Gelato Fiasco Pumpkin Pie Gelato

[Fall 2014 only] The very fine folks over at Gelato Fiasco asked if I was interested in their new fall and holiday lineups.... like they even had to ask! I love their stuff, Nick loves their stuff, so let's jump right in to the most appropriate flavor to start with.

Gelato Fiasco Pumpkin Pie Gelato
New England pumpkin with cinnamon, clove, allspice,
molasses, ginger, and nutmeg, and a gingersnap crust

I see ginger cookies from the opening shot...
And they keep multiplying!!

Well, it's certainly the most vegetably fruity of the bunch. This one feels more pumpkin then ice cream. I also think it's the... nutmeg that is speaking to me more then anything... or is it the ginger? iunno, you guys know I am terrible with my spices. I really need to sit down and learn which is which.

To be perfectly honest, this gelato was not meant for me. On one hand, I feel like I'm eating real pumpkin pie. Like I just sliced a piece of it and the overall pumpkin filling is here more than any other pumpkin treat I've had. That said, I'm more of a sweet guy when it comes to ice cream preferences.

This will sound dumb, but this one is a little too real for me. I just wasnt ready for the complexity of this one. I'm curious to see how the second scooping goes, but I'm thinking this one is going to be worked in to sundaes. I need some nice chocolate or caramel to sweeten things up for me.

On Second Scoop: Two things. One, the cookies are soft, I should have mentioned that yesterday. Two, my wife likes this one but admits that she probably wouldn't eat it straight out of the pint, it's just too much flavor. I made her the sundae above where the whip cream, chunks of Hershey's special dark chocolate, and a sprinkling of cinnamon had the chance to temper the flavor a bit. I give Gelato Fiasco props for the bold flavor profile, it's just not my style.

Verdict?  lots of flavor... and ginger
Buy Again?  I bet Nick or Junk Food Guy would!

Nick's Scoop: Dubba thought I would like this one and he was correct. While I still like Talenti's more, this is a whole different flavor. First off, the ginger is the key role in the pint. It's strong, really strong so I can see that being a deal breaker for some. I enjoyed it though and the gingersnap cookie crust pieces real help seal the deal. I preferred them to whatever Talenti had in their flavor just because I love gingersnaps normally. The funny thing is, they actually gave you a relief from the ginger heavy base. They're the perfect mix-in for the flavor. Whose ever Grandma's recipe they used, I know she would be proud of this gelato incarnation. I would definitely recommend giving this one a shot if you can get your hands on it. Ginger haters be warned, this might possibly steal your soul.

  1. Reminds me of the review Nick had with the Talenti Mint. Sometimes it's a little too real!
