[By Nick, New for Early 2016] First off, I need to thank my awesome co-workers for making this review possible. See, Dubba and I have known about the names of a couple of new Ben & Jerry's flavors since the beginning of the year and have been on the look out ever since. I was talking with my co-workers on Monday about my extensive hunt to find some of these new 2016 products with no luck. Come the next morning, they bring in a pint off Cake My Day for me that they had found hidden at a Shop-Rite near them. They obviously made my day for sure. 2017 Update: Artisanal Sorbets has become Charlie's Sorbet Co. New packaging should be out soon. It looks like Chocolate has become Midnight Chocolate and Passion Fruit is now Passion Fruit Lovin'. There is also a Double Coconut flavor.


Like so many other purveyors of small batch frozen delights, Artisanal Sorbets is based out of New York City.  Their tag is "all natural, gluten free, dairy free, vegan". Since I'm rarely in NYC, the owner was nice enough to send over a pair of free samples to try.

[New for 2015] Back at the end of November, I got an email from Brett, one of the people behind Snospice. I checked out his Snospice kickstarter but I admit that I was skeptical, but there's also a reason I'm not a fixer, not an innovator. Well, production began and Brett wrote to me again. I warned him I can be a little cranky, but he still wanted me to give Snospice a shot. I was still skeptical, but he said something that really got my attention. Basically he said it doesn't matter if you put this on budget ice cream or super premium ice cream, you use what you like and that my friends is a great point.

Seriously, there haven't been many new products to speak of and we covered the majority of new 2015 products in the first half of the year. It made it seem like ages before I found something new or interesting. The lady and I found our way over to Friendly's last night and I noticed a few new Valentine's themed products. Oreo Churros & The Nosh Show - Episode 70

Update! Boardwalk Frozen Treats, the folks behind Baskin Robbins pints, say the product line is definitely not dead and that we'll actually see 4 new flavors in 2016. My apologies for my incorrect assumptions about this product line going away. I have edited the review, but tried to leave it as much intact as possible as most of my thoughts still hold true.

[New for 2014] So this next review will be our last latest review of the Baskin-Robbins at home products. Why you ask? Because I'm pretty sure this line up is dead (but it's not!). Market Basket had all their pints discontinued down to 99 cents and I just ran through all of Stop&Shop's selection and all the pints are expiring within the next 3-6-9 months when in general many fresh pints expire after 18 months on the shelf (though this does vary by brand). A cancellation really shouldn't surprise us wouldn't have surprised me. Baskin-Robbins makes a fine in store product, but when you throw your name on a lower end product, what do you really expect to happen? Sure you might grab a few sentimental buyers, but all the crazy flavors they are known for are no where to be found. Instead we got budget versions of 15 of their more basic flavors. What a waste, but at least it will clear room for some other company to expand.

PSA - Friendly's Vanilla Bean "Ice Cream"

Dear Friendlys,
    As a long time supporter of Friendly's, I have to ask, what have you done to your freezer aisle ice cream? This doesn't even seem like ice cream anymore. The container says "premium ice cream", but like Breyers (and Edy's for a time), you are moving towards the disgrace that is known as frozen dairy dessert. Why would you do this? I have many fond memories of your awesomeness from my childhood, yet here I am tonight, barely able to choke this mess down.

New Ice Cream and Treats for 2016

I had saved something to review for today, but as I was taking pictures, I realized it was best buy 3/27/2015. Yeah, I always say time flies but man, that's just sad. Anyway, in it's place, let's see if we can't do a little 2016 prep.  [Note: all official photos courtesy of their respective company]

Yuengling's was the first to announce new stuff. March will be the debut for Butter Pecan, Cherry Vanilla Chunk, Cookies & Cream, and.... Cinnamon Churro (review here). Sorry, I had to save churro for last. It's got a great idea in baked churro pieces and cinnamon swirled in vanilla ice cream which I'm hoping means it will taste like a cinnamon base.

Turkey Hill emailed out their new stuff today though their website isn't updated just, but they are keeping the idea of Red Velvet Cake alive (review here) with an April-June flavor and then giving us one of my favorite summer treats, a S'mores flavor for July-September (as well as an Espresso flavor).

We know of new Haagen-Dazs stuff labeled Destination Series which are "inspired by some of the world's most popular travel destinations". This includes at least seven flavors:

It's kind of funny how Mango seems to have picked up a bit of steam last year and now in to 2016.

We're still waiting (announced 2/3/16) for the nationwide distribution of the new (vegan) non-dairy Ben & Jerry's "ice cream" made with almond milk. Actually, I forgot about the Blue Bunny almond milk frozen dessert as well. They'll come in vanilla, chocolate, mocha fudge, and mint chocolate chip. >>> WAIT! It's now Oct 2016. I never saw these hit shelves and they are off the blue bunny website. That is... surprising (for the most part anyway).

Update #1: Ben & Jerry's "Cake My Day" is the fun, new, limited batch flavor containing vanilla cake batter ice cream with vanilla cake pieces, buttercream frosting and raspberry swirls. "Peanut Butter & Cookies" is the new, great looking Walmart Exclusive flavor with sweet cream ice cream with chocolate sandwich cookies and a crunchy peanut butter swirl >>> PB&Cookies has been replaced with the excellent Pecan Sticky Buns ice cream. In May, Empower Mint came out.

I've seen a few cores disappear from stores and now we know why. Ben & Jerry's introduces Brownie Batter Core, Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Core, and Coconuts for Caramel Core!

Update #2: Turkey Hill just updated their website with four new all natural flavors (reviews here) and 5 new "gelato swirls". I didn't get my wished for all natural cookies & cream (yet!), but I like the expansion and dedication. My first experience with it was kind of meh. Second experience also not so hot.

Update #3: The fine folks of Perry's Ice Cream have already sent over samples of their three new 2016 flavors: One Buffalo, Bourbon Caramel Pecan, and Chocolate Hazelnut. See, they've ditched the "escapes" branding for their pints and quarts and now all products will feature their classic black styling. Flavors making the branding transition include Toffee Coffee, Grasshopper Pie, and Sponge Candy.

I'll admit, I'm a little surprised to see Dove put out something new. It's pretty slick of them to mix their calorie rich shell with a low/no fat sorbet middle. I would have picked them up, but I wasn't in the mood to dump five bucks on a potentially cross contaminated product.

We haven't reviewed a weight watchers product since July 2014 and to be honest, I don't know if that will change anytime soon. The only reason I really tried them before was because Wells would send over free samples of them. Even on sale for four bucks, I wasn't tempted to try this box of 12 when deep down I only need one (or two) to sample.

Update #4: The Impulsive Buy readers have spied a Nestle Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cup frozen bar (review here) to compete with the Reese's version as well as chocolate covered Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. SC has three varieties in the form of Vanilla Bean Dream, Ultimate Chocolate, and Creamy Caramel. I reviewed the Ultimate Chocolate here but haven't tried the others as I'm not sure if the included sorbitol messed with me a bit.

Update #6: Not one but two new double shelled Magnum bars this year. I've now spied both the Double Raspberry and Double Chocolate Vanilla at multiple locations.

Update #7: I spied a few Breyers Gelato flavors getting discontinued at Stop & Shop which is often a sign of making room for new flavors. Well, so far I have spied chocolate hazelnut gelato (Nick was unamused by it), peanut butter chocolate gelato and salted caramel truffle gelato.  There will also be a chocolate fudge truffle flavor. I've also come across new flavors in the form of Ice Cream Cake Ice Cream (review here), Coconut Fudge Frozen Dairy Dessert, and Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream. That's right, two of those three are labeled "ice cream"!
