[New for Fall 2022] So Van Leeuwan is back with *seven* more flavors (with 4 being exclusive to Walmart). This is round 3 of there 2022 blitz and I gotta ask: "does anyone still care at this point?" The flavors are the ones you see below plus Tapatio Mexican Hot Chocolate, Sweet Potato Marshmallow Casserole, Wildberry Layer Cake, Hazelnut Fudge Cookie, and Honeycomb (press release here). If you are like me, you may have thought they did honeycomb already, but this one is neither round 1's Hot Honey or round 2's Honey Cornbread.

Turkey Hill Pumpkin Pie Frozen Dairy Dessert

I think this is the first time that I've had this flavor since it's been converted to a frozen dairy dessert. Yes, I still hate the spongy nature of frozen dairy dessert (that will never change). I feel like the swirl might be a little less crazy than the original version (reviewed here), but it's still doing a good job of keeping this flavor amusing. 

I won't be buying a half dozen of these, but it's probably best that I spiced things up... get it, spiced! ('cause the cinnamon) ..Ha.. I had actually planned on doing an early morning ice cream restock run to Wegman's this morning, but even ice cream isn't worth braving icy roads for.

I had not seen anything about this product until it was staring me in the face (next to the returning B&J's Pumpkin Cheesecake and the new Eggo Pumpkin Pie Pancakes). Back in the old days, I might get the scoop on something like Ben & Jerry's Greek Froyo hitting my local shelves before anywhere else (link), but with so many people trying to be the next big instagram hit, it's so hard to be truly surprised anymore. Now I've spent the last several weeks thinking about writing some nice heartfelt post about how we should appreciate every moment of holiday family time. Sure the holidays can seem like a chore but some day you'll be looking back going "remember when grandma cooked that" or "remember when the kids did that" or whatever. Ahhh, I'm too tired to be sentimental, just try to enjoy Thanksgiving and we'll leave it at that. Let's get to the ice cream!

Talenti Pumpkin Pie Gelato (#30)

[By Nick, New for 2014, Seasonal] So about a week ago I was joking around with Talenti on twitter saying that they should make a Pumpkin Pie Gelato for next fall. Little did I know that such a flavor was already in development, let alone that I'd find it at my Shop Rite just a few days later. When I saw the pint behind the freezer door, you could say I was more excited than the trendies on the first day of pumpkin spice latte  season (or PSL as they call it). Well, you know, minus the yoga pants and ugg boots... maybe, but that's not here nor there. Talenti has graced us with a new pumpkin option for the fall season and I'm happy to be the first to report to the masses about it.

Homemade Brand Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream Review

[By Nick] The holidays might be over but that doesn't mean it's too late for some pumpkin pie ice cream, especially if you consider the fact that January 23rd is National Pie Day. In the complimentary shipment from Homemade Brand, they included a container of their limited edition Pumpkin Pie ice cream. Now I really like pumpkin pie as long as there is no disgusting crust. So many pies have been ruined by that disgusting wrapping of flour. When I was little, I would just eat the filling and leave the soulless crust behind.

Homemade Brand’s version is made up of pumpkin pie ice cream with pie crust pieces and a whipped topping swirl. Now I’m going to try to put my bias against pie crust aside for this review but I doubt that’ll be fully possible. Also, am I the only one who thinks "whipped topping swirl" sounds funny? I mean it’s swirled in so it’s not exactly topping anymore. Then again, it’s not made out of cream so I guess they couldn’t have called it whipped cream either. Eh technicalities aside, I’m ready for some pie!

Perry's seems like a cool company with some cool flavors, but I'm relegated to a very tiny selection of their lineup that is served up by the only Wegman's in Mass. Thankfully for me, I was pleasantly surprised when Perry's sent over an email asking if I wanted some free samples of their fall flavors. I said yes in a heartbeat and patiently waited for my delivery.

Behold Perry's Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream and their new Apple Pie Ice Cream (which was discontinued a few years later). Nothing says fall like Pumpkins and Apples. I'm digging the black limited edition packaging. I mean, besides Breyers, who else rocks black?

Lifeway Foods Frozen Kefir Reviews

[By Nick] Have you ever heard of, let alone tried, kefir? I know I hadn’t until around a year ago. My friend had made a homemade version of it in frozen form and invited me over to try it. From what I recall, it was okay but nothing earth shattering. I actually forgot all about it until Dubba offered me the opportunity to sample a line of frozen kefir from Lifeway Foods.

To give you a little background on what kefir is I’ll let Lifeway describe it for you. “Kefir is a cultured probiotic beverage similar in taste and texture to drinkable yogurt, and made from milk fermented with kefir cultures. Originating over 2000 years ago in the Caucasus Mountains-where many people live well over 100 years - kefir has been associated with a long list of health benefits.” From what I was told from my friend, it’s originally a drinkable tangier cousin of yogurt with a lot more positive health benefits.

Shortest. Hiatus. Ever.

Ya... I've got a steel will don't I? I went all of a few days before walking by a frozen pint and going "I gotta get that!" Ok, it's a little more complicated than that, so we will start at the beginning.

So, there I was, hungry, but tired of sandwiches from home and in no mood for another fast food burger. Sure, I could go the foo foo route, but I haven't been to Roche Bros grocery store in a while, so I think it's time for another visit.

I head into the store and instead of going straight, I break left and discover a giant section of meals ready to eat! Jackpot! I go with the steak "tips", corn, and (disgusting) rice florentine. Next, I grab myself a fat free chocolate Nesquik (which I won't do again any time soon) and then decide to head for the freezer aisle.

Now hopefully no one noticed, but I stopped for a second, took a deep breath, and then slowly began to wander down the freezer aisle. No rushing, just gingerly looking at each and every pint. I tried to focus on what I was really in the mood for since I haven't actually had any ice cream since, well, last Friday, and technically that was froyo (in my world, that's an eternity).

Hmmm, that B&J Creme Brulee might be interesting. I could go H-D but they don't have anything catching my eye. Ok, well, they do have an assortment of more local flavors.  This might work. You know, I always see Sweet Scoops at Whole Foods. Oh wait, it's frozen yogurt? I totally forgot that.

Mint? nah.

Madagascar Vanilla? ehhhhh.

Black Raspberry? that could work.....

Oh yeah, time to man up and give this one a shot!

Here it is, and as you can see, some nice orange highlights help this pint catch your eye. Sweet Scoops All Natural Limited Editon Pumpkin with other natural flavors sounds like it could very well rock. "Pumpkin Puree, molasses, and spices make this flavor a seasonal best seller. Imagine grandma's pumpkin pie without the crust". Wait, no crust? Iunno, I do love my crust pieces, but I'm going to give this a try anyway.

Whole Foods has been doing some research apparently

So Whole Foods has come out with two new flavors this season and they just happen to match are ongoing poll results right now, how cool is that? What have they picked? Well...

It's Pumpkin and Peppermint ofcourse! Now, unfortunately these 365 everyday value flavors were damaged in shipping (you can see the busted pumpkin top if you look closely), but I did give them the old sniff taste and they smelled fantastic. Now check this out:

That looks like chocolate covered peppermint to me! oh yeah!! Part of me was so tempted to dig into the ice creams anyway, but I had to remind myself it's only ice cream, I will live if I don't have any.

Now I sent some pictures to Whole Foods so they could tweak their shipping methods, and if another shipment ever shows up, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.
