Turkey Hill's Bad Idea

[New for 2026] I don't know why, but Turkey Hill is getting in to the soft dessert game... well, I guess I do know why, money, it's always about money.

I just don't get it. Did they see the Blue Bunny Soft lineup and think "yeah, we can do that too!". That lineup just doesn't strike me as a big seller, so why copy it?

I guess I'm still just mad that they shrunk the all natural lineup and that it's hard to find.

What do you think of this food science inspired news?

  1. Eh, I’m not into it. You can’t replicate the soft serve experience in a container and I’m not sure why you’d even bother. Seems like a waste of concept, design and marketing. Honestly, the only reason I’d ever, ever buy this is to get my dog to take a pill! She will fish it out of peanut butter or cheese but she swallows ice cream immediately . Soft might be an even better option than regular scoops.

  2. I don't know. I'll have to try it to pass judgment. But I agree that you can't replicate soft serve. However, my kids liked the blue bunny soft serve alot. It's just a more mousse-y kind of feel that they liked. I still prefer just regular ice cream. I'll try this on sale.

    1. I should clarify that I get that some people do enjoy this type of product, I've just not seen one be able to sustain any kind of long term lifespan (I have a suspicion that the Blue Bunny lineup is going to start shrinking this year).

  3. I used to love TH. Haven’t bought any of their stuff in close to 10 years. FDD is just a non starter.

  4. I'm not even going to bother trying it. I tried to be open minded and tried the Blue Bunny soft serve. It was so gross to me! Since the company was bought out, TH has been such a huge disappointment. Unless I see a ton of positive feedback online, I'm not going to bother trying this.

  5. Not generally interested and TH has been losing shelf space in most places near me. I think the reality is that these niche kind of products are going to be the norm and innovation in true ice cream from non-regional supermarket brands will continue to decrease.

    1. When you talk niche, do you think products are rotating in and out more quickly? My daughter and I were debating that at the grocery store the other day.

    2. Dubba, yes that's what I mean. It feels like brands are leaning into more limited run products that come in and make a big splash but eventually (will) phase out. The Lil Debbie products, B&J ice cream bars, Blue Bunny Soft Serve, Blue Bell Protein Pints. There are upsides and downsides to it but it feel like the days of the more known brands dropping something really stellar in pints are gone.
