German Chocolate Cake Ice Cream Fight Perry's vs Target's Archer Farms

[By Nick, 2015-2016] Welcome to another installment of Friday Night Fights, a fight I'm not too excited about actually but since I had a free sample of this new Perry's flavor, I wanted something to compare it to. Now, not only do both of these German Chocolate Cake flavors have shredded coconut, neither of them have any real chunks of cake. Instead, one contains pecans while the other contains chocolate chunks. This shall be an interesting fight for sure. The rounds will be appearance of the ice cream, mix-in quality and then overall flavor to finish this fight.

(Target) Archer Farms version is chocolate cake flavored ice cream with coconut caramel swirl & chocolate flavored pieces. Perry's Escapes version is chocolate cake ice cream, coconut shreds, pecan pieces, and rich caramel sauce.

Last week, a couple of fellow ice cream enthusiasts let us know that there were some gelato and ice cream changes going on over at Target. Apparently their gelato has changed format again plus their in house Archer Farms name is back in pint size form. Nick and I were both intrigued and I finally got a chance to hit Target at lunch today and make a nice mess of their shelves to get you guys a bunch of pictures... I hope my Target doesn't mind. Oh, I also picked up one of the ice cream pints, so that review will be after the pictures.

Archer Farms Amaretto Cherry Gelato Review

2014 Note: Target changed gelato suppliers at the beginning of the year. Instead of "imported from Italy", it now says it's "Italian-style frozen dessert" and it's made in the U.S.

While popping up in other parts of the country last year (apparently), I've finally seen Archer Farms gelato pop up at several Targets in my area. Gelato has come to earn my respect over these past few years, so it seems only fitting to get these guys up on the blog.

This is Archer Farms Amaretto Cherry Gelato - imported from Italy (funny, I've seen that statement before on other store brand gelatos). I always forget what Amaretto means..... "Amaretto is a sweet, almond-flavoured, Italian liqueur" (from Wikipedia). Well, that explains why there is almond paste in this one. It was $4.99 for a small 30 fl oz container, but the look of it (and it's gelato brothers) keeps catching my eye... wait, you don't think it's that catchy?

Ok, am I the only one who has trouble telling the difference between being bored and being hungry? I think the phenomenom gets worse as you become more tired, but thankfully today I knew I was truly hungry. Not only did I know that, but I wanted something very specific to cure this hunger of mine.

Oh yeah! I knew I needed to finally get back to Target and pick up Archer Farm's Peanut Butter Fudge Ice Cream. Every fiber of my being adores the perfect combination known as peanut butter and chocolate. I couldn't wait to open the container and start my snack break.

Target Archer Farms Monster Cookie Ice Cream Review

[this was rebuilt as a market pantry flavor] Ok, you are going to have to forgive the following post because I already foresee it being a jumbled mess. What can I say? The weekend wore me out and this crazy heat wave has kept me from recovering. As much as the shoveling and oil bills ruin the fun of winter, at least it's not crazy humid. Ok, grab a fan, grab a pint (take that anyway you like), and let's dig into something that's never been on the blog before.

This is Monster Cookie Ice Cream from Archer Farms. I'm guessing most of you are familiar with Archer Farms as the inhouse "premium food products" brand of Target stores. According to the Target website, there are currently 10 ice cream flavors and 3 sorbet flavors. Now I don't do a ton of food shopping at Target, though they do have good prices and I have tried a few of the Archer Farms products. They use to make this killer potato bread, but let's stick to the frozen stuff right now.
