Breyers Smooth & Dreamy
Chocolate Caramel Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich

2012 Update: Well, I said the cookie dough ones were better, and sure enough, these ones got cut from the line up. The the triple chocolate chip bars didn't make it to the 2013 season.

Ever since I tried the new Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Sandwich, I've been dieing to try the other two flavors.

So here is flavor #2: Chocolate Caramel Brownie: Chocolate Light Ice Cream with a Caramel Swirl and Fudge Brownie Pieces between Brownie Cookies. That makes for 3.5 fluid ounces of potential yumminess.

You know what I noticed first? Ok, besides the strange egg shape. No, after the last Friday Night Fight the first thing I wound up noticing was a smell reminiscent of brownies. The Klondike and Skinny Cow treats smelled so unappealing, but this smells like a nice chocolaty treat.

Just like the CCCD, notice a very healthy slab of ice cream between two thin chocolaty wafers.

I remembered to slice this one in half. There are rogue brownie bits here and there, though I'm not sure they serve a point between two chocolaty wafers. It's not like they add crunch or bite of flavor bursts. You can also see the caramel swirl, though I don't remember it having much of an impact on me either. I think I tasted it a little, but nothing major. (the effort is appreciated, but just not... ummm, potent)

Overall Feelings? Decent, but I definitely prefer the CCCD. I do like the overall chocolate flavor here, but it's borderline dry. I should clarify it's not your typical dry wafer vibe. The brownie cookies are just that, cookies made of brownies, but they aren't ooey gooey fudgy brownies. They aren't oil soaked brownies. This treat is meant to be light and so the brownies need to be... shall we say humble and modest with their use of fats and oils.

I have no doubt these little guys will be around for awhile. The market for low fat yet still tasty treats is ever expanding. If you need your frozen chocolate fix but have already burnt through your fat intake for the day, these will suffice. I personally will be sticking with the cookie dough ones, but hey, try them all and pick whichever one suits you best.

  1. I just tried one of these. I took one bite and threw it in the trash. First time I have EVER trashed an ice cream sandwich in my entire 39 years. That was nasty.

  2. Incredible! I love them, but now I can't find them in any of the stores anymore.

  3. Aw man. Why'd they do that? They were recommended in the 2012 Eat This Not That book. :(
