Gelato Fiasco The Big County Brownie Gelato

[New for end of 2014] Oh, for the love of Pete, did I lose another review? I swear I had notes on this one.... where did it.... Oh, nevermind. I remember the main points, plus I still have some left.

Walgreens S'mores Swirl Ice Cream

[New for 2014] New flavor hunting had been going terrible, so I decided to take advantage of Walgreen's 2 for $4 special. A two dollar snack is hard to beat... actually, it's two $1 snacks considering that I'll do my best not to eat it in one serving..... <hint> <hint>

Sweet Scoops Peanut Butter Bliss Frozen Yogurt

[By Nick, New for early 2015] ‎It's been awhile since Sweet Scoops has been on the blog. They've been around for awhile but they're making some moves this year. They've redesigned their packaging, added more seasonal flavors and even have a few limited edition flavors planned. The kind folks at Sweets Scoops offered to send me some of their products to review so let's start with their latest limited edition flavor.

Edy's Snickerdoodle Frozen Custard

[2015-2016] With four Edy's frozen custard choices before me, I was a little lost on which one to choose... but then, as I reached for the salted caramel pretzel, the orange shield of snickerdoodle jumped in front of me. Ahhh, it's going to be a good night, isn't it?

Hot For Cookie
A Cold Stone Creamery Hot Stone Dessert

[By Nick] So if you live in the North East like Dubba and I, you've been experiencing a lot of below zero days as of late but that's not going to stop us from eating ice cream. It seems like a good time to review something from Cold Stone's not-so new Hot Stone line. Thankfully I had a date with a pretty girl today that involved us going to Cold Stone. With the temperature barely in the positive range, I knew it was a perfect time to try out one of these creations.

and now for some yogurt talk...

Desserts That Matter Boutique Ice Cream

Summer 2018: It seems like Desserts that Matter / DF Mavens has shutdown

As most of you know, this blog is dedicated almost exclusively to stuff that you can pick up in the freezer aisle, but that doesn't mean we won't jump at the chance to try something new. Case in point, Desserts that Matter asked if I would be willing to look over their flavor list and pick out a handful of flavors to try out on the blog. They are a boutique ice cream manufacturer that serves the New York Metropolitan Area but today, well, I'll be trying them from comfy ol' central Mass.

As you can see, I have a pretty wide selection of flavors to try.

Pierre's Holé Molé and Croppy Road Ice Creams

[By Nick, New for end of 2014] When Pierre's offered to send samples of their new collaboration flavors with Crop Bistro, Hole Mole and Croppy Road, I was all over them. I mean, Dubba hates spicy so we all know Hole Mole wouldn't be for him. Croppy Road has a smokey caramel swirl and after my experience with Tea-riffic, I feel obligated to review all smokey flavors from here on out... for science. Let's go with Hole Mole first just because toffee is involved.

Edy's Mint Cookies 'N Cream Frozen Custard

[2015-2016] Despite my unpleasant experience with the chocolate malt yesterday, I still have high hopes for the next of six new Edy's frozen custards .

Haagen-Dazs Tres Leches Brigadeiro Ice Cream

[for 2015 only] So a fellow named Ben commented that Target will be the first distributor of the new Haagen-Dazs artisan collection in Massachusetts, and he was right. The problem is, my fellow Target shoppers have left me with just two choices: Banana Rum Jam and....

Hood Jelly Donut Ice Cream

[New for 2015] Donut flavored ice creams.... they're always so alluring. Granted I'm a huge fan of breakfast sundaes so I'm a little bias, but there's just such a fun factor the second you hear "donut" in the name. There's no way I'm walking past a flavor like this.

Breyers Blasts! Chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

[By Nick, debuted in 2012] Since Dubba bashed Breyers yesterday, it's only fitting I bash them today. This is not a dessert you want to be serving to your Valentine tonight. This stuff is awful.

Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences

[New for 2015] Let's start this review with the disclaimer that my expectations for this product are extremely low. I have yet to really lock in to any of Breyer's Italian frozen dairy desserts, but the urge to try new products is too strong to resist... plus I bought it cheap at Wal-mart.

Emack and Bolio's Ice Cream

[By Nick] Last week I was invited to a Yelp event at my local Emack and Bolio's. Yes, apparently Yelp has events. I was mainly there to support my fellow local blogger, Daniel from FUSSYlittleBLOG as he did his first event as a Yelp Ambassador. Yes, apparently Yelp also has ambassadors.

I've been meaning to check this place out since I moved to Albany so it all worked out for me. The place is really cozy and welcoming. I felt at home in this shop which says a lot. My guest for the night said she could easily see herself getting ice cream and working on homework here since it's only a few minutes from both of our colleges as well. This is how a scoop shop should be.

8 New Talenti Flavors for 2015!

You read that headline right, there are seven new flavors coming to the Talenti line up this year. That's just crazy (in a good way ofcourse). See, it all started with a twitter tip from John.

