Discussion Time: Do you ever throw out ice cream?

Now blogger isn't the best at having a discussion, but let's try it anyway. Now as you can tell from the title of this post, I want to talk about what we do with terrible ice cream. Since I am a very literal person, I find myself confused when people comment "the [frozen product] was so bad that I took a few bites and threw it in the trash". Are they saying that they literally threw $3-$6 of product in the trash, or is it just a euphemism of they really didn't like something?

Yes, on occasion I have thrown out a product, but with 9 out of ten bad products, I'll finish the bad product. It's just what's ingrained in my brain. I'm not saying I'm perfect, please don't think that, I've left more than my fair share of food go bad or stale, but if I can help it, I will still eat something. Not saying I'm about to eat expired meat products, but if i'm a few weeks past the best buy on some chips or crackers, I'm going to try it before it goes in the trash. Ahhh, sorry, getting side tracked.

So, discussion time, have you ever thrown out ice cream? If you don't want to leave a comment, just fill out the poll on the right side on blog. For those who have resisted the urge to toss something, what's your trick? My favorite trick is the milkshake. Some quality milk and a healthy amount of nesquik can fix drown out most flavors. Actually my first line of defense is trying to pawn it off on my wife or daughter, milkshake is actually my backup plan. And for those who have tossed, what got you hooked in to the product in the first place? impulse, packaging, heard good things?

Thanks for helping out everyone, I really do appreciate the input.

Ben & Jerry's P.B. & Cookies Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

[New for 2016] Since Nick lost his camera cable and I can't remember to send him the extra one I have, it looks like I need to review one of the new Ben & Jerry's non-dairy pints on my own. It's not like I didn't want some first hand experience with them anyway.

Haagen-Daz Pomegranate Swirl Gelato

[2014-2015] Oh Haagen-Dazs Gelato, we'll miss you so. Ok, we won't really miss you that much, and you aren't completely gone, but if you stare at the freezer aisle a lot, you've probably notice that the HD gelato offerings are a lot smaller than they use to be. Technically tiramisu, dark chocolate chip, black cherry and caramel have survived the 2016 culling, but I would be fairly shocked if they make it in to 2017. Anyway, to commemorate the culling, I give you the cull-ee....

Skinny Cow Ultimate Chocolate Sandwich

[New for 2016] First, a quick announcement aka bad news. I'm not sure if I can pull off posts every other day anymore, there's just not enough going on. I will do my best, but if you see me slip to three days here and there, that's why. It's part logistics, part availability, part monetary. I just wanted to warn everyone ahead of time so that I feel a little less guilty when it actually happens. That said, let's dig in to Skinny Cow's new line up of "fully dipped sandwiches". We've got creamy caramel, vanilla bean dream, and....

Yeti Frozen Custard Review

So, this review is going to start with two apologies. One is to Yeti Frozen Custard as they sent these free samples over five weeks ago (their website is here). I was fairly quick to try them but logistics got in the way of the actual post. The second apology is to everyone who grew up with frozen custard because frozen custard just isn't really a thing in the northeast. I know eggs are a factor and that it shouldn't be drastically different from other things I've tried for the blog, but please forgive my lack of experience here. Now, without further ado, let's try....

Perry's Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

[New for 2016] Sometimes you just have to wait for the right mood to hit before you try an ice cream. I'm pretty confident this will be a bright flavor, so to me it's more of a morning flavor than a late night snack flavor. I've really wanted to throw this in to a breakfast sundae, but let's go official and try a bowl of....

Ben & Jerry's EMPOWER mint Ice Cream Review

[Announced May 17, 2016] You know Ben & Jerry's is big in to democracy right? Democracy of (all) the people, by (all) the people, and for (all) the people. Not just the company, the actual Ben and Jerry too. From getting the dough out of politics to getting arrested on the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building, this is a serious matter for them. The next step? A new flavor ofcourse!

