To shove, or not to shove

Ok, we need to have a little chat... ok, I just need to talk to myself and remind myself to lay off the snacks already. It's just, well, I've been on a snacking binge and I just chased my lunch with a twisted frosty (M&M ofcourse). About two thirds of the way through, I felt full... but I just couldn't bring myself to waste that ice cold yumminess, and now my tummy is just a bit too full. Ohhhh, I know better, and I'm usually really good about stopping, but every now and then, you just let go and remind yourself why you don't do that anymore.

I'm not 18 anymore, but I don't "diet" either. Diet is an evil word. You know, I was jokingly going to write a post a long time ago called "the ice cream diet", but then I discovered a book with the same name. Oh well. You know what my ice cream diet tips are? Very simple.

1) Start by reading the nutrition label. Get a little guilt going first.
2) Pick a smaller bowl - big bowl is just asking for trouble
3) Uses a bad scoop: a standard spoon works fine. This makes it harder to get more ice cream out.
4) Now that you've made yourself a moderate treat, ENJOY!!!

If you don't enjoy it, what's the point? The whole point of ice cream is to put you in a good mood, that's why it's a dessert! Now if you have trouble moderating, do regular ice cream one night and low fat or sherbet the next night (in general this is what I try to do). Please don't try to deny yourself either. You know what happens when I deny myself a small treat? I go out and buy myself a big treat like a frosty, and now where am I? Double or triple the calories and fat of what I wanted a few hours earlier (plus I'm down a few extra bucks). It's all about balance. Work and Play. Fun and not so Fun. Treats and Exercise. Ice Cream and going for a nice Walk (which I should have done today but I had to run an errand).

I don't know, I guess I just don't want people to get the wrong idea. Sure, I might have a treat at lunch, or even at breakfast on a rare occasion, but by no means am I advocating the never ending devouring of said treats, especially the "super premium" kinds. Remember, it's all about the balance. Ice cream is a break, a time to relax, just don't let it break you.

Local Review: Coco's Tropical Ice

I had planned to fill my lunchtime with the cheeziness of a 79 cent Cumby's chill zone frozen beverage (= faux ICEE), but the machine was broken.... bummer.

As I was headed back east, I remembered something: The new Coco's Tropical Ice. You see, in central mass, we're still waiting for Rita's to really infiltrate our state (though technically there is one in Salem).Until then, what's an italian ice lovin' person to do? Iunno, because I don't really have any italian ice lovin' friends in the area... hehehehehe, sorry, with an ice cream stand in every town, sometimes you forget about other frozen treats.

Ok, quick lesson: Now if you want to be literal, gelati is the plural of gelato. Now somewhere along the line, the term "gelati" was tweaked by Rita's and others to mean a layered/mixed dessert of italian ice and soft serve. Weird... you know, I really thought I had tried Turkey Hill's Duetto Gelati at some point but I can't find the review.

Back to Coco's. First off, in an effort to drum up business, there's a big sign out front that says free samples. Simple marketing, because you come in and see the reasonable looking prices on the wall and realize you have to buy something. There are currently 12 flavors in all. Rita's may have 33 flavors, but they don't have Coco's "chocolate peanut butter" or "cookies n' cream" now do they? I actually tried a sample of the chocolate peanut butter and while I expected the worst, it wasn't bad at all. In the right mood I could definitely be tempted to try a full serving.

Being a traditionalist, and remembering my slush puppy filled youth, I picked cherry italian ice for my purchase. Now the very nice lady asked me if I was willing to try a bit of chocolate softserve on top because the cherry italian ice and chocolate soft serve is what makes up their "chocolate covered cherry" gelati flavor. Having never tried this combo before, I will admit to being a little... unsure. It's just not something I would think to do. Even now, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I'm not disgusted or anything, I'm just debating how much I like the combo.

Let me note that the italian ice they serve is in a semi liquid state, which is cool in my books. The problem with things like PhillySwirl is that I don't have the patience to let it melt (not even sure if I am suppose to let it melt). No problem here at Coco's, you get to dig right in. (and if you are on the run, it means you can drink it)

More stuff to note: Everything is made on site and according to the writeup in the local paper, the flavors come from fresh ingredients. I will personally attest that I found a few tiny cherry bits in my italian ice.

