Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle

[2021 Update] Haagen-Dazs revamped their pint design this year so I thought I would take a moment to point out that this one is still quite tasty. It continues to be a nice change of (flavor) pace from what else is out there right now. This is rare to say, but you may even find yourself ask "are there too many truffles in here?" Original review after the break.

Edy's / Dreyer's Holiday Flavor Extravaganza with Peppermint, Egg Nog, and Hot Cocoa

Greetings, and welcome to our Edy's (Dreyer's) limited edition, holiday flavor (did I mention we have free coupons?) extravaganza! I know, I'm a little late and big apologies to Edy's. I've known my wife for a long time and this is by far the craziest December we've ever shared. Oh well, you don't want to hear about my troubles because it's Christmas break for a lot of you out there, so it's time to relax and enjoy (and be glad the month is over). Now we are at the very beginning of that blizzard that has been ransacking the country, so now seems like a great time to break out three containers of ice cream --- mainly because we can't do anything else --- no, that's not fair, there is a house full of toys, books, games, dvds, so there is plenty to do, but I'm hungry!!

Here they are! Three fresh pints straight from Edy's. We've got Hot Cocoa, Egg Nog, and Peppermint. Now I tried Hot Cocoa last December, I only rarely try mint things, and to be honest, I'm afraid of eggnog, hehehehe. My wife loves eggnog and always gets a half gallon at Christmas, but I never drink any.... strike that, I just tried a few sips of her Hood "golden" egg nog... ewww, not a big fan. I want to say it's overpoweringly sweet and it almost reminds of a super liquidy cake batter or maybe even cake batter ice cream. Ewww, she can finish that herself. I hope the ice cream is better!

Blue Bunny Season Selections
Christmas Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches

I just had a terrible thought, am I about to talk about a product that could be out of production already? I mean, I just saw it at the store for the first time less than two weeks ago, but considering it's called Christmas Cookie, and considering that marketing companies deem Christmas unwanted as soon as we actually celebrate it, well....

I don't know about you, but I was both excited and frightened when I saw this box. I was happy because I saw sugar cookies, but then I was sad because the ice cream sandwich looks like some bizarre freaky fruitcake funk-a-dunk foo foo treaty treat.... I picked up the box and it said to me "I'm a sugar cookie flavored light ice cream with colorful christmas tree sprinkles between two vanilla flavored wafers". Hmmm, that sounds pretty good, and blue bunny definitely has a history of making some interesting ice cream sandwiches. Now I will admit that the box blue bunny seasonal selections HOT COCOA ice cream sandwiches right next to this box was also talking to me, but unfortunately I only had one blue bunny coupon with me. Ok, we're going with cookies this time, but I will be back!

Kemp's Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

Grrr, we are backlogged again, so get ready for the worst reviews ever! YEAH for laziness!!

I said I wasnt going to eat Kemp's frozen yogurt anymore, but man I am hungry and I am like +11 pounds so I gotta find something to cure my ice cream cramps. So, I decided to pick up the very low fat Kemps strawberry frozen yogurt. The great thing about strawberry is that even though few get it right, overall it's pretty hard to mess up.

Merry Christmas everybody!

It just wouldn't be Christmas on the blog if I didnt post my usual strawberry ice cream between two Pillsbury sugar cookies. (ok, ok, technically it's strawberry frozen yogurt, but it's all I had)

Anyway, Frosty will be greeting Santa this year. Hope everyone has a great holiday!

Froyo Shaker and the Deathly Hallows (Part I)

Greetings everybody! The wife and I finally made it out to a movie today! I know, small miracles do happen (it's been 8 months). The cable tech came early and put the cable card in our new tivo premier (which picks up some channels but not all of them, but that's not important right now). Once that debacle was put on hold, we headed to the theatre and wondered what kind of lunch we could fit in before the movie. Well, time is short, so we decided to try to sneak in a little cold stone creamery action before the show... oh geez, the movie starts at 12, the same time that cold stone opens. Bummer, back into the theatre we go. I guess we're getting Ben & Jerry's instead.

We pick up our tickets, pick up some popcorn, and then head over to the Ben & Jerry's counter for some milkshakes. My wife decides to try a cookie dough milkshake but I've got an idea I need to mull over. You see, I had to decide I was willing to waste $5.75 on a milkshake made of half baked froyo rather than on another awesome milk & cookies milkshake like I had last time.

