As we wrap up summer and prepare for fall (and watch the sad series finale of Burn Notice SNIFF SNIFF), I seem to have once again let something sit too long in the freezer. So much for having a friday night fight, so let's dig into the fresh stuff first and then we'll do a little visual recap of the the NOICC flavor.

Quick Scoop: New Orleans Bananas Foster

The New Orleans Ice Cream company was cool enough to insist that I try all their flavors despite my inherent aversion to alcohol based ice creams. To make it even tougher, this one has got banana in it to. Oh this won't be pretty.... let's keep this short and sweet.

This is New Orleans Ice Cream Company's Bananas Foster ice cream. It's "A classic New Orleans Dessert is given life as real banana pieces are blended with a rich caramel ice cream. nutmeg and rum add depth to this delight". Let's be honest, this one sounds way more fancy then I can handle.

New Orleans Toasted Coconut Ice Cream

Quick Scoop: You all know that I don't really like coconut, so we'll keep this short and sweet.

This is a free sample of New Orleans Ice Cream Company's Toasted Coconut Ice Cream. Notice the unique pint design. The description reads "This 'Limited Edition' Flavor, Complete with Artwork by New Orleans Artist Elleone, is Laced with Real Coconut".

When I first opened this pint, it had a buttery smell to it which has mostly faded and been replaced by the smell of  shaved coconut. I dig in slowly (twice now) and it's not bad actually. It's got big meaty shavings of coconut which some will adore, and the base is nice and sweet. It's a fine flavor.... and I'm actually fairly tempted to keep eating it. There's almost a candy filling vibe that is trying very hard to keep my attention.

I don't need to love coconut to know they did a fine job on this one.

New Orleans Lemon Doberge Cake Ice Cream

Let's continue our journey through these free samples from New Orleans Ice Cream Company.

Lemon Doberge Cake is described as "This Twist on a New Orleans dessert classic has tangy lemon sauce & real lemon cake in our citrus lemon ice cream". That's a lot of lemon, but they say tangy, not tart, so there is definitely hope for this one.

New Orleans Mint Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream

Ok, I'm still working my way through all the free samples that New Orleans ice cream company sent over. There's one in particular I've been saving for a special occasion.

New Orleans Ice Cream Company Mardi Gras Pie

[New for 2013] When New Orleans ice cream company released the news that they were releasing a Mardi Gras Pie flavor this year, I was hoping they might contact me for a free sampling. Well,  to my great amusement, they did, and now it's time to show you what they sent over.
This may sound dumb, but I love the blue. I need to remember it for when I start up my ice cream company. Anyway, New Orleans Mardi Gras Pie ice cream is "Mardi Gras in your mouth with this parade favorite - gooey marshmallow ice cream with marshmallow swirl, chocolate flakes & soft graham cracker. you'll be hollerin': "throw me one, mister!". That is one mighty description to have to live up to.

New Orleans Ponchatoula Strawberry
and New Orleans Baked Alaska

April showers never happened, and now here we are in beautiful May. The strawberries in the store aren't quite in season yet,  but that doesn't mean I'm not in the mood for a nice fresh berry kick.

This is New Orleans Ponchatoula Strawberry Ice Cream. "A smooth and creamy strawberry ice cream bursting with the freshest Ponchatoula strawberries". I do love strawberry ice cream!

Sundae Sunday with New Orleans Ice Cream Company

Alright mes amis, it's time to get New Orleans Ice Cream Company back up on the blog. Now they've gone and done me the awesome favor of sending EVERY single flavor that I haven't tried yet, so it seems only fair to go big with their first return post.

This is today's trifecta of craziness. See, if there is one thing you need to take away from this post, it's that New Orleans ICC strives to be both adult and fun, much like the city that spawned it. They aren't aiming to get your kids' attention, they want the grown ups in the room to know what the city is all about. I just don't think anyone else really compares to them in that regard, at least not around here.

New Orleans Ice Cream Company Afternoon Snack
Cajun Rum Raisin and Peach Melba

So with all the hub bub of wrapping up 2012 with the big holiday season, I forgot to finish up this post on the last two New Orleans ice cream flavors shipped to me last year. New Orleans ICC makes some epic flavors so you are probably thinking "Dubba, that's terrible of you to wait so long!" Well, you're right, but let's read the description on this first pint and then you'll understand.