If you want something different, or maybe if you are trying to cut back on the ice cream, why not give your local italian ice place a try and see what's on their menu. (thanks for getting to the end of the most poorly written local review ever. The point is that I will definitely be going back. I'm thinking of trying something with vanilla softserve, mmmm)

My apologies to Stone Ridge Creamery

I think it may have been..... October? sure.... when I picked up Caramel Waffle Cone from Stone Ridge Creamery. It then got "lost" at the very bottom of the deep freezer.

Wow, that's alot of shrinkage!
Look close and you can see the line where the ice cream use to be.

Oh my, it's gone to soft serve on the edges, and those are some nasty ice crystals...  I'm thinking this may have spent some time in the upstairs freezer at some point. So weird.

Want to hear something scary? The waffle cone bits where still crunchy!! They're big too!

Anyway, the ice cream is totally wasted. It has that weird funky gritty texture that really burned out ice cream has. Bummer since the caramel seems to have a nice mild flavor (though it could have faded over time)

Sorry stone ridge, I'll try this again another time.

DQ Blizzard of the Month - Strawberry Golden Oreo Review

I don't know about you, but when I here the name "Strawberry Golden Oreo Blizzard", I'm just not impressed. I'm, well, a little frightened. Something just doesn't sound right to me.

Hmmm, well, iunno, the official image looks straight forward enough, but something still worries me a little. I guess I'm afraid that it's going to taste cheap and disappointing.

Scoop It Forward

So many people were mad that "evil" Walmart got there hands on an exclusive flavor, but something tells me they won't be nearly as mad (hopefully) about two new Target exclusive flavors. Firefox just updated to 3.6.4, so for the heck of it, I plugged "ice cream" into the persona finder. What did I find? this persona. "Scoop it forward"? "Together for a Sweet Cause"? What is this? Time to go digging.

I've never seen these two flavors before: Berry Voluntary and Brownie Chew Gooder. The site mentions scoopitforward.com, but going there informs one to go to www.volunteermatch.org/scoopitforward/.

What to do: Go to volunteer match, plug in your zip code, find a volunteer opportunity you like, and submit your details. You will then receive a coupon via email for a free pint of the new flavors, and you can pass that coupon on to five friends so they can get free ice cream.

If you don't have time to volunteer, you can still head to Target to check out the new flavors.

Berry Voluntary: raspberry cheesecake flavored ice cream laced with white chocolate chunks and raspberry swirls (my review here)

Brownie Chew Gooder:  vanilla caramel ice cream with fudge brownie pieces, finished with a caramel swirl (my review here)

Now it says they these two flavors will be available for the rest of the year in both pints and mini cups, so I'm thinking these little guys will make a great lunch time dessert in the very near future.

It also mentioned that there are only a limited number of free coupons and that after that you will get a $1 off coupon instead. Check out the press release for more details. Who knew that target gives 5% of it's income back to the community? That's more than $3 million a week! Nice!

Remember to check back here as I try to get these new flavors on the site soon (Probably not today or tomorrow, but hopefully next week sometime).

Friendly's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae

[Limited Edition for 2009/2010, full time after]
Oh boy! It's time for some live lunchtime blogging. Today's treat was on sale for a mere buck (usually $1.50). I've had friendly's cups before so my expectations are fairly low, but let's see what happens.

Commence Live Blogging

The "Limited Edition" Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae To-Go is made of vanilla ice cream with cookie dough & chocolate chips, covered with fudge, whipped topping & chocolate chips.

Ice Cream - The Universal Constant

So, I'm checking out episode 3 of Persons Unknown and what do we have here.

That's right, one of the main characters is drowning her sorrow in some Cherries Jubilee. She's eating the only ice cream in town with the only spoon in town. When all hope is lost, it's time for ice cream.

Funny, I just did a quick Google search for "Cherries Jubilee ice cream" and apparently our characters are hanging out at one funny looking Baskin Robbins. It's kinda funny that no other big ice cream company calls their cherry flavor this. The only other close name that popped up was Hershey Ice Cream's "Cherry Jubilee" ice cream (side note: for accuracy, Bing search led me to these low production brands)

Anyway, it's not the greatest show on the planet, but the characters are decent (including the Christian Bale wannabe and Alan Ruck who we all know from somewhere). This is summer time TV, so it will do just fine.