Well, this is a blog about trying new things, so to potentially save you six bucks, I gave it a try. Ok, there is a second reason too, and that would be the health benefits. I don't know how many actual ice cream servings are in a Ben & Jerry's shake, I'd say at least two, but for each serving we are talking 270cals (140 from fat) vs 180cals (a mere 25 from fat). That's a big difference in fat calories, and if you worry about saturated fat like I try to do, we are talking a whopping 7g to 1.5g. That's some major health benefits there, so let's see how it tastes.

We head into the theater with a half dozen other couples (no kids, as it is a school day after all). My shake is pretty much done before the previews end because it's pretty darn good. No, it's not the super thick rich solidness of a super premium milkshake, but it's still good.  Overall the half baked froyo has turned into a respectable chocolate shake with some brownie bits jamming my straw now and then. It definitely tastes better than some faux shake from a fast food joint. So, if you want to splurge with money but not your calories, give a froyo shake a try!   ---oh, my wife's shake was ok, but overall she didn't really like how the cookie dough flavor came across.

I shall cast the mighty spell  Icecream SCOOPUPUS!
(yeah, sounded funnier in my head)

As far as the movie goes (incase the title didnt give it away), we went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. We wanted to see Tron: Legacy, but it wouldn't have given us enough time to get our daughter from school. Anyway, I don't think we've see Harry Potter in the theatre since.... iunno, the 3rd one maybe? Somewhere along the line we just started watching them on tv, which is also the point where they all just started blurring together. Look, there's a reason most movies don't have 7 sequels behind it. That being said, we both enjoyed the film. Sure, it could have been a little quicker, but it was fairly dark, fairly mature, and kept things moving. It definitely had the feel of a movie that was attempting to keep it tight and preparing to wrap things up. Everyone does well with their part as always, and there is minimal whining from any of the characters. I think they even did a pretty good job of picking a place to end the movie. My favorite part? I think I may have actually been most impressed by the scene where they tell the tale of the deathly hallows which was this very cool looking cartoon/cgi thing that added in a neat little break to the movie. So if you were thinking about checking this film out, I say go for it.

Stuff for your Christmas Holiday Feast
New Finds from Jon Donaire

Now I don't know if any of these cakes are "new" in general, but they are new too me. I haven't wandered over to the frozen cake freezer at Wal-mart in awhile, but I did Thursday night and boy was it hard not to grab one of these ultra tasty looking cakes.

There were at least 3 new Amazin' Mouthfuls jam-packed ice cream cakes in front of me, unfortunately I only snapped a pic of two of them. On the right is Strawberry Cheesecake which is creamy cheesecake flavored ice cream swirled with strawberry puree, on a graham crust, topped with strawberry puree, cheesecake morsels and whipped topping. I like the seemingly excessive looking use of the strawberry puree. The other is Butter Pecan. I may be crazy but I'm pretty sure the butter pecan is smiling at us. The description is creamy butter pecan ice cream swirled with caramel and praline pecans, on a graham crust, topped with whipped topping, praline pecans and caramel drizzle. (oh I wish I could remember the third one, maybe it was turtle)

Ok, these two were REALLY hard to resist. Jon Donaire now offers up something they call moussecake, and as I learned as a small child, mousse is one of my very favorite words. Heck, I'm pretty sure I can remember the very first time I had chocolate mousse! in fact, I'm pretty sure I went back for seconds! (Oh I love dessert buffets). Sorry, getting sidetracked here.

Ya got me, technically these aren't ice cream, but they are frozen, and they do look fantastic. I guess I would probably try the Chocolate Moussecake first, and then move on the Oreo Cookie Moussecake. Hmmm, I think I need to find Jon Donaire's marketing company and get all these wonderful looking treats up on the blog.

Raspberry Hood Sherbet

As I sat there in my chair, slowly eating my sherbet and slowly working my way through the Karate Kid remake, I had an ephiphany. No, not about the movie (we can get to that later), I mean about the sherbet. First, let's talk about my inspiration.

I will forever mourn the loss of my Hola Fruta supply. In a pinch, I will pick up whatever I can find. In this case, it's one of Hood's simple plastic raspberry sherbert containers. Notice the words "artificial flavor and color added". Oh boy....

