Weight Watchers
Salted Caramel Ice Cream Candy Bars

[By Nick, New for 2014] The Sweet Freedom ice cream sandwiches weren't the only "healthy" novelty that Wells sent me.

They also included a box of the new Weight Watchers Salted Caramel ice cream candy bars. I'm basically over salted caramel so let's get right into these.

Weight Watchers Ice Cream Cups
Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Mint Chocolate Chip

["New" for 2014] Alright, Weight Watchers has two "new" ice cream cups for us this year, though new refers to the serving itself rather than a new flavor or product type. See, while I tried their 4 PointsPlus chocolate brownie ice cream cup three years ago, these new servings are just 3 PointsPlus but basically that just means that they've shrunk the cups from about 100g down to 67g (I don't know if they've done any additional food science to these). Disclaimer: Weight Watchers isn't really my thing, but Wells offered up the free samples, so here goes nothing.

Weight Watchers Greek Frozen Yogurt

[2014-2015] Weight watchers has a few new 3 PointsPlus frozen treat cups for us this year including 2 greek frozen yogurts. Now greek yogurt really isn't my thing, but hey, if Wells wants me to try them for free, who am I to say no?

Weight Watchers Greek Frozen Yogurt Bars
Peach Swirl and Blueberry Swirl

[New for 2013, discontinued] So Weight Watchers has really bulked up their frozen lineup this year. "Today" (also known as April) we're going to pull out the two new greek frozen yogurt bars from our free samples and see how they stack up.

Weight Watchers Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwiches

[New for 2013] Part of the free shipment from weight watchers included the very intriguing Red Velvet ice cream sandwiches. I mean, come on, production red velvet products are rare and now to find it in a sandwich? It's the kind of product that could catch anyone's eye (well, if they haven't gotten stuck in the non-lowfat section anyway).

So here they are, a box of 8 "snack size" red velvet ice cream sandwiches clocking in at just 100 calories a piece. The description reads "low fat cream cheese frosting flavored ice cream with a red velvet chocolate swirl between two red velvet chocolate wafers". Cream cheese frosting flavored? I'm guessing that it'll either be super strong or non-existent.

New Weight Watchers Chocolate Smoothie Frozen Yogurt Bars Review

[New for 2013] Ok, I need chocolate, so let's dig into our stash of free weight watchers products again.

These are the Chocolate Smoothie Frozen Yogurt bars and they are the new variation of the Strawberry Smoothie bars that you've already seen on store shelves. 12 bars in a box with 2 to a serving.

Weight Watchers Giant Latte Ice Cream Bar half-review

[Updated for 2013] Look, I don't like coffee flavored anything, never had, never will. I use to complain to my mom when Arby's would mess up and give me a mocha shake. It's just not for me... but Weight Watchers was nice enough to include these in their free sampler pack, so let's take a quick look at them.

So we've got a box of 6 Giant Latte ice cream bars clocking in at a respectable 4 oz a piece. Notice the coffee beans holding up the bar. They are described as low fat coffee flavored ice cream and now have a new creamier texture with the same great taste. I never had the old ones, so I can't really tell you how much they've changed.

New Weight Watchers Cookies & Cream Ice Cream bar

[New for 2013] Weight Watchers contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if it would be ok to send over some free samples, and not just any samples, but all six of their new products. Ofcourse I happily accepted because like I've always said, you can't eat the premium stuff all the time. You should never be afraid to mix things up because often the nutritional info of these lighter snacks easily offsets any non-premium features they might have.

These are Weight Watchers new Cookies & Cream Ice Cream bars. Nick is pretty much always a fan of these WW bars, so I think it's more than high time that I tried some for myself.

Weight Watchers Divine Triple Chocolate Ice Cream Bar Review

[By Nick, new for 2012] Next up in my conquest to try all of the Weight Watcher’s ice cream products is one of their latest additions, the Divine Triple Chocolate ice cream bar. I’ve already review all of the other varieties of partially dipped bars so it’s the same make up as those bars. Weight Watcher’s takes low fat chocolate ice cream, swirl in some chocolate fudge and then dips the bar in milk chocolate. I normally stay away from things with so much chocolate just because it tends to get overbearing.

