Stewart's Eggnog Ice Cream

[By Nick] It's that time of the year again, when eggnog ice cream becomes a staple in a lot of companies offerings. Surprisingly, Stewart's doesn't have an eggnog ice cream. Well, they didn't until this year anyway. I say surprisingly because they offer their eggnog year round and are very proud of it. Their eggnog was the first actual eggnog I ever tried and it was pretty awesome. I'm hoping this excellence translates to their new ice cream offering.

McDonald's Eggnog Shake

I'll admit it, I kind of feel like a heel for trying the new** McDonald's shake. I mean, eggnog isn't my thing, it's my wife's thing, but, well, I wanted to post about something today.

McDonald's Eggnog Shake

Anyway, I had this shake on this wonderful sunny day and it's not bad. It tastes exactly as you would expect a McDonald's eggnog shake to taste. It's not too strong, nothing offensive going on, and their standard lightweight shake texture to boot. It's distinctly eggnog but stays fairly mellow and reasonable. That's really all there is to it. So, are you interested?

**Note: I would have bet you money that the commercial for this said it was new. And while I want to say it didn't seem new, I went with what I thought I heard. Well, It's not even remotely new. Like, they were advertising it way back in 1988! Sorry for not doing more research before posting.

Perry's Escapes French Toast Ice Cream

[Only for 2015] Are you a fan of Perry's ice creams? Do you ever wish you could take home some of their scoop shop only flavors? Well, this year Perry's has released -20- new pints and quarts in their Escapes line up and they've sent Nick and I a nice selection of them to try. Now not all of them are scoop shop inspired though, some are brand new like...

Gelato Fiasco Spiked Eggnog Gelato

[By Nick, left after 2015] Time to give my uneducated opinion on another eggnog flavor! Not only that, this one is mixed with alcohol. We all know I'm not too familiar with alcoholic products but I have encountered both marsala and bourbon in other products so let's see how this goes.

It's laced with just a splash of marsala and bourbon to keep it real."

Turkey Hill Egg Nog Ice Cream

So I bought this for two reasons: one, it's never been on the blog and two: I totally lost that Turkey Hill limited edition contest I was having with Nick. Well, technically there is a third reason: I'm hoping my wife will eat it this for me because I totally don't like eggnog.

Talenti Old World Eggnog Gelato (#17)

[By Nick, Seasonal] Hi my name is Nick and I hate the holidays. I also hate the fact that companies are putting out so many holiday products before Thanksgiving has even happened. I mean, I was seeing candy canes and fruit cake before Halloween even happened.

So with reluctance, I picked up Talenti Old World Eggnog Gelato.

Graeter's Cinnamon Ice Cream
and Graeter's Egg Nog Ice Cream

Ok, so hopefully you saw the first few hurricane pints we opened, but in case the power went out (which it did, but only for a moment), I wanted to crack open the holiday Graeter's before I missed my opportunity to try them. So, may I happily introduce the following two pints generously sent over by Graeter's.

Behold, the rare sounding Cinnamon ice cream and the rare looking Egg Nog ice cream. I say rare looking because the pint doesn't even have an official design, it's just a generic pint with a sticker up top (no complaints since in this case it just makes it seem that more special). Now I expect to love the cinnamon and not love the egg nog, but let's dig in.

Edy's / Dreyer's Holiday Flavor Extravaganza with Peppermint, Egg Nog, and Hot Cocoa

Greetings, and welcome to our Edy's (Dreyer's) limited edition, holiday flavor (did I mention we have free coupons?) extravaganza! I know, I'm a little late and big apologies to Edy's. I've known my wife for a long time and this is by far the craziest December we've ever shared. Oh well, you don't want to hear about my troubles because it's Christmas break for a lot of you out there, so it's time to relax and enjoy (and be glad the month is over). Now we are at the very beginning of that blizzard that has been ransacking the country, so now seems like a great time to break out three containers of ice cream --- mainly because we can't do anything else --- no, that's not fair, there is a house full of toys, books, games, dvds, so there is plenty to do, but I'm hungry!!

Here they are! Three fresh pints straight from Edy's. We've got Hot Cocoa, Egg Nog, and Peppermint. Now I tried Hot Cocoa last December, I only rarely try mint things, and to be honest, I'm afraid of eggnog, hehehehe. My wife loves eggnog and always gets a half gallon at Christmas, but I never drink any.... strike that, I just tried a few sips of her Hood "golden" egg nog... ewww, not a big fan. I want to say it's overpoweringly sweet and it almost reminds of a super liquidy cake batter or maybe even cake batter ice cream. Ewww, she can finish that herself. I hope the ice cream is better!

AICC-2: Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream - Eggnog

I'm like a kid in a candy store with these Ice Cream of the Month Club ice creams sitting in my freezer. I feel a little silly, but I actually cracked open the Eggnog flavor last night and took a big whiff. There is no part of my brain that is tuned into the eggnog frequency, but man does this stuff smell good. I had it on the brain all day and I couldn't help but do a taste test when we got home today.

eggnog ice cream
I happily opened the container, scooped out a serving and dug in...and that's when I remembered I don't like egg nog. Sorry, I just don't. It reminds me of gingerbread men or other seasonal treats that I've just never been that in to. Chocolate shoppe says they are the best ice cream in Wisconsin, and I'll agree it's a quality product, but I can only say so much when I'm just not into the flavor. I got about half way through before I started dipping some pretzels in to the bowl to break up that gingery/nutmeg/whatever it is vibe.

I feel bad that I can't say more, but I'm just not that excited like I was yesterday. It's a shame too, because looking at the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream flavor list, you'll see there are a ton of fantastic looking flavors , a hundred of which I would have preferred over eggnog. I'm sure they are good...if not a bit unhealthy in regards to fat content....

....sorry, still staring at this gigantic flavor list. Man they have some awesome looking stuff!