Cracking open the oven!
Dubba's Grasshopper Cupcakes

I don't know about you, but Saturdays are very tough for me. As a kid, Saturdays were fun days. You wake up late, you watch cartoons, you play all day, you have leftover pizza for lunch, everything was great. No worries, no troubles, just fun fun fun. Now as a parent, Saturdays are a battle between wanting to relax and knowing that there is a week's worth of chores to catch up on. So to all my fellow parents, people working two jobs (or students who are also working), or just anyone is tired, let me say that it's time to do some "relaxing" cooking. As an added incentive to get myself in the kitchen, a buddy of mine was taunting us all with the 9 different kinds of cookies he baked the other day. Let's see if we can't do a little taunting of our own.

Ok, let's do background first. I forget what I was looking for, but I stumbled upon the blog of someone who had recently visited Crumbs Bake Shop. If you haven't seen their stuff, check out their cupcake menu. I think what most fascinates me is the clever idea of rolling the edge of the cupcake in some kind of topping. I guess I haven't been keeping up with cooking trends but this seems like pure genius. Now the blog I read was talking about grasshopper cupcakes, and for whatever reason, I felt the urge to try and make them... about two months ago. Yeah, I'm a little behind. Anyway, we have to bring a dessert to a party tonight, so it's time to finally crack open the over. Man, it's been way too long!!

The basic idea of the cupcake is chocolate and mint. Ok, but how do we make it look super fancy schmancy? Crumbs Bake Shop does have filling in many of their cupcakes, but I didn't realize that 'til just now, so we're going to skip that part. Actually, let me just show you what I've got for ingredients.

Now as you can see, I am taking my cupcake challenge very seriously. Let's do a quick run down of some sticking points. 1) I was confused about whether to get peppermint extract or mint extract (which is spearmint chased with peppermint). 2) I was originally going to use the mini toppers as my outer ring, but then I got the great idea to use some kind of chocolatey graham-like substance.  3) I almost got chocolate graham cracker instead of Oreo, but the Oreo was lower in saturated fat. 4) "Limited Edition" dark chocolate and mint nestle morsels. I've never had these before.

We start with the basics by mixing up the cupcake batter. I then decided to that I'm only going to mix in the mint chips for now. I pour the mix into 2x12 cupcake trays and then have my daughter stick a group of dark chocolate chips in the center of each cupcake. I have no idea if this will work, but there is only one way to find out. We've got an electric over, so in they go for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

Here are the cupcakes, fresh out of the oven. Now let me take a quick sec to mention the brainstorm my wife had. Notice how the middle row on the right seems shorter than all the others? Well I was talking to my wife and went "I wonder if you could stick like a graham cracker base at the bottom of a cupcake?" and she thought that might be a bit messy BUT she then had a a great idea ten minutes later. She pulled some girl scout thin mints out of the freezer yesterday so why not put those at the bottoms of the cupcakes? Oh, I like this idea, but I'm a little afraid. I put one at the bottom of the cupcake wrapper and realize it's smaller than the cup. Good news because that means the cupcake can bake around it on the edges and I don't have to worry about it falling apart! It's a crazy idea, so I only made four like that, but physically it worked really well and I may mess with this idea again in the future.

Ok, time's running out and I need to get these cupcakes frosted for the party. I put half of my store bought frosting into a bowl, added four or five drops of food coloring, and then almost had a massive disaster with the mint extract. Let's just say the frosting to mint ratio could have gotten pretty ugly. It didn't take much mint for the whole house to start smelling like a stick of gum. My daughter was unamused, but thankfully a few drops may have smelled like alot, but the flavor was still pretty mild.

Now this probably looks like my usual ice cream bowl, but it's actually a big serving bowl so that I'd have plenty of room to dunk the cupcake in. Like I said, I was originally going to use mini morsels on the edge, but instead I went with these crushed Oreo crumbs. I took the Oreo crust, folded the aluminum pie plate so it broke into pieces, dumped it into this bowl, and then let my daughter have fun breaking it back down into it's crumby components. You know what the best part is? The frosted cupcakes roll effortlessly through the crumbs. I cant believe just how easy this is, or how cool the cupcakes look afterward!