Well, guess what? I'm already sick of the following treat.

Weight Watchers Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Ice Cream Bar Review

[By Nick] There seems to be an endless variety of weight watchers ice cream products. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it though. Everyone loves ice cream yet nobody wants to gain weight. I’m fine with it because I love having a huge selection of treats to choose from. This leads to today’s product..

Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Bar Review

[By Nick] On my quest to add variety without adding on pounds, I’m led to try out the Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Bar from Weight Watchers. I think I just burned some extra calories typing out the name of this product alone. Now I’m a big fan of raspberries and you already know my feelings about cheesecake, so when I saw these bars I knew I had to give them a try.

Weight Watchers describes them as “low fat cheesecake ice cream with a raspberry swirl dipped in a dark chocolate flavored coating”. Low fat cheesecake has to be one of the best oxymorons I’ve seen in a while. It seems as though they’re using the same dark chocolate shell that covers the Dulce de Leche bars as well.

Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Dulce de Leche
A Low Fat Ice Cream Bar Review

[By Nick] I don't know about you guys but I crave ice cream on a daily basis. Now I know it wouldn't be too good for me if I eat the premium stuff every day. To satisfy these craving without expanding my waistline, I've tried many different frozen novelties. Sure some novelties are just as bad for me but there are certain brands marketed towards the "health conscious". This leads me into reviewing...

Weight Watchers Smart Ones
Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae
A low fat ice cream treat review

Did you know that Weight Watchers low fat sundaes now come in four packs? I didn't, but I do now. It's been awhile since I tried the chocolate chip cookie dough sundae and the peanut butter cup sundae at the end of 2010, so I was kind of glad to see the untested Chocolate Fudge Brownie Sundae 4 pack below (hmmm, it now clocks in at 4 PointsPlus value as opposed to the old 3 Points value of the other two... uggg, and now there's a PointsPlus 2012)

nothing too crazy, just a little 140 calorie pyramid

Weight Watchers Chocolate Fudge Brownie
Premium Ice Cream Cup

Wait, whoa, did I just write "premium" ice cream cup? Funny, since premium usually implies high fat content. Maybe I should start at the beginning.

I ran into Walmart to get just a couple of things but as I went through the store I really started to want chocolate ice cream. The diet is still going well after three weeks, I'm half way through my goal (I'm down to +6) so I'm really trying to run with the whole calorie counting thing. So rather than pick the 250-300+ calorie treats, I spied some weight watchers in it's new white and light blue packaging.

Nothing fancy, but it does look modern. I check the back and it's a mere 150 calories with only 15 from fat. Sweet, sounds like no guilt to me. Offhand that picture makes me expect something like Edy's Double Fudge Brownie Fun Flavor, so let's find out.

Weight Watchers Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae

I wasn't super excited by the following treat, though that may have had something to do with the fact that it suffered some fairly serious freezer burn (of the two treats in the box, one had a lot of icing on it)

The new Peanut Butter Cup Sundae (review) was decent enough to make me try the older Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae.Let's see what 3 weight watchers points buys me.

New! Weight Watchers Peanut Butter Cup Sundae

Ok, I need to get a review up before everyone thinks I've left the reservation...   not to say my mind hasn't left. In fact, if you see my mind hanging out at a bus stop, just go ahead and send him home, thanks!

I've mentioned that I'm pretty backlogged with a bunch of random posts right now. I'm just not sure where to head at this moment. My crazy side says aim for the high fat stuff. My spare tire says I need to start eating "smarter". My lazy side says let's have a bowl of cereal and call it a night.

Oh, and my brain says "why don't you try finding something different?" So, I went to the other side of the freezer aisle and started looking for a frozen dessert but I accidentally stumbled upon an ice cream treat.

