Aldi Ice Cream

[New for Mid 2026] I don't do much shopping at Aldi because it's (A) not convenient and (B) often cross contaminated. That said, I did want to see those two new fun pints that @candyhunting and others posted, so we ran in to grab a photo the other day. To my surprise, no cross contamination (that I noticed at the time!), and at $3.29 a pint, why not bring home....

Aldi Sundae Shoppe Frosted Animal Cracker Ice Cream

It's a tough call, but I'm going animal cracker first! I take my first bite and it tastes like... well, it tastes like cotton candy actually, and the swirls, they are reminding me of another flavor....

I wonder if they came up with the flavor, thought it tasted like cotton candy, but then thought "ahhh, we really need a mix-in"... wait, it's coming to me now. There was a Serendipity flavor with a white confectionary sugar swirl... it was Unicorn Bliss! I knew I remembered this swirl from somewhere. 

The swirl is much more solid than the ice cream, so it's kind of gone everywhere, often to the sides, so it does complicate scooping through this one a bit (that probably sounds silly, but when you try this pint, you'll know what I mean).

Anyway, this one is sweet but subtle but probably really sweet. I was on the fence about it, but a few minutes after I stopped eating it, I was definitely feeling the sugar rush. If I need to warn you about anything, it's probably that.

So, overall, fun flavor, no complaints there. It's also got a nice mainstream texture: soft, but not too soft, also not too solid, and thankfully not too gummy! My final opinion is just a matter of working out two things. Will the sweetness get to me, and with the swirl hold up? 

Let's flip to the oatmeal.... I feel like I've seen this flavor before.

I take my first bite and WHOA, that was unexpected. The other pint was pretty mild, so I wasn't expecting the oatmeal spiced kick in the tastebuds.

To me, there are two kinds of oatmeal cookies. There are the crunchy, mildly flavored ones that taste great when dipped in a cold glass of milk, and then there are the soft, potent flavored ones that taste like they have raisins even if they don't have raisins. [right now you either know exactly what I mean or think I'm just that much more crazy]

Anyway, this pint is flavored like the potent cookies and it's a bit of a shock that does thankfully go away in one way, but then unfortunately gets weird in another way.

The base is supposed to be oatmeal cookie flavored, but when you try to eat it sans cookie chunk, it tastes pretty weird. It's like half a flavor, and not the good half of a flavor either.

Seriously, the more I scoop this one, the weirder it tastes.

It's funny that these are both trying to be cookie flavored, but come across so very differently.

On Second Scoop: I finished off the animal cracker one in a few servings and while on the one hand I like it, on the other hand there is a weirdness that builds as you eat it. A few scoops are good, but the further you go, the more you will pick up on something that just isn't right.... or to put it another way. You'll be craving more swirl bits to help balance things out, but then you'll start to wonder if the weirdness is coming from the swirl.

As for the oatmeal one, well.. I still dont like it. The first bite is "maybe I was too hard on this" and the second bite is "no I wasn't".. I think it's the molasses that's not working for me. [I'm not saying this wont work for some, but it's not working for me]

Verdict?  weird
Buy Again?  nope

allergy info: There's peanut oil in the confetti swirl?! I'm used to checking for it in chocolate swirls, but not confectionary swirls. Grrrrrr.
