Cedar Crest Caramel Collision Ice Cream

[By Nick] Last up from the trio of Cedar Crest pints I ordered from Ice Cream Source is Cedar Crest Caramel Collision ice cream.

This one is made up of caramel ice cream, a caramel swirl and chocolate covered caramel cups. I’m not going to lie, after my lackluster experience with the caramel in their Turtle Sundae, I was a bit hesitant in trying this one. I couldn’t taste the caramel at all in that flavor and every component of this one involves caramel.

Cedar Crest Turtle Sundae Ice Cream Review

[By Nick] So in my last Cedar Crest Dairy review I mentioned I order three pints from Ice Cream Source. Well when I received those pints, one of them seemed out of place. While Elephant Tracks and a flavor to be reviewed at a later date (getting the suspense building ;]) both sported their new packaging, their Turtle Sundae was still in their old packaging.

At first I thought I got sent the wrong product but once I got a closer look, I saw that it was in fact one of the Cedar Crest flavors. Well let’s just say I can see why they decided to rebrand their ice cream. While the turtle is adorable, the whole pint design is unappealing to me. The colors aren’t the most appetizing and I never liked representing the ingredients involved in cartoon form on the package. I like how the new packaging shows a scoop of the ice cream and the color scheme is far superior. I’m glad Cedar Crest decided to make the change because if I was to see these in the ice cream isle, I more than likely would have passed them up. Okay, enough with the packaging let’s talk about the ice cream.

Cedar Crest Turtle Sundae is described as “pecans blended in vanilla ice cream swirled with chocolate and caramel fudge” this is definitely a flavor that was calling my name. You guys know my love for caramel and pecans so adding chocolate only can make things better right? Wait, the lid says it’s “swirled with chocolate and caramel sauce”. I’m so confused right now; I’m just going to go with fudge because, well, I have no real reason.

Cedar Crest Elephant Tracks Ice Cream Review

[By Nick] Back when I made my first order from ice cream source last year, I put two pints of Cedar Crest on my list. When my shipment arrived I was dismayed they weren’t in the box. After some interaction with their customer service team, I was told that they were all out of the missing items and that they would refund my money. Well that was nice and all but I was pretty disappointed that I wasn’t able to try those flavors. Well, in making my second order, I made sure to include those two pints as well as another to ensure that I would at least get one variety to try this time. This time all three of them came so let’s delve into one of those pint now shall we?

They were all equally tantalizing but I decided to try out Cedar Crest Elephant Tracks first just because when do you ever see a product with the name Elephant in it? Elephant Tracks consists of pieces of peanut butter cups and chocolate fudge swirled inside chocolate ice cream. If that doesn’t sound good to you then you need to get your taste buds checked.

Cedar Crest Blue Moon Ice Cream Sandwich Review

[By Nick] Blue Moon is definitely the “mystery” flavor of the ice cream world. Hell, there’s even a Wikipedia page for it. It seems as if everyone believes they know what it truly is, yet the discrepancy between flavors is astounding. I mean if one person thinks it tastes like Fruit Loops while another is definite it tastes like soda, there has to be something up with this flavor. Being that this had me very intrigued, I added a couple of Cedar Crest Blue Moon Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches to my Ice Cream Source order.

The description I got from the website is extremely vague. Simply put its blue moon ice cream in between two cookies. Now I have no idea what flavor the cookies are or if they’re more wafer like than cookie. The packaging it just a blank white wrapper, which is just disappointing for something that doesn’t come in its own box. Okay time to stop delaying, here goes nothing.

AICC-2: Cedar Crest French Vanilla Ice Cream

Nothing like a rainy day to make you crave the simple things in life ...like Vanilla. It feels like forever since I've had plain vanilla. no mixins, no nothing. Just vanilla. Wait, is "French" vanilla still considered plain?yeah sure, why not?

And here's what I tried today: Cedar Crest French Vanilla Ice Cream " fresh from Wisconsin ". It's pretty good. It's quite smooth and vaguely reminds me of a nice vanilla pudding. I don't need to bite into it like I did with the Schoep's the other day.

Ok, I'll write more later.....

On Second Scoop: It's vanilla, I don't know what else to say. It's fairly well made, it's a respectable vanilla flavor, but, well, it's vanilla. I don't know how many different ways to describe it.

AICC-1: Cedar Crest Neopolitan Ice Cream

It really is fun pulling into the driveway and seeing the Ice Cream Club box sitting in the driveway. Four tasty secrets just waiting to be discovered! Oh boy!

I let my daughter pick what we were going to try. Though this container looks huge, it's only 1 pint ...and she thought by picking it I would let her have the whole thing.Well, we each had one serving (1/2 cup, or a 1/4 of the container).

As a Neapolitan, this isn't anything groundbreaking, but it is a quality ice cream. We quickly ate our servings and contemplated finishing off this cute little box. It's nice, I like it, but I would like to try some of their more unique offerings.

Cedar Crest Rootbeer Twister Review

Ok, I'll admit it, I was a little afraid of the third contestant in the ice cream of the month club after my experience with Breyer's Root Beer Float. What you see before you is Root Beer Twister from Wisconsin's Cedar Crest Ice Cream. It's half root beer sherbet and half vanilla ice cream.

The good news is that this is much more enjoyable than the Breyers, well, to me any way. My first couple of bites were from the Root beer sherbet. It's definitely root beer, but it's more mellow than the Breyers. What I mean is that a straight shot of this sherbet is more enjoyable than the RB sherbet/vanilla mix in the Breyers. I also appreciate the fact that it's "twisted" and not layered like the Breyers. If you needed a break in the Breyers, you just couldn't do it, you always scooped both flavors. Not so here. If I want to cleanse my palate, I can take a couple of scoops of just vanilla, and it's a nice vanilla too. Next, I can take a bite of 2 parts vanilla to 1 part root beer, or 3:1, 4:1, 1:1, it's up to me and I really appreciate having that choice. 

Sure the Breyers is cool looking, and great if you love root beer floats, but for those of us who don't want our taste buds smacked down with soda buzz, this is a much more pleasant alternative.

Actually, now that I think about it, I just don't like swirled sherbet, I much prefer my flavors separated. I'm a big boy now, I don't need help eating my ice cream... just kidding, swirling has it's limited place. Hmmm, swirling might be the next poll question. Anyway, so this is definitely better than Breyers, but I'm guessing I'll polish off the vanilla portion long before the root beer is gone.