Cherries Jubilee is just cherry ice cream with cherries, possibly with a hint of an adult beverage. The most similar flavor on the blog: Black Cherry.

Let's try this again

Ok, I'm a day late and now four dollars short(er), but I hereby declare summer officially started! Woohoo!

Can't believe it took me till June to have my first scoop of fresh ice cream! and boy was it fresh, it was still soft in fact (I almost lost my ice cream actually). I hit up Pinecroft Dairy to try some of their Brownie Batter ice cream today. I think if you are going to call something brownie batter that technically the swirl should actually be brownie batter (of some sorts). Well, it may have had a little texture, maybe like chocolate syrup mixed with flour or something, but it wasn't true batter. It did have some nice small brownie chunks in it, though ofcourse, I could always use a few more. My only real regret is not getting a larger size (it was good, it just wasn't a heavy ice cream that weighed me down).

Ok, i'll stop talking in ( )s now. Don't forget to celebrate the start of summer with your favorite place this week! Bring the coworkers, the kids, whoever will come with you! Scoop On!

Feel free to ignore this post

"feel free to ignore this post".... I have your interest now don't I? hehehehehe, I love reverse psychology, and for those who actually skip this post, it's ok, I'm not offended.

So it's summer time again (officially) and I figured what a better way to get out of the slumps and back into the swing of things than with some local ice cream. Oh I miss Uhlman's and my peaceful lunchtime breaks, if only I could find some place local that was as quaint.... Well, I got a tip that I should check out Gibby's.

Let's just say it didn't go well. First off, I'm in a really bad mood, so we're not starting in a good place. I drive through about 17 red lights and behind one guy who felt that it's ok for his giant beat up truck to take both lanes. I finally get there and I'm a little surprised. Instead of Uhlman's green grass and cool breeze, I find myself in the Gibson Dairy Delivery Truck graveyard. Yes, I know I'm being picky, but it gets worse.

They have several picnic tables which is always good, so I head over to the counter behind a family who has already ordered their lunch, but their little boy doesn't want it, and so he's whining and then whining some more until he gets something else. Meanwhile, the only person on duty is in the back cleaning the grills or something. So I wait... and listen to more whining. Hmmmm, there sure is alot of gum stomped into the ground around here. More waiting. More whining. That's it, I'm taking my bad mood and getting out of here.

See, Gibby's had the chance to win me over, but instead I'm not going back there, there are way too many stop lights between here and there. That's just not my idea of a relaxing lunch break. I know, I am being horribly picky because I'm in a bad mood, but that's why I went to get ice cream in the first place, to cheer myself up.

On the way back to the office, I decided I would try to resolve the situation and pick myself up a twisted frosty. I head to my favorite lunchtime Wendy's, the one that always has a short line.... and the parking lot is full and the drive thru is nearly backed up to the street.

Looks like I've fallen into that viscous cycle we all know. You are in a bad mood, so you think negatively so that no matter what you do, you expect to fail. I spin out of the Wendy's parking lot, head down the street and decide to stop for some gas. Still flustered, I mutter under my breath as some jerk double parks his shiny mustang.... he then proceeds to hold open the door for a lady on the way in, and then goes out of his way to hold the door for a guy in a wheelchair on his way out. Guess he's not such a jerk after all.

Ok, one last chance to save my lunch break. I run into Shaws and pick up the Hershey's Cookies n' Creme Milkshake that someone recommended after I tried the Hershey's Creamy Chocolate Milkshake three weeks ago. Well, color me impressed. No, it's not as thick as a real milkshake, but wow, this tastes exactly like those little hershey cookies 'n' creme candies you can buy. Talk about nailing the flavor down. It's not something I would drink everyday, but if you want to be different, this is definitely one thing to try. And if you love those little candies, you will adore this beverage.

Kemp's Low Fat Frozen Yogurt
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Let's recap my brief history with Kemp's Frozen Yogurt:
-First there were those nasty parfaits
-Determined to expand my horizons, I was pleasantly surprised by
   their Denali Moose Tracks froyo.
-I got two samples of Kemp's new Fro-zing, but it was too tangy for me
-I pressed on and dared to try Chocolate Caramel Brownie...
   and was chewily thoroughly disappointed

Now I've got Kemp's low fat Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough frozen yogurt in my fridge, and well... this will probably be the last Kemp's Frozen Yogurt in my fridge for awhile.

