Mad Minis Peppermint & Pumpkin Spice

[New for 2021] I haven't really mentioned mad minis in awhile because, well, not a lot has changed in the last few years. Well, that changes this year as they put out 3 new seasonal flavors (at least, I think they are new - plus I haven't seen Eggnog in person yet). As an added bonus, I found these at Walmart!

Which to eat first?

I decide to go with pumpkin first, and I will admit, for a split second, I thought "wait, was this a mistake?" After a few more bites though, I was sold on the flavor profile. It's not a strong pumpkin flavor like you might except. Instead, it tastes more like the aftertaste you would get from eating some nice cold pumpkin pie.

Now, that may sound like a slight, but it's not meant to be. See, I think it was the flavor of cloves that was hitting me first, that and the soft cookie wafers, so I wasn't sure how I felt at first. After my first few bites though, I settled in and wound up polishing off 4 of these. It definitely has the "I think I need another one" factor kicking in.

Time for the peppermint ones.... you know what's funny about mad minis? There's always that initial hesitation after that first bite. Despite having tried several flavors, I kind of always pause after that first bite and have to adjust to their style of ice cream sandwich. It's the softness of the wafer plus the ratio of wafer to ice cream. It's kind of like biting in to a soft baked Pepperidge farm cookie when you were expecting a crunchy chips ahoy.

That aside, like the pumpkin, you might be a little surprised that the filling doesn't pop more, but mad minis have always been cookie first with a squishy layer to keep them together. The wafers have a nice rich flavor which definitely pops against the non-overpowering peppermint filling.

Not sure which is my favorite of the two yet, but I enjoyed both.

On Second Scoop: Ok, peppermint is definitely my favorite, though I like the pumpkin too. I'm thinking some people might be put off by cloves and not pumpkin being a main factor here, so keep that in mind before picking the pumpkin ones up. As for peppermint, yeah, if you like peppermint and Oreos, I assume you'll like these too.

In case I don't post again in the next few days, have a Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. I saw the Eggnog ones before the Peppermint and Pumpkin Spice at Walmart, but they disappeared almost immediately. Christmas stock supply chains have been hit hard this year! I liked the Eggnog ones best, personally, but the Peppermint were a close second.
