[Relaunched in 2022] What have we seen in the ice cream aisle year after year for too many years? Packages either get smaller, or quality goes down. Well, Hood is going to try to do something different. Yes, their New England Creamery lineup is shrinking from 1.5 Qts to a single lone quart size BUT the quality is going up! How's that for unexpected? Now Hood has always been a budget brand in my mind, but they have some fierce loyalty here in New England plus their NEC lineup has always had limited edition moments of fun (see some reviews here)

Hood Chocolate Churro Ice Cream

[New for 2018] For the most part, most of 2018 ice cream lineup has come out by now and all that's left is waiting for this or that to finally hit your local store shelf. While I keep an eye out on sales of what I haven't covered yet, there's still an opportunity to grab the occasional limited edition flavor here and there. I feel like new limited stuff doesn't quite hit us as much as it used to, but then good ol' budget friendly Hood throws us a flavor from way out in left field.

[New for 2018] Hood is pretty good about spitting out a limited edition flavor right at the beginning of the year and 2018 is no exception. Based on the name and general setup, I'd say this is at least a vague shot at Friendly's Purple Potamus ice cream.

Hood Old Orchard Beach Whoopie Pie Ice Cream

[By Nick] I don't believe we've ever talked about my feelings toward whoopie pies before on the site. To be blunt, I love them. I mean heck, Turkey Hill's seasonal version was one of the first ice creams Dubba and I ever talked about together. There's just something about that treat that makes them so magical. It still depresses me that I never got to try Ben & Jerry's Makin' Whoopie Pie and every time there's mention of a flavor being resurrected, I have hope that I'll be seeing that flavor returning to the shelves. With that said, when I saw Hood's new version I knew I had to grab it. Just look at the picture and read the description. The ice cream looks like it's an actual whoopie pie with the creme flavored middle ice cream. I feel like we might be seeing a trend here since Friendly's used the same approach with their Ice Cream Cake ice cream. I for one welcome this trend with open arms. Okay, enough with me rambling let's get straight to the ice cream.

[By Nick] My developing unquenchable thirst for coffee desserts has led me into uncharted territory. Not only have I never had a Hood product in my life, we have yet to cover any one of Hood’s frozen yogurts. While Dubba hasn’t had the greatest of luck with their normal ice cream, He has had some success with their new frozen greek yogurt line. Here’s hoping Hood just does yogurt better than they do regular ice cream.
