Yuengling's Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

[New for 2015] So we've gotten a few requests to pick up one of the new Yuengling Ice Creams, let's see if I can finally find some of their new stuff in my area. Now there are four new flavors to search for: Sea Salt Caramel Swirl (which features the caramel ice cream from their Black & Tan flavor), Orange Cream, Caramel Popcorn and...

Yuengling's Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

Lighter than expected, and maybe one cup peaked through. Hmmm, let's try the peanut side first. Nice, no complaints off the bat. Fairly mild, but I'm hoping that's where the swirl comes in to take things up a notch. There's just a thin swirl here at the top so let's hope that it gets thicker down below.

Oh, found a peanut butter cup, let's just extract it.... doh, it's only half a cup. Let's dig in to the chocolate side then... ahhh, there are the cups! and more swirl! It's a solid swirl, very solid actually as you really have to push the spoon in to it to break it. So that translates to a very dry swirl which isn't really my favorite thing. I'd rather have a bit of give and some more sweetness to it.

It kind of looks like it's smiley at me with it's peanut butter cup eyes.

Back to the cups. There is definitely some peanut butter flavor inside of them and they are pretty much the same size cups that we've seen in other brands.

Ok, I'm not in love with the chocolate side, but that's personal preference. The flavor profile is just a bit... not my style, it's hard to describe. Let's try mixing the two bases a bit more. I think I'm having that thing again where their chocolate base cancels out the other base (like in their black & tan flavor). It's kind of frustrating as I want more flavor, not less, when I mix the two.

On Second Scoop: Alright, I'm back and my ice cream cup is empty. Did I just enjoy what I ate? For the most part, yes. Did I love it? no. It's tough because we've been exposed to this combination so many times that we all have our favorite take on it. It could use more cups, it could use more swirl, it could use a sweeter swirl, it could use a different chocolate, it could have a better balance. That said, it's not bad, it's just too subtle and a bit too dry for my liking.

Verdict?  decent, but leaning towards dull
Buy Again?  meh

  1. The Caramel Popcorn is amazing! At first I thought it would be an odd combination, but I could tell a distinct popcorn taste the first bite.

  2. Yeah I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of ice cream with two bases. If they're not mixed together I just eat each side separately but otherwise it usually just ends up a sugary/fatty blegh.

    Side note: If B&J kept em separate like their core flavors, Half Baked, Peanut Butter Half Baked and The Tonight Dough would probably go from "avoid" to three of my top flavors

  3. @aol: Agreed, it's too risky, especially in pints.

    @anon: it will be mine!