The idea is like every other take on this flavor: Vanilla Frozen Yogurt with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Flavored Chunks.

Talenti Gelato Caramel Cookie Crunch #12

[2024 Update] This used to be one of my very favorite pints of anything back in the day... oh how things have changed. It still looks pretty enough, but it's a pale imitation of it's former self. Original review after the break plus some pictures from 2014 as well.

Dunkin Donuts Blue Raspberry Coolatta Review

Have you heard that silly radio spot for the two new Coolatta flavors? the one about mixing the red of the new watermelon flavor and the blue of the new blue raspberry flavor? Well, consider yourself lucky if you haven't. Never the less, I was somewhat excited about the new flavor until I saw this...

Holy Freholy that's a bright blue drink!

Early on as kids we learn a simple truth: Purple raspberry things tend to taste like raspberry and blue raspberry things tend to taste like fake-raspberry flavored sugar.

This bad boy is no exception, and I do mean bad. Granted, coolattas can vary depending on how well they are made, but man, this one is painfully potent. I'm thankful it only cost me $2.13 so that I don't have to feel so guilty about wasting my money... actually, that's not true. I spent my two bucks so that you don't have to.

Oh, that's got bite. It hits you as you start drinking, you keep drinking, and then as soon as you stop the aftertaste really bites you.

So, welcome blue raspberry as yet ANOTHER uninspired member of the coolatta family (and I thought the grape coolatta was disappointing). I will never understand why the strawberry coolatta has real berry bits in it yet every flavor since then seems to be some sham freeze pop flavor.

man this thing is awful like the one from TGI Fridays.

2011 Update: First, technically the watermelon coolatta debuted in 2009, so I'm not sure why they were treating it as new in 2010. Second, the blue raspberry has made it to 2011 but the watermelon coolatta did not. Shocking!

2013 Update: Spring is in full swing and the Blue Raspberry Coolatta has returned!

2014 Update: Blue Raspberry returns.... and he brought watermelon with him!

Limited Edition Turkey Hill Frozen Yogurt
PomBlueberry Chocolate Truffle

We're going to keep this short and simple.

The Good News:
Turkey Hill makes a fine frozen yogurt and I can't wait to try one of their other flavors.

The Bad News:
I REALLY don't like the actual flavor of this particular frozen yogurt

The description of this flavor is Pomegranate Blueberry low fat frozen yogurt with dark chocolate fudge truffles. I enjoyed Hola Fruta's Pomegranate Blueberry Sherbet so much that I just assumed I would enjoy this as well... but to me, this flavor combo is much better served by a sherbet rather than by an ice cream or frozen yogurt. It needs a bite and clarity that this sweet style frozen yogurt can't provide.

Carvel Slice Mmms Cinnabon Ice Cream Roll
from Freezer Burns

Happy (belated) Birthday to Greg over at Freezer Burns! He's picked himself up a special frozen treat for his birthday.

This treat is artificially flavored vanilla ice cream with Cinnabon Makara cinnamon swirls, sweet cream cheese frosting, cinnamon cake pieces and rolled in vanilla crunchies. To find out more about this tasty treat, head on over to his video review.

Note: While I've never seen this product, it's apparently been around since late 2006 --- though as a slightly larger Carvelog. Check out the old press release.

Oreo Premium Ice Cream Cake
A Celebration Foods Dessert Review

[New for 2010] Celebrate good treats, come on, do do do do, it's a celebration! oh boy! the excitement! Sure, my first run in with Celebration Foods wasn't exactly an inspirational success, but tell me, how am I, a lover of cookies n' cream ice cream, suppose to walk by this box over and over again and not grab it?

Mmmmmm, oh that looks so tasty. I love the huge Oreo in the middle, it's a unique touch (though it will make it hard if you are trying to write on the cake). This premium ice cream cake clocks in at 48 fluid ounces and says it serves up to twelve.

When it's gotta be all natural

New Product Line: Even though it's a bit far to go, it's always fun going to a big Whole Foods grocery store and checking out the all natural ice cream freezer section. We were checking out the usual suspects when something new caught my eye.

