Brown Cow Yogurt

So how many of you have noticed that the terribly named "Oh My Yog!" isn't on store shelves anymore? I did because it was pretty much my favorite yogurt of all time (except maybe Columbo's Smurf yogurt). I have no interest in the greek or tangy yogurts out there, though I will eat them on occasion (I'm looking at you Chobani Flipz). I want sweet yogurt and oh is it hard to come by nowadays. The good news is that while Stonyfield may have cancelled Oh My Yog!, they did put something else in it's place.

Dannon OIKOS Cookies & Cream Greek Frozen Yogurt

[2015-2016] Alright, our next review subject has been sitting in the freezer for... iunno, 4 months maybe? I bought it because I was having trouble getting in the mood for his minty cousin (which has been sitting in the freezer for like 7 months now). Well, I went downstairs to grab some Ben & Jerry's but instead I grabbed.....

Dannon OIKOS Strawberry Greek Frozen Yogurt

[2014-2016] "Dubba, haven't you already tried some OIKOS greek frozen yogurt before?". You are correct, but that was from Dannon's parent company, Stonyfield, so the other OIKOS I tried was actually organic. Basically Dannon yogurt is their outlet for budget friendly, non-organic yogurt, so it's not really a stretch for them to also put this out. They've already got the tech, now they can just use more cost-effective ingredients.

Dannon OIKOS Greek Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick, 2014-2016]
If you thought with all these companies producing gelato that the Greek yogurt fad would be over, you'd be sadly mistaken. Not only will we be seeing a Greek version of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia but Dannon has also decided to produce their own pints under the Oikos line. First, don't ask me why there aren't any commercials of John Stamos promoting these (Update: there are now!). Second, yes there already is an Oikos line of frozen Greek yogurt made by their sister brand Stonyfield. The major difference here is that those are organic and fat free, while these are not. Also, the flavors Dannon offers are more enticing. Since I didn't want to go the basic route (like Strawberry), I grabbed their Key Lime and Black Cherry flavors. Both of these flavors don't get much love in the ice cream isle so I'm happy Dannon is showing them some respect.

Stonyfield Minty Chocolate Chip Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick] Today we discover the product that opened my eyes to the full potential that mint and chocolate could have together.

Stonyfield Creme Caramel Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick] It looks like it’s about time to continue our trip to Stonyfield Farms. We all know I’m a fan of caramel so it was only a matter of time before I picked up their Crème Caramel froyo. I mean, come on, it's caramel frozen yogurt with a caramel swirl. Caramel on caramel action is always a good thing in my book. Also, unlike its vanilla and java siblings this one is of the low fat nature instead of being nonfat.

The packaging is pretty much the same with this one as it was with the vanilla. The only difference is that now the cow’s wearing a scarf. I don’t know why but I can’t stop smiling when I look at that cow. There’s just something about a cow in human clothing that just makes you happy inside. I also like the flowing caramel river going on at this farm. Hopefully it’ll be like that inside the pint as well. Gary is back on the pint and is saying that this is the perfect dessert for entertaining. I’m not one for being a dinner host so this one will have to be entertaining my taste buds instead. Okay let’s end this randomness and get to the product.

Stonyfield Gotta Have Java Nonfat Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick, Discontinued] Awhile back, one of our readers mentioned that in their opinion, Stonyfield made the greatest coffee frozen yogurt. Well to be honest, I had tried their Gotta Have Java flavor a long time ago but couldn’t remember being as blown away as they were. So with that comment, I thought it was about time I revisited that flavor and gave it a proper review. Hopefully my memory is fuzzy and it truly is as good as they say it is.

