[New for 2014, discontinued] Now Wells sent over this next sample for free, but to be honest, I would be hard pressed to walk by this one without trying it. It reminds me too much of the old Blue Bunny Aspen froyo bars from a half decade ago. Keep in mind there is also a blueberry variety, but blueberry flavors rarely work for me.

Friday Night Fight with Yoplait & TCBY Peach Greek Frozen Yogurt

[by Nick, discontinued] IT’S TIIIIMMMEEEE for my first ever Friday Night Fight! What better way to celebrate National Peach Month than with a fight between two peach frozen greek yogurts. Tonight’s competitors are both relative newcomers to the freezer isle. In my opinion, peaches are one of the most underutilized mainstream fruits when it comes to frozen desserts. Besides Ben & Jerry’s Peach Cobbler and Haagen-Dazs Spiced Peach Crumble, no other flavors come to mind. I’m glad to see that they’re getting some love with this greek frozen yogurt trend though. Time for the introductions!

In the left corner, weighing in at a light (non-fat) 100 calories and 6 grams of protein per 69 gram serving is TCBY Peach greek frozen yogurt.

In the right corner, coming in at a hefty (low-fat) 130 calories and 7 grams of protein per 89 gram serving is Yoplait Peach frozen greek yogurt.

To be honest, that was one year longer than I thought I would ever write for a website. I've had my ups and downs as well some surprises this year. I am very grateful to be able to share them all with you guys. I just wanted to take a second to thank some people. First off, thank you Dubba for letting me write for your blog and putting up with my random emails on a daily basis. I'd like to thank all of my fellow bloggers for all the support and help they've given to me throughout the year. Last but not least I want to thank you all of you guys (and girls). Okay enough reminiscing, we’ve got a review to do. I thought what better way to celebrate my one year than by trying a product that incorporates the main flavor of my first review, the underutilized fig. When Dubba first posted about the new yoplait frozen yogurt, their Raspberry Fig greek yogurt was the only flavor to peak my interest. Ever since then, I've been on the lookout for it but to no luck. When Wells asked me if there were any of their new products I wanted to try, I jumped at the opportunity and requested a free pint. Seeing as my love for raspberries equals that of Dubba’s, this one seems right up my alley.

Just like the other Yoplait products, there's no description to be found on the packaging or online. I'm just going to think rationally and say that it’s a raspberry greek frozen yogurt base with figs mixed in. Yeah, that doesn't sound too exciting but I'm curious to see how the pairing of raspberries and figs turns out.

So just like Dubba, I also received a free shipment of products from Wells. When I got the list of the products I would be receiving, the lady mentioned she would be including one of her favorite products in the shipment. I see no better way to start off this slew of reviews than by taking a look at that product. Without further ado, I give to you Yoplait Honey Caramel Frozen Yogurt Bars.

Nick received the 2012 packaging, but this is the 2013 I saw recently

I'd like to preface this review by saying I have a love/hate relationship with honey. I'm a fan of it when it plays a supporting role and isn't the main flavor. However, I am not Winnie the Pooh and I don't enjoy feeling like I'm sucking on one of those store bought honey bears either. We all know I love caramel though, so hopefully that will be the prevailing flavor.

[New for 2012] Let's start with the disclaimer that I am a big fan of yoplait yogurt, the original (red) style in particular. It's just been my go to yogurt for years, usually the raspberry flavor but more recently I will mess with mountain berry or mixed berry for my mid-morning snack.

When I went to the store, I decided on cherry (such a popular froyo flavor) and mixed berry. I figure they've both got a decent chance of being winners.

First open is Cherry Orchard (on the left) with a sneak shot of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia on the right. I just couldn't resist the urge to compare the two visually. After a few small servings, I will admit that the cherry yoplait is decent, if not tame shall we say. There's just something about it that doesn't satisfy me.

Hmmmm, let's try the mixed berry instead.

The scary thing is just how much the froyo tastes like the regular variety but in a disconcerting way. I feel liked I've taken my regular yogurt, put it in the freezer, and then started scooping away. Sure, it's not quiet that solid, you can see all the air ripples in the photo, but man does the texture come across as so very flat.

I'm just confused because I've had this yogurt flavor dozens and dozens of times, yet I can't finish a simple serving when it's frozen? That just seems weird to me. I literally was so bored after a few scoops that I put it back in the freezer and finished off the cherry orchard instead.

At this point, I've lost the urge to try any of the other flavors. In fact, I think the mixed berry froyo has partially killed my appreciation for their regular mixed berry yogurt. I tried pawning off the mixed berry on my wife, and while she will finish it off for me, she'd prefer I pick up something else next time.

You know, it's not that they are terrible, I'm just bored. I'd rather go eat sherbet or something.

Verdict?  not tart or tangy.... but kinda boring
Buy Again?  not for awhile

Saturday Night Showdown with the new kid on the freezer block - Yoplait!

[Discontinued] Good evening ladies and gentlemen. If you have been following our facebook feed then you know that I discovered a new contender in the frozen yogurt scene, and his name is Yoplait. They've jumped on the frozen yogurt bandwagon in a big way, but rather than putting the new kid up against an experienced challenger, we're going to make him battle himself first.

You see, Yoplait has come out swinging hard. Oh sure, TCBY broke out before summer with their introduction into the freezer aisle, but this didn't really shock me as much as this did because they are boldly attacking both the froyo and Greek froyo trend at the same time. I don't think anyone else has tried that yet, at least not in my neck of the woods.

Now, there is one strange thing I should mention before we proceed. Yoplait isn't really talking about these new products yet. There is no mention of it on their website yet, though I did find this lone September 16th facebook post that mentions 7 pints + 2 bars of froyo & 7 pints + 2 bars of greek froyo - they don't specifically list the flavors though, so let me do it for them:

Regular Froyo Bars in Harvest Peach and Strawberry Banana.

Greek Froyo Bars in Honey Caramel and Raspberry.