That's right, Living Harvest tempt --- Non-dairy frozen dessert made with hempmilk. It comes in five varieties: Vanilla Bean, Mint Chip, Coffee Biscotti, Chocolate Fudge and Coconut Lime. We just saw hemp milk for the first time during our last Whole Foods visit, so you can imagine our surprise when we found out Living Harvest makes frozen desserts as well. I was tempted to buy it but wasn't sure it would make it home, maybe next time!

Other News: Tip Top Ice Cream (out of New Zealand) says they have perfected how to wrap ice cream in marshmallow! Their first attempt was some nine years ago, but they have announced the first commercially viable treat will go on sale soon. The new rocky road inspired treat will be part of their Memphis Meltdown product line -- be sure to check out the link, their stuff looks awesome!

Poll Results: I keep forgetting to post the old poll results so that we can have a new poll.

What's your least favorite thing to put in the freezer?

Anything Artificial            77    (43%)

Tart Frozen Yogurt         32    (17%)
Any Frozen Yogurt         15    (8%)
Nonfat Ice Cream           34    (18%)
Lowfat Ice Cream           2     (1%)

Mini Containers              10    (6%)
Single Serve Treats         9    (5%)

Votes total:  179

My first thought was "Wow, people feel pretty strongly about artificial junk in their treats", but then I realized something. If you total all the non-ice cream products, you get 46% of the vote. Is that a hint to keep froyo and lowfat talk to a minimum? No worries, this is the ice cream blog, all are welcome, though some may be ignored (cough)Edy's(cough).

Ok, one more note: Speaking of Edy's (Dreyer's), I passed by their new limited edition Toy Story Lemonade Swirl Ice Cream the other day. It's lemon sorbet and vanilla "frozen dairy product" (It's yet another skim milk fun flavor). If you try it, let us know.

Turkey Hill Light Recipe Ice Cream
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

[Discontinued before 2015] I keep talking about balancing high fat with low fat, so let's dig into some low fat, cold churned Turkey Hill ice cream.

Being a big fan of regular Turkey Hill Cookie Dough Ice Cream, I've been meaning to try their light version for quite some time now.

Hershey's Creamy Chocolate Milkshake

I know with my bias towards thick and creamy milkshakes that I may be the wrong person to review this treat, but it was on sale and I've been dieing for some chocolate milk since the weekend.

As you know, I prefer the flavor of Nesquik to Hershey's, but even then I still like the flavor of this drink. It's a very dark brown color and is a rich, chocolaty experience, but is it a milk shake? Nope. Cellulose Gel and Cellulose Gum do not a milkshake make. Yes, it's thicker, but it's not thick enough to make you stop from chugging it. If it was truly a milkshake, I would go slower, but this thing was gone in a heartbeat.

Yes, I know there is no way to really make a milkshake in a refrigerated form, but one might then ask, why even bother in the first place?

Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream

The great thing about  companies expanding their lines of single serve ice creams means it that much easier to sneak in a quick, cheap review.... and keep the calorie and fat intake a bit lower which is important when we are talking 45% of your saturated fat in one serving.

Nothing overly complicated here, just chocolate ice cream and a peanut butter swirl.

A thoughtful counterpoint

When someone takes a really long time to respond to my post, I have to make sure it get's the right amount of attention. Adam from GrubGrade posted this comment on part 4 of my Ben & Jerry's story:

First off, I just want to say that I read your website on a regular basis and enjoy your reviews. Also, I'm not the guy you met from GrubGrade on the trip, but the "other" writer on the GrubGrade blog.

I preface my comments with that little caveat because, frankly, I find a great deal of hypocrisy in the Ben and Jerry's "social mission," and find your excessive praise for the company to be somewhat off-putting. I do not consider myself a health freak fanatic and am largely against attempts by the government to regulate, shall we say, “less” than nutritious options in schools. I also find the classifying of “good” and “bad” foods to be setting a dangerous precedent in our society, especially for young people. That being said, we as citizens hear an awful lot about the childhood obesity epidemic, and see a lot of mud being slung in the court of public opinion and government action at large fast food and food retail companies. Think about it; the cereal companies are demonized for providing cereal with (gah!) 10+ grams of sugar per serving, while anyone who offers a cheap French fry to a kid is decried as a greedy and faceless, we-don’t-care-about-your health company which gives our great institution of capitalism a bad name. God forbid something contain a dietary insignificant amount of trans fat provided by partially hydorginated oil, because obviously the use of much more expensive organic palm oil in a similar product will add years to the consumers life.

