[June 10 to August 11, 2025] Except for Hot Cakes, I don't eat at McDonald's anymore... but as I was driving by one today, I saw a big poster for the S'mores McFlurry. Well, I do love S'mores, and it's been six years since I had a McFlurry, so it's time to order a....

McDonald's S'mores McFlurry
softserve with mini marshmallows, chocolate chunks, and graham cracker crumbles
Wait, when did McDonald's flip to this funky paper carton things? The answer is late 2024 apparently (press release here). I don't know if I love it, but I don't hate it either.

I'll be honest, it smells kind of weird... or maybe I should say it smells cheap and uninspired.
I take a few bites and it's nothing to blog home about.... and then I notice something.

What the laziness is this? It's not blended?! $5.55 and you can't even make it properly. It's not that hard people. When I worked at Mickey Ds all the years ago, I wouldnt have slacked off like that. Heck, when I made a hot fudge or hot caramel sundae, I upgraded it with an extra layer of sauce. Now you can't even be bothered to blend my McFlurry?
I did jump online and found that story of the Tik Tokker who got a ton of views for complaining about non-blended McFlurries. Apparently they are supposed to still be blended, but I wonder if any of you have run in to this as well.
Anyway, I decide to mix it up myself, which was a mistake. Instead of having a bunch of flavor on top and a bunch of plain softserve underneath, now I have a bunch of softserve with a boring, mild flavor. Numero Uno rule of S'mores is that ya gotta taste the graham. I do not. I dont really taste chocolate or marshmallow either. I taste cheap food science. It's like someone took a knockoff s'mores cereal and crushed it in to blah soft serve. BORING.
I hate to say it, but I threw out the last third of this McFlurry. I couldn't justify eating this nonsense any longer. I despite wasting, but there was no point in continuing.
It might be another 6 years before I try again....
Verdict? terrible
Buy Again? no way
That’s happened to me every time lately too! I thought it was just our bad southeast Virginia McDonald’s. I actually complained once. I think the remake was worse. They are just dumping low quality mix ins on top of soft serve. No blending at all! Terrible waste of money.
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same thing. I think McDonalds has traditionally been poor at at blending their McFlurries..I called it the McFlurry effect where the bottom 1/3-1/2 are pure vanilla soft serve. However, it seems like they've upped their game where now they just dump toppings on the soft serve with no attempts at blending whatsover. The McFlurry was terrible in any event: The "graham" pieces tasted like rice puffs, the "marshamllow" pieces were more like Lucky Charms marshamallows, and I barely registered any chocolate at all. A trifecta of garbage, all for north of $5.
ReplyDeleteI will try Smores anything once so I made a trip for this last week. Only the top third had any mix-ins.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how the McDonald's always say their blender is broken? I wonder if that's why it's not blended anymore?