Not to toot my own horn, but I'm really proud of how awesome looking these came out (at least for my first time anyway!). This could very well be the first time I've made cupcakes in 2010, and I pulled out several tricks to try to take my game up a notch. The white is plan vanilla frosting. The green is the mint frosting (with a little piped squish on the top to be fancy), and then the two in the middle are some of the ones with girl scout cookies on the bottom. Now if I only had some high falutin' party to go too... instead I'm heading to a party full of elementary school children. Hmmmm, I may have tried a little too hard.

And now it's time for a warning, also know as a bit of honesty. You know that mint chip idea of mine? yeah, well, it didn't go as planned. Instead of the base cupcake having a nice mint secondary flavor, or even having spots of mint, well, it has this weird earthy flavor and not much mint. I guess this is the part where I learn that chips and morsels sink and don't float. What has happened is that there is this funk of creme de menthe without the mint flavor (almost coffee like). Next time I will just add a few drops of mint to the base and then chop up the mint chips and sprinkle them on top (maybe). The good news is that the frosting helps balance out that earthy funk. I decided to leave some vanilla incase people weren't in the mood for mint.

As far as the thin mint cupcakes go? well, pure genius really! hehehehe, but seriously, I could definitely see tweaking this recipe and leaving in those thin mints. I'm always a big fan of contrasting textures, so the soft cupcake with the crunch of the cookie was pretty neat in my book.

Even though this took about 3 hours, it was still fun. There's just a nice feeling of satisfaction when you lay out some impressive looking cupcakes, even if no one else appreciates them... ok, technically it would have been really nice for someone to say "wow, nice cupcakes!" but hey, it is what it is.

Thanks for listening. I'll be back tomorrow, we have a whole lot of ice cream that we need to talk about!

Update: In case I didn't make it abundantly clear, my wife's idea to throw the cookie on the bottom worked out really well. I just finished off the last thin mint cupcake and I really enjoyed it.

New to me! Cold Stone Creamery Candies by Turin

Hey, I have to share what I spotted over at Target. I ran over during my lunch break and I needed to pick up a few things in Christmas candy section. The one side of the aisle is your typical bags of reeses, snickers, hersheys etc, but the other side is the more "sophisticated" stuff like Ghiradelli and whatnot. Well, what do I spy near the bottom but some rather large hexagon-ish boxes with pictures of ice cream on them.

Check out Cold Stone Creamery Flavor filled chocolates! There were about 8 boxes of "Chocolate Devotion & Our Strawberry Blonde" and just one box left of "Birthday Cake Remix". Actually, I didn't even notice that the one box was half and half. Now this is the first time that I've ever seen these, but according to the press release, they were announced two years ago (Nov '08). They mention that these are technically available year round and can also be found in the flavors "Coffee Lovers Only", "Chocolate Devotion", and "Peanut Butter Cup Perfection".

Oh geez, they are also available as a Valentine's Gift Box. Wow, they are even available as candy bars. You can see all that is available here. There's no reviews for the chocolate on amazon, but if you've had these, please let us all know how they are (and if you work for cold stone or turin, feel free to send over some samples!)

Note: If you go to Turin's website (they are out of Mexico), you can see ice cream truffle collection sans Cold Stone branding. Not picking, I just always get a kick out of that stuff.

Wrap Up Time (cause I'm in the mood)

Someday I'll learn to turn the TV on AFTER I want to post, hehehehe. Actually, I did that for the longest time, but I'm trying to kick back and type at the same time.... ok, I'll admit it, I'm watching the Sing Off. I predict a finale between Street Corner Symphony and Committed, but hey, that's just my opinion (oh my, I just didn't just see what I think I saw did I? oh I did)

Ok, let's focus here, we're talking food here... man, Committed is talented... but the judges expected more, hmmm, anyway, sorry, food talk.

I can't believe I haven't really talked about Christmas yet. Maybe it's because we had a little debacle with the Christmas tree, but that's a long story. Anyway, I just want to say "I LOVE CHRISTMAS COOKIES!" hehehe, sorry, our daughter has this book and if you push the button at the end of each page, it yells "I LOVE CHRISTMAS COOKIES!". Now I usually have a few bags of Stouffers Christmas cookies, but when we were at Shaws the other night, they had a big table full of Christmas Cookies from Lofthouse Cookies (out of Utah). These things are fantastic. You know the best part?

