Homemade Brand Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream Review

[By Nick] Along with their Limited Edition Pumpkin Pie ice cream, Homemade Brand also sent over a container of their Limited Edition Sea Salt Caramel. Looking over their website, Homemade Brand currently has 10 limited edition flavors. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty impressive. Hey folks over at Homemade, if you ever need to add another limited edition flavor, I’m totally willing to collaborate on something with you! The world needs a white chocolate cookies and cream ice cream. Okay, enough sidetracking let’s talk about the ice cream.

I feel like everyone has jumped on the sea salt caramel bandwagon. It’s the flavor equivalent of the greek yogurt trend. Still it’s an amazing combination so I’m in no way complaining about the saturation in the freezer aisle. Homemade Brand’s version utilizes sweet cream ice cream with sea salt caramel swirls as well as chocolate covered caramel truffles. I haven’t had sweet cream ice cream in a while, so this is a welcomed change of pace.

Opening up the container, the base is a nice tan and you can see pieces of the truffles peeking out. There is some sign of the sea salt caramel swirl as well. Okay, I’m starving so it’s time to start scooping some of this into my bowl.

When they say swirl, they mean SWIRL

Getting a taste of the base alone, it’s just as good as B&J’s even possibly better. Sweet cream is just as versatile as a vanilla and gives some extra depth to the product. It also serves as a perfect base for the mix-ins in this one. First let’s talk about the sea salt caramel swirl, this stuff is exactly what I want when it comes to sea salt caramel. The sea salt amplifies the buttery caramel and takes it to a whole new level. The caramel is also very gooey which is always a plus in my book.

Now I would be content with just those two components but Homemade decided to add these little nuggets of perfection to the mix. First of all, just look at how adorable they are. They look like the people at Homemade Brand took a shrink ray to a box of valentine’s chocolates. Secondly, they just taste amazing. According to the website they are sea salt caramel truffles but I feel like these are filled with a much sweeter caramel. These two caramels contrast nicely though and the chocolate shell adds some texture as well as some needed bitterness to balance the caramel inside. I kind of want a box of these caramels just to enjoy normally. Yeah, this is easily one of my favorite ice creams of all time now and I really wish this wasn’t just a limited edition flavor. This isn’t just some brand jumping on the bandwagon; they’re the one behind the wheel. If you see this in stores, I’d advise you picking up a container or 5.

On Second Scoop: Can we please take a moment to appreciate all of the caramel I just found? I literally hit the halfway mark and was greeted with this masterpiece. I think this is what they mean when they say “liquid gold”. Okay, I have nothing else to say but that this flavor is perfect. Go find some now.

On Further Scoops: I forgot to check who made this one. Well Kyle M., if you were a lady, I’d ask you to marry me. Speaking of marriage, I officially want this flavor served at my wedding. Hell, I want this flavor served at every monumental event in my life!

Verdict?  Sea Salt + Caramel is always a win. This ice cream perfected that formula.
Buy Again?  If stores around me carried it, this would easily be a regular purchase.

  2. Mitch, I tried Talenti's but not Hd's. I did really like Talenti's version but this one was superior in my book.

  4. According to their where to buy page, the fresh market in Latham carries them. If you're up in the area you should check it out. Not sure if places around where you are now carry them though. You can check for yourself if you want. http://homemadebrand.com/where-to-buy/
