Ben & Jerry's Fudgy Flan Ice Cream

[New for Mid 2025] When I ran to Walmart for a few things before a day trip on Monday, I never expected to see something new. Not only is it new, but it maybe it'll even be different enough to get your attention. Lets dive in to....

Ben & Jerry's Fudgy Flan Ice Cream
burnt caramel ice cream with fudge brownies & pastry cream swirls

Taste the whirled? A series of internationally inspired flavors would be cool.

No brownies or swirl, but I dig the coloring.

Now I did steal a few tiny bites before we left for the day, and my initial reaction to just trying the base was that it's a nice caramel flavor, but I wasn't getting any burnt notes from it.... wait, this is supposed to be flan flavored, not Creme Brule flavored, so why is it supposed to be burnt? maybe they just mean that there will be some added complexity to the caramel flavoring? Please feel free to use the comment section to chime in on what I'm missing, but until then, let's scoop this one properly.

Ok, it's subtle, but I think I get the burnt caramel versus regular caramel bow. It's B&J's, I shouldnt have expected anything too crazy there. I'm Ya gotta go slow.

No pastry swirl yet, but I see lots of the brownies poking through.

Mmmmmm, caramel and brownies are a great combo.

Would it be wrong to say the brownies are almost too fudgy? They are really good, but its a bit of a tough chew..... but, i mean, chewy brownies are packed with flavor.

Still no pastry swirl, but this one is still fun. A single serving is plenty at the moment (it's before 8am), but we shall see how I feel at the end of this pint.

On Second Scoop: So.... I never did find that pastry swirl, but man, these fudgy brownies are pretty killer. The scoops with brownie and caramel ice cream (which is most scoops) are just a really great combo. Yes, literal me is annoyed that this has little to do with Flan, but regular old me is more than happy to scoop this one. Technically I wouldn't mind a third factor in the mix to make this one a huge winner (I keep thinking about a graham swirl, though a caramel swirl would work too), but this is a solidly enjoyable flavor.

Verdict?  should be called "caramel brownie"
Buy Again?  yup (maybe I'll get some swirl next time!)

  1. Yeah idk why they even called it "fudgy flan". Has almost nothing to do with the latter component. And have the pastry cream swirls ever been apparent or even visible in any B&J flavor? Anytime it's listed I never notice it.

  2. Thanks for the review as always Dubba. I grabbed (2) of these for the stash recently. It seems like most people enjoy it but weren't blown away due to pastry swirls not being truly featured if at all.

    1. I wound up buying another pint of this and also a pint of salted caramel brownie so that I can compare the two (and also in hopes of finding that swirl).

  3. Every review I read I read mentions the complete absence of the swirl. My pint didn’t have any. It either blends in with the base completely, or they have major QC issues.

  4. Open this last night. Definitely no pastry swirl, I tasted hints of the burnt caramel but not a lot. What I will say is that this was the most loaded pint of brownies I’ve had in any B&J pint. They were in every section of the pint and super fudgy. Another case of it quite hitting the flavor description but good enough to grab another.
