Edy's Washington Apple Pie Ice Cream

[New for early 2016] I haven't had the urge to try any more of the new slow churned Edy's (Dreyer's) state inspired flavors but Cumberland Farms amazing apple pie ice cream had such an amazing flavor that I think I'm finally ready to dig in to....

Edy's Slow Churned Washington Apple Pie Ice Cream
cinnamon light ice cream with 100% washington apples and pie pieces

Little bit of apple or cinnamon apple smell. You can see apple bits and crust bits.

Not a ton of mix-ins, but this is a slow churned flavor which always seem to have less anyway.

I've eaten most of my serving and all I can say is meh. It's nothing to write home about. It's light on the flavor and the apple has a bit of a weird lingering to it. The crust pieces aren't terribly exciting either. Tie that all together with Edy's typical so-so slow churned texture and this one is a meh.

I don't hate it and I won't waste it. I'll see how it does in some various breakfast sundaes but I don't see people racing to pick this up unless they are searching specifically for an apple flavor. Maybe Breyer's version will make a comeback this year because I have better memories of that one and it's cinnamon swirl.

On Second Scoop: I have a great analogy for this ice cream. I love apple juice. We go through tons of it in my house. It's a great simple drink from someone like Mott's. This is is not Mott's ice cream. This is like when you are desperate to grab a juice from the convenience store and all they have is Minute Maid. Yes, technically it's still apple juice, but it tastes nothing like Mott's. This ice cream is the minute maid version of apple flavor.

Verdict?  meh
Buy Again?  unlikely

  1. I guess I'm not too bummed my ShopRite doesn't carry this flavor, or really this brand anymore. I yearn for my childhood when Edy's was awesome and made their Autumn Apple Pie flavor. I email them usually once a year telling them to bring it back :(

  2. That's sad. The description made this flavor sound really exciting, imo.
