[New for 2025] The Rice Krispy and Poptart ice cream sandwiches must be very popular at my local Walmart because I never see more than a few boxes of one lone item whenever I run through the freezer aisle. I am still hunting for the other RKT, but until then, let's take a big ol' bite of...

Kellogg's Frosted Strawberry Poptart Ice Cream Sandwich
strawberry flavored ice cream with a strawberry swirl, sandwiched between two frosted strawberry flavor-filled toaster pastries.

Oh man, I love that they have the same silver wrapper as a real poptart!

I will admit that before opening the box, part of my brain had visualized these sandwiches as using full size poptarts. That would be a huge sandwich, but ya know, imaginations happen.
Anyway, I take my first bite and realize that this pint sized bad boy is bringing all the #funfactor. That's right, it's fun from bite #1.
The flavor isn't necessarily mind blowing, it could probably use a little tweaking, but the texture is really well dialed in. I instantly wanted to try the two other flavors.
I've made poptart ice cream sandwiches, but these are better. These tweaked toaster pastries have the right balance of sugar coated crunch but they also aren't coming across as dry or distracting.
As you may have guessed, I totally ate this first one way too fast. I was in shock at how much I was enjoying it, but also I was beyond hungry when I pulled it from the freezer.
But yeah, great first impression. It feels like they took the time to tweak everything and make it work properly, it's not just thrown together. This is not a one time purchase, it's a repeat purchase situation we have here. Sure, I wish that maybe the strawberry ice cream had a bit more flavor, but I'll be fine.
Now, all of that said, keep in mind that the Eggo ice cream sandwiches were fun at first, but I've gotten bored with those after trying the chocolate chip version. I hope that doesn't happen here.
On Second Scoop: I feel like the strawberry was a bit more in my face this time around which makes me think that you need to be in the right mindset when trying these. It was still fun and all, but it was a little much at 7:49am. [disclaimer: I almost bought the cinnamon ones when I saw them, but decided to go for the second poptart first.]
Verdict? fun-ish
Buy Again? try the other flavors first

They look great. I still haven’t found them.i hear they’re pricy, though. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDelete$7 for 4 which isnt great but also not terrible (in my brain anyway). I'd prefer $6 but at least it's not $8.
DeleteI wonder how these compare to the Nightengale line
ReplyDeleteI would assume better tasting but also less pop-tart-y