This is Cajun Rum Raisin and if you are like me, that Cajun part has you a little afraid. "Ragin' Cajun" is the first thing comes to my mind and I don't think my gut is that far off. "Plump Raisins soaked in Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum & A Unique Cayenne Kick Make This Unique Flavor A Creamy, Spicy Delight".

Double shot of New Orleans Ice Cream Company

Hmmm, apparently this is the week of double shot reviews, though technically I do have an excuse for this one too. New Orleans Ice Cream company was nice enough to send over a nice selection of pints for me to try, but apparently this next pint unfroze at some point. I hate to waste, so we're still going to run through it anyway.

This is New Orleans Praline Crunch. Now the standard company would throw something out like "praline pecans in vanilla ice cream", maybe throw in some caramel, and be done with it... but not these guys. "Our delicately flavored praline ice cream with crunchy whole caramel pecans. A N'awlins Favorite". Read that again -- the base is praline flavored and the pecans are caramel flavored. That's just silly.

New Orleans Satsuma Dreamsicle Ice Cream

Yet again New Orleans Ice Cream company has delivered another free pint of ice cream excellence. You know me, I don't just say something is good because it was free. I mean it here. Just you just wait and see, they'll be spreading across the country before you know it. I see big things in New Orleans future.

Hubigs Apple Pie Ice Cream
from New Orleans Ice Cream Company

Oh geez, I've gone and got myself backlogged again. I know I did the Wonka reviews a little too close together (partially because of my refusal to put them all in one post), so I wanted to take my time with the New Orleans Ice Cream reviews. It's good stuff and seems deserving of some better spacing as they begin their nationwide rollout. Problem is, now I feel like I'm behind the 8-apple ball.

This is Hubigs Apple Pie Ice Cream from New Orleans ice cream. Now Hubigs isn't some funky spice or cooking style, it's a New Orleans bakery institution that is beloved by many. Unfortunately tragedy struck early Friday morning,  July 27th, 2012. The bakery was destroyed by fire. It was a sad day for the community. Hubigs was knocked out for four months after Katrina yet went on to regularly feed the overworked local police and firefighters with unsold pies during the recovery (You can read more here). I wish them the best in their recovery efforts and if you are interested, the best way to help right now is to keep Hubig's in your thoughts, prayers, tweets, newsfeeds, and shirt closet. Until they are back on their feet, they can't make anymore of this ice cream.

New Orleans Ice Cream Company
Creole Cream Cheese Ice Cream Review

No time to waste, we need to jump right into this one.

This is New Orleans Ice Cream Company's Creole Cream Cheese ice cream though I have no idea what Creole means... ok, do I ever know these things mean? Wiki says it's a mild and slightly sweet cream cheese. The container says it's "a local delicacy, fresh farmers style cream cheese gently blended into our delicious ice cream". Hmmm, no mixins? Interesting.

New Orleans Ice Cream Co.
White Chocolate Bread Pudding Ice Cream Review

Oh man, where do I even begin this review? I know, let's start by thanking the fine folks of the New Orleans Ice Cream Company for sending not 1, not 2, but 8 pints of their "all natural, hand crafted, ultra premium ice cream". Oh I love ice cream and our friends to the south don't mess around. Here, go over to their site for a second, and then come back here, I'll wait....

Back? Good. Their site is a little behind so it only lists 12 of their 22 robust flavors, but you get the idea --- UPDATE: You can see (and order) most of their flavors on icecreamsource.com

I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I'm looking at the pints in my freezer and I don't even know where to start. For example, there's a peach melba flavor. Ok, sounds straight forward right? It's probably vanilla ice cream with peaches, but no no no my friend. There's also almonds and a raspberry swirl! Who thinks of these things? I know I don't. How am I ever going to run an ice cream company when there are so many creative and talented people out there on this fine planet of ours?

I perused all 8 pints and I decided to go with the blue one. Seriously, how am I suppose to pick? Every flavor is funky and deserves to go first, but this one says white chocolate and I think I like bread pudding... well, I know I love bread, and I love pudding, so that's the same thing right?
