More Dr. Bombay Flavors?

[New for Mid 2025] I can't believe I'm saying this, but two more Dr. Bombay flavors will be showing up at your local Walmart! I don't know who is buying these, but someone is!

credit: Dr. Bombay / Walmart

Sticky Caramel Apple is green apple sherbet and caramel ice cream with crunchy peanuts and salted caramel swirls.

Long Beach Fruit Cart is mango sherbet and coconut ice cream with pineapple pieces and spiced mango swirls.

Are you interested by either of these at four bucks a pint? Maybe you've seen them? I'll admit that they are certainly creative sounding, but with their track record, it's still not enough to bring me back in the Dr. Bombay fold. What do you think?

Muddy Bites : Girl Scout Coconut Caramel

[New for 2025] We were doing our cookie and cracker whole foods run when I spied these brandy new muddy bites. I was just going to grab a picture, but then I thought, nah, let's give 'em a shot even though I don't really like coconut. It's time to open up a bag of....

Ben & Jerry's Chewy Gooey Cookie Ice Cream

[New for 2022] Everyone remembers I hate coconut right? It's just not my thing, so why did I buy this? More importantly, how did I enjoy it??

Talenti Coconut Chocolate Cookie Sorbetto Layers

[New for 2020] Hey, sorry I have been quiet, been fighting a stupid faux ear infection for over a week now. I'm starting to feel a bit better and decided to grab another Unilever free sample from the chest freezer in the basement. Coconut isn't my thing, but I am still curious about...

Haagen-Dazs Coconut Caramel Chocolate Trio

[2018-2020] Of the new Haagen-Dazs products coming out in 2018, I was having trouble deciding if I was more excited for the cookie squares or the three new Trio flavors. I know some of you were a little underwhelmed by the first four Trio flavors, but they've gone ahead an added a fourth component in the form of a swirl. Let's see what it does.

Have you tried San Bernardo Ice Cream?

I've got a few reviews in the pipe but first one more spotted on shelves type post. We were at a Price Rite in the city when we found San Bernardo Ice Cream.

San Bernardo Tropical Escapes Ice Cream

You can read the whole story here, but the idea is that they came to Florida long ago to bring tropical Cuban flavors to America. There were ebbs and flows in their history and then in 2014 they re-entered the retail market. They have several different product lines but it's the Tropical Escapes line up we found for a mere $1.99 a pint. I saw Loco 4 Coco (coconut), Pina Coolada (coconut & pineapple), Guanaban-ahhh (guanabana & soursop), Guava Have It (guava), Guava Have More (guava & cheese), and Mango Fiesta (mango). They also have Cactus Pearfection (red cactus pear) and Mamey Magic (mamey) in this line up.

So have you or would you try something from San Bernardo?

Mounds Ice Cream Bar Quick Review

[Why does this still say new when it came out in 2012?] Oh man, the joys of when the work freezer gets filled up with four different frozen treats. I feel compelled to try something that I've heard good things about but have been afraid to try because of my non-love for coconut. Ok, my co-worker tried one first and said it's good but not too coconutty, so, here we go........

Talenti Coconut Chocolate Chip Gelato
and Talenti Caribbean Coconut Gelato #9

[By Nick, Exclusive is new for 2015] Seeing as I'm a perfectionist, I had planned to review Talenti's Caribbean Coconut awhile ago. After picking it up and trying it, I learned that Target was getting an exclusive Coconut Chocolate Chip flavor. After months of searching, I finally got my hands on that as well. Let's kill two birds with one stone and review both, starting with the original.

German Chocolate Cake Ice Cream Fight
  Perry's vs Target's Archer Farms

[By Nick, 2015-2016] Welcome to another installment of Friday Night Fights, a fight I'm not too excited about actually but since I had a free sample of this new Perry's flavor, I wanted something to compare it to. Now, not only do both of these German Chocolate Cake flavors have shredded coconut, neither of them have any real chunks of cake. Instead, one contains pecans while the other contains chocolate chunks. This shall be an interesting fight for sure. The rounds will be appearance of the ice cream, mix-in quality and then overall flavor to finish this fight.

(Target) Archer Farms version is chocolate cake flavored ice cream with coconut caramel swirl & chocolate flavored pieces. Perry's Escapes version is chocolate cake ice cream, coconut shreds, pecan pieces, and rich caramel sauce.

Steve's Speculoos Cookie Butter
Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert

[By Nick] Tomorrow I'll be making my way down to NYC and the Javits Center for the Summer Fancy Food Show. Be sure to follow me on twitter and instagram for posts and updates throughout the day. Seeing as Dubba already covered one of the sofi award finalist products, it's fitting that I cover another one of them.

Nick in NYC : Round 3 : Brooklyn Bell, Konery, Mikey Likes It, and OddFellows.

[By Nick] ‎Since my last NYC post, I've been down to the city on three occasions for various reasons. I also hit up 3 different shops including OddFellows on two of those occasions because I have a problem. Let's start things out with my most recent trip to Brooklyn Bell, The Local first. Oh, be sure to read the whole post, there's flavors you won't want to miss out on throughout it!

