Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream Bars

[New for 2026] Time to try the fourth of five new 2026 ice cream bars from Ben & Jerry's, though, some of us very vaguely remember them making a cookie dough bar at the beginning of this millenia. Anyway, we know this should be tasty, but let's dive into a box of....

Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream Bars
Vanilla ice cream with gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough, dipped in a chocolatey coating with cookie pieces

(sorry, not the sunniest day for photos)

To keep this short and sweet, I say..... meh.

Just like cookie dough was the weakest of the pint slices, it appears that it's also the weakest of these new ice cream bars.

Maybe I'm spoiled, but there's just no pop here. No component is trying to win me over. It's just doing it's meh thing and moving on.

Maybe I was in a meh mood when I grabbed this from the fridge the other day.... but as of a few minutes ago, my wife agrees that this one is a bit boring.

On Second Scoop: Let's get more specific, shall we? The shell is a nice dark chocolate, no complaints there, it's the filling inside that is misfiring a bit. There is plenty of cookie dough bits inside this particular bar which is cool, but it's hard to taste them over the chocolate. I think what this bar needs is more pizazz in the base ice cream. That would round this one out so that it'd be a good bar rather than just a good enough bar.

Verdict?  needs a little something

  1. My family tried them all. Hands down we liked Caramel Blondie the best. It was just smooth, and all the flavors worked so well together.

    1. Agreed! CB is the best of the bars, we've gone through a bunch of them.

  2. All the Slices were definitely superior to these bars (although it would've been nice to have a Caramel Blondie one!)... I miss them!

  3. Ben and Jerry's has been gaining back favor for me (pb blondie and chunky monkey of all things has been doing it), but what I think I can gather from that and this review seems to point towards is that their mixins are very good but can't cover for a bad base (what I would do for them to try another birthday cake interpretation though...)

Their base vanilla and chocolate both don't really click for me so this lines up with what I'd have expected if I was the one trying it

I do want to try the bars eventually but it's good to know this probably isn't the one for me, thank you for the reviews as always!

  4. Well since B&Js entered the scene, there's been an influx of other brands. Jeni's base is good with ample mix ins! There are lots of others who have entered the market. I think their chocolate needs work. Although I do like the darker chocolate used in chocolate therapy.

    1. Agreed 100 percent, a pint of just the pudding swirl part of chocolate therapy would be top 3 for me, easily

More brands in the space is always good though! (Jenis hasn't quite gotten the perfect mix for me yet but I'm still hopeful)
