LaLoo's has rebranded as Funny Farm

All the local stores are pretty boring right now, but then I thought I spied a new brand of goat milk ice cream. Well, after a bit of investigation, I've discovered that Laloo's goat milk ice cream became LaLoo's by Funny Farm and now it's just Funny Farm (Foods).

Funny Farm Goat Milk Ice Cream
Vanilla Snowflake and Mystic Strawberry

I take a whiff of the strawberry and it has a wonderful smell of fresh strawberries. Mmmmm.... so tempting.... no, I should try vanilla first.

Oh, It's softer than expected. I'm getting a little sponginess from the gums in the mix. I cant say that you would know this is goat milk based if I didnt tell you. I'm still really surprised how soft it is. The vanilla flavor isn't super strong, but overall I have no complaints so far.

The strawberry is...  hmmmm.... something is off... for something with a great smell and a short ingredient list, this one comes off a bit artificial for some reason. Still scooping.... still confused... yeah, kind of weird. I don't know what's up with this one. Ok, gonna save this one for tomorrow I think. (keeping in mind that i've been mixing fresh strawberries in to vanilla ice cream for the last few weeks, so I have recent experience with this combo)

I thought I'd like the strawberry more but the vanilla is the one trying to win me over today. I think I get a little of the weirdness that I taste in the strawberry pint, but overall it's fine.

It's been almost 14 years since I first had laloo's, so it's hard to precisely compare the two experiences. I want to say that it was full fat way back then (internet *seems* to confirm), and now the pints say "reduced fat". Also, the switch to the funny farm name also seems to have come with a switch from true 16oz pints to this new 14oz faux pint size.

To be honest, the vanilla flavor kind of reminds me of a hoodsie cup (from like 20+ years ago, not a modern junky one). Back in the freezer it goes.

On Second Scoop: Yeah, I think alot of the oddness from yesterday has to do with it being goat's milk. Not sure why this fact is sticking out more today, but it is. I don't forsee buying these again any time soon, which is a shame because I remember Laloo's being a unique product, but now it just tastes like everything else.

Verdict?  meh

  1. Why did you change LaLoos vanilla goat milk ice cream? It was a perfect product!! Rebranding or "inproved" is code for different!! Prove ingredients are the same!!