Now I don't have a scientific study to prove it, but I'm pretty sure that smiling cookies always taste better than other kinds of cookies. We got colors, we got sprinkles, and we have one tasty smilin' snowman. Pick these up if you see 'em. I'm going to try not to eat them myself since they are suppose to be for my daughter.

So, you don't go to Whole Foods for the usual foods, and their checkout lane is no different. Sure, I usually ignore it, but they had to do a cashier swap, so I looked around and spied two things. The first thing I noticed was...

Glee Gum! No relation to the show, but it is all natural gum, you know, like it was when I was a kid (gum = gum + sugar + mint). So for 99 cents I couldn't resist). I cracked open the container and boy are these things small. I pop one and start chewing. I read the box and apparently I'm suppose to be chewing two pieces. Well, bad news. First, this is natural gum, really hard natural gum. Second, the mint flavor lasts all of 3 minutes. I even tried chewing three pieces and that didn't help. Oh well, guess that's why we eat un-natural gum nowadays.

Oh wait, before I continue, I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Now you know I love dairy, and I love crunchy, so it shouldn't surprise you that I love dipping good crunchy oatmeal cookies in ice cold milk. Now I have no idea why I never ever thought of this, or if I did, why I didn't try it, BUT here it is: Have you ever dipped oatmeal cookies in chocolate milk? I tried it and it was excellent! I don't know if I would do this every time, but I definitely won't fear this combo in the future.

Ok, one more find for you, and to be honest, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this. Now it's been so long I don't remember specifics, but I have found this wacky little candy from my childhood.

Here they are! It's been decades since I've seen these little things. We spent a lot of time in the car as kids, and I can just barely remember this little tin of raspberry candies that I had to keep my sugar level up. I've had a few and they taste just like I  remember. Wow, I can't tell you how weird this is for me. You know, I spent most of my time eating penny candy from the local farmer's market, so I've been trying to remember how these things worked their way into my life, but they did. Ahhh, good times, I had to share!

Q-Bees Brown-ees
How could I resist?

As I sit here enjoying a nice fresh back of marshmallow oaties, I need to tell you about our fun trip to Whole Foods today (mmmm, oh I adore this cereal, it's like lucky charms before it got bitten by artificial colors, preservatives, and flavors). I won't keep you in suspense, so let me show you what we found.

OH YAY!!! You have to have a steel fortitude to walk by this treat and not wonder how amazingly awesome it must be! Just to taunt us, there was just ** 1 ** box left! You know what the great news is? I'm about to save you $4.99.

State of the Freezer?
Empty, yet still in Total Chaos

Greetings from my reclining chair... in the middle of the afternoon! "Lucky" for me I am home today. UNLUCKY for me it's a sick day. I've already been watching tv for six hours which is pretty much something I only get to do on sick days. Sure I could probably sneak in a TV day now and then, but after about two hours I think about everything that needs to get done and I wander off. So, I feel I should take a typing break, and since I can't seem to spit out the state of the freezer address, well, what better time to do it then when I'm stuck in somewhat comfortable chair. (and yes, the tv is off, otherwise I'll watch yet another movie --- Pitch Black is on AMC at the moment).

So why am I having trouble with the state of the freezer? Or the better question is, why am I having so much trouble blogging right now. Well, I don't know what happened exactly. Well life happened really. Life has gotten pretty hectic nowadays but I was trying to keep it from damaging my blogging. See, this blog was always meant to be a hobby. I needed something new to do some two and a half years ago and I decided to try this whole blogging thing. Now I was stumbling a bit when I got several ideas of how to make the blog better, but rather than sorting them all out, they all just kind of crashed into each other and blocked the roadway of progression here for me. That's when I let open the previous poll question.

Selfish Poll Question..........
Why WONT you come back to the blog? 59 total votes

bad opinions : 4 (6%)

bad writing : 12 (20%)

limited topic : 19 (32%)

reviews not robust : 12 (20%)

need 2nd opinion : 7 (11%)

i hate ice cream : 5 (8%)

I expected the "bad writing" and "reviews not robust" from anyone who landed on an older review. "I hate ice cream" was meant to be a joke ofcourse. I even expected some votes for "bad opinions" (though I appreciate this only getting four votes). I guess what "shocked" me most was the limited topic coming in as the biggest response. I understand my topics are limited, and I know I've been slacking with toppings and extras, but it was poignant none the less. I know the blog is limited, but iunno, the poll just made me realize how much i've been slacking on keeping the blog diverse.