Ok, I’m rambling. Sorry. My point is that at the end of the day, Ben and Jerry’s may have a great mission with being nice to their employees and using quality, fair-trade ingredients, while all the foodie Obama-ites in our society can applaud them for it. But how come the company gets the pass when it comes to the very real fact that their ice cream is probably the most fattening stuff on the market? I’m not saying it’s not good or can’t be enjoyed in moderation, but it really seems to me that just because they are the “hip” or “progressive” company with their environmental image, they get a free pass when it comes to many of the criticisms that people have of larger company’s that don’t excessively tout their environmental virtues and blah blah blah. Nevermind that the stuff costs double or triple as much, but the fact that a half cup of Ben and Jerry’s has 270 calories and 9 grams of saturated fat per ½ cup (and seriously, who eats a half a cup?) doesn’t garner nearly as much outrage as say, a kid ordering a small fry off the dollar menu at Micky D’s strikes me as the most hypocritical aspect of the current debate in food politics.

I am all for people making responsible choices and enjoying crappy foods in moderation (hey, I look forward to my Dunkin Donut each week and nightly bag of potato chips as much as anyone) but why does Ben and Jerry’s avoid the criticisms of the health watchdogs? To me, it’s a question of elitism and pretension, and like I said, it’s really off-putting.

Ok, that was long and probably fairly convoluted, but hopefully someone gets at least some of what I was trying to convey.

-Adam

Now that's what I call a comment, and it also brings up a point that has been lingering in the back of my mind ever since I went to visit the land of peace, love & ice cream. Maybe it comes from my wife, or maybe it comes from having two kids, but I am indeed one of those people who now labels food healthy and unhealthy, good and bad.  I'm sorry, but ingredient lists use to be a lot shorter when I was a kid. Today's food is laden with chemicals and preservatives yet doesn't taste as fresh and as simple as it did decades ago. I like all natural, and as the last poll shows, about half of you value it more than anything else when it comes to your desserts.

that said, i have worried about seeming too praising of Ben & Jerry's. I think it's a combination of my childlike idealogic nature and my life experiences. Maybe this is a good time for a story.

So, at B&J's headquarters, I got to make the new CEO squirm for just a second... hehehehe. Everyone was harping on the whole "Wal-mart is evil" thing and all that, but I decided to repose the question in a more analytical way. To paraphrase, my question basically was "how does Walmart offering your product at cutthroat prices affect your margins and henceforth your ability to donate to charity?" There was a moment of wheels turning and then we got the whole volumes of scale helps balance out the reduced profit margin story. I'm willing to accept that answer for now. Heck, we can even keep in mind that a $3 pint today may just supplement your usually $5 a pint habit, so it keeps customers in the loop and keeps them interested, etc etc etc. Anyway, that's my short story, and maybe enforce the idea that I don't mean to appear to be naive. Instead I want to inspire everyone to try harder. Bust your company for not recycling or giving back. I don't care if it's as simple as bringing your soda can home. Every little bit counts.

And one more point, I will agree with Adam on one point, please don't eat Ben & Jerry's every night. Enjoy in moderation because this tasty yet very fatty ice cream will bog you down. I try to attach nutritional info to my posts and I do try to remind everyone that some of these high octane flavors can be as much as 50% of your saturated fat in a single serving. With that said, H-D and B&J are great rewards for mowing, cleaning, running a marathon, etc, etc, hehehehe. There's no shame in enjoying B&J's one night, and then something low fat the next. Balance, it's all about balance.

Finally, I think gov't stepping into school lunches is fine, and I don't mind them keeping an eye on things like preservatives and genetically modified foods. However, it comes down to the consumer (that means you and me!) for choosing where we go to eat, which cereals we picks for our kids, all that. I have unfortunately become a label reading monster and accept responsibility for what my family eats, I suggest you do the same.

Lastly, Ben, Jerry, you guys still rock in my book.

Ok, no more soapbox for awhile, let's get back to reviewing ice cream!