Are Limited Oreos Double Stuf?
aka The Nosh Show Episode 78

Greetings Nosh Show Listeners, Episode 78 is live and guess what we argued about this week? OREOS! Why wouldn't we argue about Oreos! Nothing groundbreaking, but at one point Ryan was trying to bring up the point of why the limited edition flavors never say "Double Stuf" on them. I could be wrong, but I thought limited edition Oreos were double stuffed, they just didn't say it.

So the limited edition Oreo is in the middle there, doesn't it look more like the double stuf on the left than the regular Oreo on the right? I think so. Most limited edition Oreos have always looked bigger than a regular Oreo to me. I could be wrong, don't quote me on it. What do you think?

Update: As requested by Technosquid, I used a limited edition Oreo that has just a single flavor inside. Thanks for the idea as it proves my point even better than the first comparison!

If you want more Oreo news, Junk Banter has it all, like Fruity Crisp Oreos!

Good Humor Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich

[New for 2016] At this point in the 2016 ice cream season, I'm basically just holding out for sales on what hasn't been covered yet. Not that $4.50 is a huge price for a box of four treats, but I'd much rather spend three bucks for...

Starbucks Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino

[By Nick, New for 2016] It's crazy to think today marks 4 years that Dubba has let me spout out my thoughts about frozen desserts to you all. It feels like just yesterday I was asked to join On Second Scoop so I'd stop harassing Dubba with emails about my opinions on flavors he's reviewed or was planning on. Or at least that's why I think he let me join.

This past year has been pretty hectic for me but I won't be disappearing just yet. Until I find my way into an ice cream company (which will happen) I'm going to be reviewing as much as possible. Our community has become somewhat a second family to me and it still amazes me how much it grows year to year. You all make On Second Scoop the site it is today. Without you, I'm sure Dubba and I would've called it quits but you all have been here with us through the highs and the lows. I couldn't thank you all enough for what you've done for me as an individual. I went from a socially anxious kid with a passion for ice cream to someone with confidence and a promising future in the sweets world. I owe all of it to you guys, no doubt about it. Okay, before this gets too emotional, let's review Starbucks latest frappuccino which is inspired by the ice cream world.

Turkey Hill Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream

[New for 2016, Apr-Jun availability] It's been too long since I've had a new ice cream flavor from Turkey Hill. Technically it feels a bit late to reveal a Red Velvet flavor since it was trendy in 2011 and pretty mainstream by 2014, but it's 2016 now. Can TH serve up something different here?

State of the Freezer Address
8th Anniversary Edition

Hello everyone, hope you had a good Mother's Day. While the following post will probably involve a lot of rambling, I just want to start off by saying that I appreciate all of you that follow me. Whether this is your first season here or your 8th, do know that I am glad you are here and am grateful that you stick with me as my style and process has changed over the years. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for worse, but it's a process that never ends apparently. Let's do a quick freezer check and then we will get to the rambling.

Upstairs freezer is housing stuff that you will see on the blog soon. Tasty Red Velvet Cake, more Perry's, and a young company called Yeti Frozen Custard. (usual selection of veggies and breakfast treats are in stock as well). Tempted to do a new review of Blue Bunny cookie dough because they have upgraded the swirl from super sweet to epic. Good times!

Friendly's Wattamelon Sundae Cup

[New for 2016] Hello all. I just wanted you to know it took me way too long to pick which review to post today, but in the end, fate decided. You see, this is our 1500th review but I'll get more in to that on Sunday (anniversary time!). Ahhhh, nevermind, this story is boring, let's get to the review!

Yuengling's Cinnamon Churro Ice Cream

[New for 2016] You might remember that Yuengling was basically the first ice cream companies to mention a 2016 lineup Since then a whole lot of new ice cream has come out, and technically I only found one of their 2016 flavors, but it's the one I wanted to try first anyway.

Taco Bell Rockstar Punched Freeze
and the Nosh Show Episode 77

[New for 2016] Another sleepy Monday means another day of me thinking about trying the new Taco Bell freeze that was officially announced about 3 months ago. If you don't know, fruit punch flavored Rockstar Punched is pretty much my favorite energy drink... at least to my taste buds, my stomach has a somewhat different opinion, but no matter. It's Nosh Show Monday and we need something frozen to review!
