Turkey Hill All Natural Raspberry Ice Cream

Note: there is a chocolate chip version debuting in 2017.

[New/Limited for 2013] Five years everyone... it's been almost five years since I first asked Turkey Hill to make me an all natural black raspberry ice cream. Well, my wish has finally come true... more or less anyway. Sure it's just "raspberry", and it's just a limited edition flavor that's only around for the summer, but I'll take it. In fact, I've been waiting for this day for so long that I'm almost a little afraid to open the container.

Here it is, the all natural Turkey Hill Raspberry ice cream that is scheduled as the June, July, & August limited edition flavor on their limited edition calendar.

Check out the ingredient list! So simple, the way ice cream should be.

Opened and awaiting your approval. I zoomed in because of some shadow issues one the photo, but this way you can see that it's a light purple color with bits of raspberries all over the place. I take a whiff but I don't detect much. Hmmmm, what's in store?

Well this photo doesn't do it justice, but this is a really nice ice cream. The flavor is mild and pleasant. Not too tart, not too sweet, just a lazy day summer flavor. So simple, but that's not a bad thing. What's wrong with the classics? Why must we obsess with the latest mix-in craze? A tame flavor like this doesn't need crunch, or sizzle, or swirl, it needs to remind you to slow down, take a breath, and then take another small bite.

Yeah, it's good. Nice simple texture. Not icy or gritty or gummy or chewy, but simple. It's melting a bit so with a flavor like this, I love to grab a scoop of ice cream and then get a bit of melted ice cream on the spoon as well, and just let the flavor encompass your taste buds. Don't rush. Don't dig. Don't panic. Just chill. Tomorrow is another day my friends, and right now, it's time to just turn it all off.

On Second Scoop:  Ok, I've had this ice cream several times now including the pretzel cone you see above and this breakfast sundae. It's just a nice simple flavor. Yeah, there will be those disappointed that the flavor isn't stronger, even my wife mentioned how mild it is because we're so use to the sweeter and more flavorful Friendly's Black Raspberry ice cream, but I still really like this one. It's just a nice blend of all natural and tasty. Hey, they can keep it the same or they can turn the flavor up a bit next year, either way, just bring this one back!

2016 Update: this basically made a return as blackberry swirl.

Verdict?  Nice
Buy Again?  Yup!

  1. While it looks like Black Raspberry, they only call it Raspberry*...as indicated on the photo.

  2. Have you had Friendlys black raspberry? I am usually able to find it for two bucks or less, and the flavor and texture is clean and smooth. I would be curious to see how it compares to this in a blind taste test