No one ever said generating traffic is easy. The problem is it's keywords like "Ben & Jerry's" that bring people in, but it's the diversity (like my awful ice cream making ability) that spices things up. You know, I do tend to try new products from time to time, but when I do, I just cant seem to get them posted. Sure I got the Snyder's chocolate covered pretzels up, but then I tried the Trader Joe's dark chocolate version and I never mentioned those (they were fattier, saltier, and kept giving me heartburn). Sorry, it's not like you can free up my schedule for me.

So for now, you may notice a slower pace to posting, 2-3 a week instead of 4-5. I really need to step back and analyze my current tastes. I'm definitely worried that I've become spoiled. This blog has encouraged a crazy eating pattern -- one that has caught up with me ever since my trip to Ben & Jerry's.

Ok, my mind is wandering off and the tv is back on...   hmmm, i should do something productive, well, as productive as one can be at the moment. So what does everyone think about setting up a facebook account for the site? Would that make it a little easier to interact? I tried messing with twitter but I will admit that I've been slacking on that too.

Alright, I'm off. Hopefully we can  do the Edy's Holiday Extravaganza this weekend (that's three holiday limited flavors plus some coupons to share with everyone). Stay Tuned!

DOH!!! I forgot to actually talk about the freezer. Well, I've tossed a bunch of stuff out that had expired. It's weird to see the deep freezer so clean. In fact I'm actually tempted to shut it down and save a few bucks on electricity. I also tossed my "snack box". Iunno, it was empty, over two years old, and it seemed like a good time to do it. To reiterate, I'm going to try to keep things a little simpler here. I buy an ice cream, I finish it, and then I move on. No more half dozen pints in the freezer. No 3-4 "half gallons" in the freezer. So, a little more calculating, a bit more focused and a lot less wasteful..

It's National Brownie Day!
Celebrating with Edy's Double Fudge Brownie

Oh boy! December 9 is national brownie day. That's right, it's yet another "national" (as in fake) food holiday. Greystone Bakery was celebrating with a 30% off sale, so I decided to do a little celebrating myself by heading to the grocery store to find something appropriate. The most practical solution I found was a snack cup of Edy's ( Dreyer's ) Double Fudge Brownie Fun Flavor. Remember, "fun flavor" = frozen dairy dessert = not actually ice cream. Ok, I'm hungry, so let's get started!

Our Very First Trip to Sonic!

That's right, we finally made it to Sonic! I know it was July, but remember the Sonic prizes I got to hand out? Well, included in all the wonderful hub bub was a gift card for me too, problem was, there's only one in the state, and it's well over an hour away.

It's kinda busy, but not crazy busy. It's probably a good time to point out you have 3 choices. 1 - you can pull into a bay. 2 - there is actually a covered place with a bunch of tables where you can sit (there is a menu in the middle for all to share). 3 - there is also a drive thru. (there is no indoor seating, but yes, there are bathrooms). We went with #1 to get the full Sonic drive-in experience

Quick Breyers YoCrunch Fruit Parfait Update

greetings all. do you remember in my first yocrunch fruit parfait review, I mentioned that I liked the treats but felt that the fruit to yogurt ratio wasn't as sweet as it could be? Well, guess what I've seen at WalMart (and only Walmart)?

new bigger treat on left, original size on the right

Now it's not only a worthy size snack, but we are talking a way better ratio now. It's not crazy sweet, but I definitely prefer the full size treat. My only complaint now is that it's a dollar, and that's at Walmart. If these show up anywhere else, they are likely to be a buck twenty-five if not a buck fifty.

So if you haven't tried these yet because you weren't sure, go try the big version!

"NEW & IMPROVED" Edy's Slow Churned Snack Cups

I'm not sure when it started, but Edy's 5.8 fl oz snack cups are now labeled with a red and yellow "NEW & IMPROVED!" tag on them. I decided to go with chocolate chip because, well, I guess I'm trying to relearn some appreciation for the basics.

So, here we go. Break the seal and dig in!