Talenti flavor #35 : Oatmeal Raisin Cookie gelato

After John sent us a photo of his discovery, I did a little digging. Seeing as he found flavor #35, I had hoped to figure out flavors 31-34, but instead, yeah, I found flavors 31 through 37.

#31 Raspberry Cheesecake Gelato - test marketed at the end of last year (Nick's review)
#32 Hazelnut Chocolate Chip Gelato - ha, called it! Nick's review here
#33 Salted Peanut Caramel Gelato - it's epic! my review here
#34 Coffee Toffee Gelato - Nick's review here
#35 Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Gelato - my review here
#36 Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Gelato - Nick called it! my review here
#37 Tiramisu Gelato - no mix-ins unfortunately my review here

Now it's just my opinion, but this list tells me that Talenti is very serious about stealing market share from everyone. So many companies want a piece of the gelato pie nowadays, but instead of playing it safe, Talenti comes out swinging with a wide range of flavors including taking a shot right back at classic ice cream with a cookie dough flavor. As long as they maintain quality, this should be an awesome year for them.

Big thanks to John for the info. Keep those tips and pictures coming everyone!

And this makes 8: Alana sent in pictures of the new Target exclusive that Nick and I have heard about but have yet to find. Coconut Chocolate Chip doesn't have a number and I assume it's their usual coconut flavor but with their fantastic chocolate flakes mixed in. I guess hazelnut is out of job! Thanks again for the pictures!

The Nosh Show Episode 48

Good snowy morning Nosh Show Listeners! That's right, my beloved Massachusetts is getting another foot of snow as I type this. Nothing like back to back to back to back snow storms!

Anyway, a new Nosh show episode is now available... minus GrubGrade that is. Sorry, can't resist the urge to tease him for sleeping through Ep48... especially since I almost slept through Ep47. The brandy new Red Velvet Oreos get several minutes of chatter, I give a thumbs down to my BodyArmor beverage, explain lactose and lactase, and wrap up with a Nosh of the week vote for the new Oh My Yog! from Stonyfield.

Have a good week everyone, stay safe! stay warm!

Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Half Baked Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for End of 2014] For those who follow me on my various other social media outlets, you'd know I went on a tour of Greyston Bakery at the beginning of January. It was around the same time that Ben & Jerry's new flavor was hitting store shelves. Now if you don't know, Greyston Bakery is the bakery that supplies Ben & Jerry's with all of their fudge brownies (but not the blondies or cheesecake brownies). While I was at Greyston, I got to see the factory and even try freshly baked brownies that were on their way to the deep freeze to meet their fate in a pint of Ben & Jerry's. To say that was a magical experience wouldn't be doing it justice.

Blue Marble Cookies 'N Cream Ice Cream

[By Nick] I wasn't kidding when I said I had a backlog. Remember when I went on a tour of the new Whole Foods in my area? Well this pint was from that trip. That and I still have one more pint after this to review from it. Time to get Blue Marble's first review on the site!

Edy's / Dreyer's Rolling Out Frozen Custard

[New for early 2015] So a few days ago, I was sent a tweet telling me that Edy's (Dreyer's) website has been updated with a new product line: FROZEN CUSTARD! As Edy's steps further away from the disaster that is frozen dairy dessert, they surprise us with six fun sounding flavors:

And look, it's already in the freezer section! (photo sent in by Ayumi)

Besides old fashion vanilla (my review here), salted caramel pretzel (my review here), and peanut butter pie (Nick's review here) in the picture above, we will also see snickerdoodle (my review here), chocolate malt (my review here), and mint cookies n' cream (my review here). [I found an unlisted seventh flavor at walmart: strawberry shortcake! (my review here)].

Nutrition facts range from 200-250 calories per serving and the container size is just one quart, so I expect a pretty respectable product inside. Even the ingredient lists seem fairly short (well, besides a reliance on four different gums). We'll definitely be reviewing these as they become available this month.

Now these aren't on the website yet, but Ayumi also found new Outshine Simply Yogurt Bars in Mango, Peach, and Strawberry (and Blueberry). My gut tells me it's trying to compete with Fruttare (despite being froyo vs milk), though I guess it could be competing with Yoplait as well. I'm not a huge fan of ultra thick bars (like they appear on the box), but I'll definitely try at least the strawberry.

Thanks to Ayumi for the pictures. If you spot something new, be sure to let us know through email, twitter, facebook, etc.

Hershey's Oatmeal Cookie Ice Cream

[2018 Update]: Hershey's has upgraded this flavor to Oatmeal Cookie Craving. It has the same basic ingredients though something has changed as the nutrition facts are a little lower.

Breyers Mint Chocolate Gelato Indulgences

[2015-2016] Now I know Breyers did a good job hyping up their new gelato last year. Between their parenthood / "date night" marketing scheme, they did a decent job of pretending their gelato is a high end treat... wait, no no, sorry, I'm starting this review the wrong way. Look, they have a neat looking product and I didn't expect them to abandon it this year. It's no surprise that they've got at least two more flavors coming this year including....