This is the NEW! WeightWatchers Smart Ones Peanut Butter Cup "signature" Sundae. It's low-fat vanilla ice cream over a chocolate cookie crust, topped with fudge sauce and mini peanut butter cups. (2 per box) Looks tasty enough, but I'm skeptical of anything that claims to watch weight yet still contain peanut butter.

Weight Watchers Ice Cream Sandwiches

So the other day I was venting a bit about how way too often things posing as "snacks" even though they have high saturated fat content. Sure this is an ice cream blog and I'm probably being too picky, but I'm tired and I'm cranky, and only some awesome treats can bring me back from the brink of going just a little too crazy.

Friday Night Fight
Snickers Ice Cream Bar vs
Weight Watchers Ice Cream Bar

Alright fight fans, boy do we have a doozy for you this week! The heavyweight Snickers ice cream bar takes on a featherweight challenger. Sure, you may not have faith in Weight Watchers, but after a few sparring matches earlier in the week, I knew this one would be a surprisingly worthy match up.

Ok, let's get it on!

In the brown corner, we have the oversized Snickers Ice Cream Bar, the kind you might find in a convenience store. While a regular ic bar clocks in around 50g, this heavyweight tries to really satisfy with a might 83 gram serving. I have been a fan of these since high school. It's just so hard to beat "creamy ice cream topped with chewy caramel and fresh roasted peanuts and then covered in rich delicious chocolate" (paraphased). Cost: $1.21.

In the white corner, we have a treat that I've walked by many times and finally decided to pick up. I don't know why I waited so long. It looks like a snickers (well, the box does) and it sounds like one too - "Peanut Butter low fat ice cream topped with caramel and peanuts covered in milk chocolate flavored coating". Well, it sure sounds like the low fat version anyway. WW only weights 44g, so that's just over half of what the Snickers weighs. A box of 6 costs $3.98, but since 2 of these equals 1 snickers, we're talking $1.36 for an equivalent serving.

Treat of the Week: Weight Watchers GIANT Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream Sundae Cone

Wow, that sure is a long name. I didn't pick these up because I'm on a diet or anything, though their low cal nature did justify the purchase. Well, that and they we're on sale, $4.49 for 4 to be precise. No no, we got these because my daughter noticed the little yellow on sale tag below a box with chocolate ice cream cones in it. She knows that her chances of getting something go way up when it's on sale.

With any low cal treat, we should all know by now to set the bar real low. WAY WAY low. Assume nothing, it's safer that way. At only 140 calories (35 from fat), you know this isn't really ice cream. Sure, they call it ice cream, and you can have deja vu while typing this, but we know it's really just another frozen dairy dessert called "low fat ice cream".

My first complaint? I couldn't get the wrapper off. It pulled apart easy enough at the top, but down low it got stuck. I did manage to free the treat without crushing the cone, but then I saw that the little fudge drops on top had melted off the ice cream and onto the lid. Not a big deal...well, I mean, it does take away a little from those first couple of bites because you should be enjoying fake ice cream and fudge, not just fake ice cream. The ice cream itself isn't that bad. It's not really good, but it could be worse.

I cruised through the top part because I knew the saving grace of this treat would be the cone. Unfortunately, my first cone bite was horribly chewy, but I pressed on. For whatever reason, about 15% of the cone was very chewy while the rest was enjoyably crunchy. A nice cone can always make you forgot about what's inside.

We actually saw a box of the "old style", but I went with the "Great New Taste"...actually, that thought frightens me a little. What did this taste like before?? If I made this treat, I'd make the crunchy cone go all the way up, and then I would eat them all the time and tell myself it's ok because they're healthy. Hey, gotta look at the bright side of things. The cone is the best part, so run with it.

On Second Scoop: I had my second cone last night and I am already bored with these. The wrapper didn't get stuck, and the cone was probably 90% crunchy, but the chocolate is just too low cal to offer and real enjoyment I guess.
