7-Eleven Pepsi Black Cherry Slurpee

[New for Jan 2017] I missed the cherry vanilla slurpee that came out last January, but I'm not missing this cherry cola one... mainly because there's a giant sign for it staring me in the face!

Haagen-Dazs Trio Ice Cream Coming Soon!

Do you know what we have here? According to Haagen-Dazs, it's actual insides of one of their new Trio "pints". How epic does this look?

All photos in this post are courtesy of Haagen-Dazs

We talked about it on the Nosh Show and I was very curious how Trio was going to work. H-D was nice enough to tweet back and verify this is how it will look. I've looked at this picture several times and it still blows my mind (I do love an epic crunch factor). I wish I could convince H-D to give me a tour of the machine that packs these containers!

Salted Caramel Chocolate is layers crispy chocolate and  salted caramel & chocolate ice creams - reviewed here

Those are the four Trio flavors coming out this year. We actually scoured a couple of Providence grocery stores this morning to make sure that they hadn't gotten it before my area did. Are you as excited for these as I am?

Thanks to Patrick for pointing out that the H-D website just updated. It looks like we've got three new ice cream bars on the way in a packaging that is kind of similar to the Trio packaging. Two of these look delicious, and the third one I will probably never try but I'm sure some of you will thoroughly enjoy.

White Chocolate Raspberry ice cream bar is "white chocolate ice cream with swirls of tart raspberry is dipped in milk chocolate and then sprinkled with dark chocolate" -- (I've sampled this and it reminds me a bit of a raspberry danish)

Vanilla Dark Chocolate Cookie ice cream bar is "vanilla ice cream bar infused with a cookie crunch then immersed in dark chocolate and garnished with waffle cookie pieces" -- (review here)

Coconut Dark Chocolate Caramel ice cream bar is "coconut ice cream and ribbons of rich caramel draped in dark chocolate and finished with flakes of toasted coconut"

And someone else has pointed out some of the new ice cream "pint" flavors that are available.

espresso chocolate cookie crumble is coffee ice cream swirled with cookie crumbles and sprinkled with chocolate espresso flakes -- Nick review here

toasted coconut caramel is swirls of dulce de leche caramel and toasted coconut flakes in coconut ice cream.

bourbon praline pecan is bourbon ice cream infused with brown sugar bourbon swirls and the praline pecans.

Apparently none of these flavors is meant for me to try. Question: how do you feel about the new pint design? When you put them side by side, it's easier to notice that the backgrounds are not identical. And more importantly, which one will you grab first?

One more that was added later: Peanut Butter Salted Fudge is salted fudge and the crunch of chocolate covered peanuts blend with smooth peanut butter ice cream -- I reviewed it here and it's excellent, big fan of this one.

Chick-fil-A Cookies & Cream Milkshake

I'm still scouring the store shelves for new B&J's, H-D Trio, and even Hostess ice creams that are headed for convenience stores (and Dollar General), but we need to keep rolling for now. Chick-fil-A has slowly been expanding in my area and I finally decided to try them out for lunch. I know that I'm not breaking any new ground here, though I do wonder how many of you stop there from time to time. The fact they cook everything in peanut oil has always made me nervous but unlike 5 Guys or Texas Roadhouse, at least their locations aren't covered in peanut shells.

Cereal, Waffles, Cookies and the Nosh Show Ep 97

Hello Nosh Show Listeners! It's days like today that let me do some generic junk food blogging instead of the specific frozen stuff we usually cover. Everything in this first picture we talked about on the show, but I've got a few other things that I would like to recommend after the break!

Random Post: FDA Serving Size Changes

You remember last year how the FDA said that changes were coming to the nutrition label? I remember it happening but I didn't exactly go scouring the FDA announcement to dive deep in the specifics of it all. Basically I've just been waiting for the changes to kick like everyone else. As the title of this posts suggest though, there is something else that is changing.

As you can see, serving sizes are going to become more realistic. I like to think that I've been a long term proponent of pacing yourself while eating ice cream, but getting 4 servings from a pint is a pretty hard thing for me to do. Yes there are times when I inhale a pint in two servings (made easier if it's regular ice cream and not heavier, super premium ice cream), but I really do think 3 is a fair number for a pint. So instead of a review today, I will ask a simple question: how many servings do you get from a pint? or a quart if that's your thing? do you approve of the FDA's changes? or is it just really boring waiting for the 2017 ice cream season to start?

Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Cherry Garcia Ice Cream

[Announced late 2016] For 2016, Ben & Jerry's created three flavor flips. The first two were Totally Baked and Tubby Hubby, both exclusive to scoop shoppes, but they added a pint version to the third flavor. Well, it's January now and I finally found...

Yuengling's Butter Pecan Ice Cream

[New for 2016] This is the last of the four new Yuengling's flavors that debuted for 2016. I don't know why it took so long to pop up in my area, and yes this is something Nick usually reviews, but I'm hungry and it's either this or Gifford's Power Play Fudge ice cream (announcement here).

Stewart's Shops Oatmeal Cranberry Cookie Ice Cream

[By Nick] It seems like oatmeal cookies are finally getting some love in the ice cream world. After Ben & Jerry's killing off Oatmeal Cookie Chunk, the market was pretty barren in the oatmeal depart. In the past couple of years, Hershey's and Talenti both put out there own respectable options. Now there's a limited time option perfect for winter time out in the ice cream world.

Ben & Jerry's Brewed to Matter Ice Cream

[By Nick, Target Exclusive] It's a new year and I'm going to attempt to return to the old me. While I won't be doing multiple reviews per week for all of you to enjoy, I'm going to try to get at least one review in per week. Let's start this streak with a Target exclusive that has eluded me for the past year and a half.

Feel the (freezer) burn

I'm sorry but tonight's review has been cancelled due to incompetence. Ok, that sounds mean but I'm just frustrated that I finally spent $7 on a container of Alden's organic ice cream to review only to bring home the most freezer burned product I have ever had the misfortune of tasting. It's just foul. I have no idea how many temp cycles something would have to go through to get this bad. If you dig to the heart of the 1.5qt container, it's slightly better, but still basically inedible. I never return ice cream but for $7 I think I might have too.

Now I still love market basket and all, but the abuse their ice cream suffers and their overall lack of selection has driven me back into the arms of price chopper for a fair amount of my shopping. For the most part, Market Basket only carries less dense mainstream ice cream and it's just no match for people constantly opening and closing the freezers. Oh, speaking of that, can I rant?

For the love of all that is special and fresh, can we all agree to pick our flavor with the ice cream door closed? I can't tell you how often I see someone with the door jacked open as they pick up each and every flavor. Ahhhh, it drives me nuts. If you need to read labels (which I do too), you pull out the product, close the door, read, then put it back. Or, if there is three or four pints or quarts of the same thing next to each other, just flip one of them around, close the door, and read it through the door.  Ok, somewhere a grocery store employee is cursing me going "oh, you're the jerk who leaves all the boxes backward on the shelf!". Hey, I flip them back for the most part.

Anyway, I shall return soon enough. We've already got word of Ben & Jerry's "Truffle Kerfuffle" and "Urban Bourbon" thanks to Candy Hunting, as well as Hostess Snoball frozen dairy dessert bars. Also, Jeffrey our Canadian buddy happened to go to DQ today and noticed that they've added two new royal brownie blizzards to the menu (and ditched the rocky road one). He tried the one with Reese's and was disappointed unfortunately.

Actually, I have one more to share. Popsicle has made Star Wars popsicles! Despite Rogue One being in theatres, the box rocks an episode 7 design. They've used their sour patch kids tech to make these ones look like light sabers.

If you see something new, let me know. If you want to vent about freezer burn or your fellow shoppers, go for it. And lastly, if you've had Alden's before, share your thoughts with us!

Harvey's Black Forest Cake Milkshake

[By Jeffrey, New for Canada for January 2017] When it comes to fast food, Canada has the same big players as the US (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, etc) but we also have one uniquely Canadian fast food burger chain, Harvey's. You order your food, then top it, Subway-style, with your choice of about 30 different ingredients. In the past few years, they've really added to their menu with unique limited edition items such as a Pizza Burger, nacho cheese sticks, and...