Just some of my stops along the way.

Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop Only Two Wild and Crazy Pies and Wayne's Swirled Ice Creams

[By Nick, Only in Scoop Shops] When this review goes live, I will be on my way to Vermont for a very special trip. Remember how years ago Dubba was invited for a VIP trip of Ben & Jerry's? Well, now it's my turn! Be sure to follow me on twitter and instagram to keep up with what exactly I'm up to. There will be a more complete post of the tour sometime next week. So before I leave, how about we take a look at the two latest Saturday Night Live batches available at scoop shops, shall we?

More quick stories. Remember how I did the #SundaesForShelters last year? Well I was at the Shelters of Saratoga 5th Annual Gala the other day and managed to swing by the Saratoga Springs B&J scoop shop afterwards to try out these two flavors with my date, Mary (you know, the girl who helped me conquer all those flavors at Emack and Bolio's).

Friendly's Coconut Fudge Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick, New for early 2015] With companies like Turkey Hill discontinuing flavors from their "healthier" lines, I was surprised when I saw Friendly's was coming out with a handful of new light and frozen yogurt flavors. With Dubba finding all of the new products first, I need to take what I can get it seems this year. So I jumped on this carton when I saw it at my local Shop Rite.

So Delicious Candy Corn & Pumpkin Spice Bars

[By Nick] ‎I already know what you're thinking, "Nick, why are you reviewing So Delicious limited edition bars for FALL?" Well there was a miscommunication at So Delicious that resulted in me not getting these bars until earlier this month. "Well, don't they have a Winter line you could be reviewing instead?" Yes, yes they do. However, like the fall bars, those are also exclusive to Whole Foods. It seems that Whole Foods had bought them out of their own inventory so you guys are left with a review of a couple bars you might still be able to find or will have to more than likely find next year. Hope you enjoy!

Graeters Coconut Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

[By Nick] When Graeter's originally sent me free samples of their new products, somehow a couple of older pints slip into the shipment instead of all of the new flavors. One of which was Buckeye Blitz (aka Chocolate Peanut Butter Chips [aka my favorite ice cream]) and the other was this pint of Coconut Chocolate Chip. While I had no problem with seeing the former, the latter I was a bit hesitant about with my whole feelings towards coconut. I have to say I've been liking it more and more as of late so if anyone can make a great coconut flavor, I'm sure Graeter's can pull it off.

Van Leeuwen Vegan Sicilian Pistachio
 A Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

[By Nick] If you can recall, I was able to take home some pints with me from my Whole Foods tour. Well of course I had to pick up a couple of local brands that I honestly never heard of. The first of the two is Van Leeuwen who is based out of Brooklyn. There are a bunch of reasons why I picked this pint up. First, it was highly recommended by my tour guide. Second, the price tag is steep at almost $10 a pint which is Jeni's territory (wait, am I foreshadowing a future review?). Third, but probably the main reason, this is the first frozen dessert I've seen use cashew milk as their dairy substitute. Sure it's mixed with coconut milk, but still, I was very intrigued by this.

FoMu Premium Alternative Ice Cream

I'll admit it, it's inevitable that it gets harder and harder for me to get excited about just any old ice cream, but when someone knows what I'm like and still takes the risk of me trying a product that by all accounts I shouldn't like, well, that gets the old reviewing juices flowing.

I saw FoMu at Wholes Foods at $6 a pint and I just couldn't bring myself to spend that on a coconut ice cream, even if it is local and high end.... who knew that a few months later FoMu would contact me and offer to send me samples. We talked about my history and they did their best to pick four pints that had the best chance of winning me over.

Blue Bunny Coco Mango Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for 2014, renamed Coco Mango in 2016] Ahhh, mango and coconut. Those are two words that could make a grown man... I mean Dubba... tremble with fear. It's no wonder why I was sent the free sample of this is new flavor from Blue Bunny. I love mango and have had great success with it on the blog. As for coconut, we're still in a like-hate relationship. Thankfully Wells sent me this flavor in pint form. After my disaster with Turkey Hill's Coconut Cream Pie, I'm not sure I'd know who to pawn this one off on if the same result was to happen.

Turkey Hill Coconut Cream Pie Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for 2014] It’s been awhile since a store around me has carried a new limited edition Turkey Hill flavor. When I saw the containers of Coconut Cream Pie starring back at me in the freezer isle, I was torn. On one hand, I’m still intimidated by coconut flavors. On the other, I want to beat Dubba in our competition to see who can try more Turkey Hill flavors this year.

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream
Coconut Almond Bliss and Butter Pecan

[By Nick] With all of the free Chocolate Shoppe base flavor samples out of the way, it’s time to take a look at couple of mix-in included flavors, specifically nut mix-ins. One of which I know I’ll enjoy, Butter Pecan, and one I’m not so sure about, Coconut Almond Bliss. Since I’m a believer in saving what might be the best for last, let’s start with the latter.
