Strawberries Are Forever Shortcake
Blue Bunny Ice Cream Review

[New for 2011, now discontinued] You know, I just had a thought as I was digging into this new flavor: "Who rocks the strawberry ice creams like Blue Bunny?" I thought maybe I was being too kind, but then I thought about it and I'm pretty sure Blue Bunny is on the top of my list right now when it comes to doing justice to strawberries. I like their versions more every time I try a new one. Let's dig in and see what I'm babbling about.

Blue Bunny Strawberries are Forever Shortcake Ice Cream
Strawberry ice cream and strawberries with pound cake pieces
and swirls of whipped cream flavored frosting

Oh yeah, that is exactly what I want to see when I open a container like this. Tons of cake pieces and strawberry bits everywhere! Woohoo! You know, I don't think anyone has done this combo before.

Ok, one more to get you revved up. There is the occasional big strawberry chunk which I always dig, plus you can see the respectable size of the cake hunks. Mmmmm, can't beat lots of mix-ins!

Without even saying it, I'm sure you've already figured out that this one tastes really good. I love a good strawberry flavor, and the way Blue Bunny makes ice cream seems to lend itself well to creating that neat strawberry whip cream flavor. Speaking of that, don't worry about running aground into a giant hunk of overly sweet whip cream frosting swirl. At no point did I notice any of my bites being sweeter than the rest. That neat, sweet whip cream vibe is thoroughly spread out and very enjoyable.

I was worried about Blue Bunny trying to top their Double Strawberry flavor, but yet again I am impressed. This was a sweet treat that totally cured my strawberry dessert craving. Unless you don't dig a whip cream vibe with your ice cream (or if you don't like strawberries), I can't imagine you not enjoying this one....  Funny, when I had their Alpine Strawberry flavor, I was a bit put off by that whip cream nature of the treat, but here, with the cake and the real strawberries bit, it totally works for me. You know, this is a great lesson about balancing your flavors really. Nice job Blue Bunny.

Disclaimer: Almost forgot to mention this was part of my free shipment from Blue Bunny!

Verdict?  Excellent Berry & Cake Combo
Buy Again?  Definitely

  3. @Rodzilla: They are 2 for 2 so far, and the others are downstairs. Hopefully I'll get the red velvet up this week.

@LoC: Strawberry (and black raspberry) are great "sometimes" flavors. When I've got the urge for a strawberry treat, nothing else will do!

  4. hmmm my ice cream looks nothing like the pic you shown. It looks like vanilla with cake chunks in it. I think i got a batch that left out the strawberries as there are no chunks to be found and even the flavor of strawberry is missing. The ice cream taste like whipped cream and pound cake.

    1. Did you just start the container or is the whole thing devoid of strawberries? Blue Bunny has always been wicked nice, don't be afraid to contact customer service.

  5. I'm not big on strawberries so I was initally put off by this flavor but nonetheless I tried it. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious it is! I love the huuge strawberry chunks and how you can really taste the whipped cream not frosting. My only thing was I wish there was more cake in it and it was sweeter because I really didn't taste it at all. Overall very refreshing for a hot summer day!

  7. Was not aware Blue Bunny had this flavor so I'll have to try it. Breyer's Strawberry Shortcake is quite disappointing and would greatly benefit with the inclusion of whole strawberry chunks instead of bits. They missed the boat with their version.