The description is pretty straightforward and it looks like we’re going back into their non-fat line. Gary once again chimes in saying “If you crave a real coffee indulgence, this is nirvana. My wife Meg grew up drinking robust coffee in a second-generation French household, and this stuff aces even her test. We've combined superb organic coffee flavor with creamy organic nonfat frozen yogurt. I give you divine bliss, java lover. –Gary” Well I guess if his wife approves it must be good right? I don’t really think of the French when I think of coffee appreciation but I’ll take Gary’s word on this one. One thing to note, the cow is now wearing something that resembles an ascot. Yeah, I just went all Scooby-Doo on you guys.

Stonyfield Gotta Have Vanilla Frozen Yogurt Review

[By Nick] I don’t know what has been up with me as of late. I never usually buy just plain vanilla ice cream but after my pleasant experience with Clemmy’s and my life-altering experience with Talenti, I’ve been on a vanilla kick. This time though, I’m going to be looking at a vanilla frozen yogurt since it was suggested I give it a try. Stonyfield has been a player in the freezer albeit it a small one but they do make a good frozen yogurt. Their minty chocolate chip was actually the flavor that got me into trying more mint flavored desserts (possible review in the future?) So with my willingness to fulfill most reasonable requests, I picked up a pint of Stonyfield Gotta Have Vanilla on my last grocery trip.

I really like the background image on this pint. It gives you a feeling of the farm in which the milk was produced to create this treat. There’s the token vanilla flower on the label which is always a pleasing sight. Oh wait I just noticed the cow under the Stonyfield has a vanilla flower behind its ear. That designer definitely earns some points in my book.

Oikos Blueberry Greek Frozen Yogurt Review

Stonyfield Honey OIKOS
Organic Nonfat Greek Frozen Yogurt Review

[Discontinued] Oh, being a blogger is so tough some days... hehehe, just kidding, but there are times when I try a smidge too hard, as is the case with Oikos.

Wait, first, let me use my mastery of the obvious to state that 2012 will be the year of greek frozen yogurt. I mean, come on, greek yogurt is steadily gaining market share, in part due to the protein content, so there's no reason greek frozen yogurt won't take the same trend now that Ciao Bella is jumping in the ring. Heck, even Hannaford's has a housebrand of greek froyo (review will be up later this week).

Ok, I'm all over the place here, so let's introduce Oikos. Stonyfield is pretty proud of Oikos as it is the only "nationally available" organic greek yogurt. Now Stonyfield doesn't mess around a ton with ice cream and froyo, but you can find them in some stores. Seeing a chance to get ahead of everyone else, frozen Oikos came out at the end of the 2011 summer.

Here it is, Stonyfield OIKOS organic nonfat greek frozen yogurt, the honey variety. Some on you might be thinking "wow, a honey flavor, that's so unique!". Others might be going "Rodzilla loves the blueberry, why not start there?". Well, both of those statements played into it. I knew it should be good and it's a fairly new product, so I thought I would spice things up a little. I mean, come on, I've had vanilla honey granola froyo from Haagen-DazTurkey Hill, and Pierre's Yovation (and that's in order of decreasing honey flavor), so why not try this one.

Stonyfield Farms Cookies & Cream Frozen Yogurt

[Discontinued] funny, when a product excites me, I want to write forever. When a product bores me, well, not so much... in fact, I tend to wander off and go watch TV. However, I just got through watching the craziness that is "Salt", so let me pin down a few thoughts on Stonyfield Farms frozen yogurt.

Let me start by saying this is the second pint of their froyo that I have purchased. Unfortunately, pint #1 was long forgotten in the deep freezer and has long since expired. I'm not even sure what flavor I bought, maybe vanilla. Sure, my wife eats their regular yogurt all the time, and we've had plenty of their organic milk, but for whatever reason... well, probably price... I never tried their froyo. Well, market basket has a pint for a mere $2.69 a container, so I think it's high time we get this stuff on the blog. Check out the stonyfield website if you are unfamiliar with their organic products.

As you can see, I started off with one of three low fat varieties they currently have. Cookies 'n Cream is creamy vanilla low fat frozen yogurt with chocolate wafers. The other low fat flavors are minty chocolate chip and creme caramel.
