Hood Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn Ice Cream

[New for 2019] Hood likes to throw out two or more crazy limited flavors at us every year. Plenty of them fail, and yet, the craziness always calls me back in, at least for one of them. I'm not really interested in "Magic Bar" (picture shown at the end of this post), but I will take a crack at....

Hood Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn Ice Cream
artificially flavored popcorn reduced fat ice cream
with a salted burned caramel swirl

I crack the top open and I do smell popcorn.

I dive in and it does kind of taste like popcorn. It also kind of tastes like pretzels. It's a lighter ice cream and there's no solid textural component, so my brain isn't 100% sure how to place it.

So, let's do this. It's not too salty, so that's good. It's not to artificial, so that's good. I mean it's fake flavor, but it's not beating up your taste buds or anything. I've definitely had worse. There is a funness to it. I really do start thinking about the boardwalk when I taste the swirl... and then I bounce back to pretzels... and then I bounce to some strange middle ground.

So, yeah, it's definitely different!

On Second Scoop: I tried mixing it with pretzels, it did not help (at some point I will try mixing it with popcorn too). I wound up throwing in some cinnamon (because cinnamon) and it was interesting like that. I just think you need to be in the mood to eat this one... or maybe it just needs a nice fresh sugar cone to go in to. I would say pick it up because it's different, but at this point I don't imagine buying it again.

There's also the Hood New England Creamery limited edition flavor Magic Bar. It's artificially flavored coconut reduced fat ice cream with graham pieces, chocolates chips and a caramel swirl. There's also Frozen Hot Chocolate. If anyone tries either, please let us know how it is.

Verdict?  different, could use a little something
Buy Again?  nah

  1. I am sorry to say this but the sweet and salty kettle corn ice cream is the worst flavor of ice cream I have ever tried. Very disappointed

  2. Was your kettle corn icecream rather soft? Mine never seemed to firm up despite being in the freezer for days. It made it near impossible to put it in ice cream cones.

  3. It's light ice cream, so yeah, it'll never get that hard

  4. My family LOVES the Sweet and salty ice cream. It is even good with a little natural peanut butter on top. We wish Hood would make it all the time instead of just a limited edition for 2019. A 2/3 cup serving is very satisfying, unlike some other flavors where you just need much more!

  6. I wanted to like the kettle corn ice cream, but it missed a bit. I LOVED the Magic Bar one though, they did a great job of balancing all of the flavors. And having just bought it this week, I'm already obsessed with the frozen hot chocolate! It tastes fake... but in the exact way that hot chocolate packets taste fake. And they found a way to keep the marshmallows soft and gooey! Major win.
