Talenti Caramel Pretzels Blondie

[New for 2022] After the epic disappointment that was the strawberry margarita pairing, let's try again with a flavor that has one of my favorite words in the name. That's right, Talenti has put out another pretzel flavor and I am pretty stoked to try....

Talenti Caramel Pretzels Blondie Gelato Pairing #83
sea salt caramel gelato paired with
salted pretzel gelato with blondie pieces

Hmmmm, I mean, the bits should be a good sign

wait, did it get more boring looking?

I take my first bite and I'm not sure how I feel about this one which is kind of strange when you factor in that several of my last reviews have been either love or hate on that first bite.

I love the layered pretzel flavor, but that has several factors working for it. Here, we're just trusting on the quality of the gelato to get us through because the lone blondie piece didn't show up until the end of my serving.... and honestly, I did not like it.

I ate about a full serving (1/3 of the pint) and I will say that it did grow on me some. I do recommend getting both flavors on your spoon, but even then, I wanted one more thing in the mix. I'm hoping the blondie bits will become more frequent, but I'm not even sure if that will help.

If I had my way (and I know it's probably not logistically feasible), but I would have loved for this one to be a chocolate chip flavor. That would have worked nicely with the flavor pairing. I think. Or maybe it just would have made it taste like the layered pretzel flavor.

Oh well, hopefully it gets better!

On Second Scoop: I'm not sure if I liked this one more or less on the second scooping... I think a little more maybe? For whatever reason, I kept thinking it tasted like A.P. Cake which isn't necessarily bad but kind of weird for an ice cream. I'm also now 2/3 through the pint and have still only found one blondie chunk. What's up with that? This one needs a lot more blondie bits and they need to be a lot sweeter to stand out against everything else. That could have been fun.

Verdict?  Confusing

  1. I've always loved the texture and taste of Talenti, but they constantly seem to skimp on the mix-ins. That's why I loved the pretzel layer of their last pretzel flavor too - they can't skimp when it's an entire layer. That lonely blondie piece is so pitiful though! It's a shame when the flavor sounds so good.

  2. Shame............I was actually going to give them another chance with this flavor, on sale of course.

  3. Their QC is clearly inconsistent... because the pint I got was perfect in terms of distribution! Pretty close to half and half for each base (and I agree it tasted best when they were combined), and there had to be at least 10 of those blondie bites, from top to bottom (maybe I got some of yours, sorry). That said, I felt the texture was SLIGHTLY off in this one. A couple of the blondies were a little TOO soft, almost non-solid, and sometimes the gelato seemed a tiny bit... chalky? Can't think of a better word.
