Eggo Buttery Maple Ice Cream Sandwiches

[New for Early 2025] I went out to Shaw's Thursday morning in the hopes of finding new ice cream and boy oh boy did I find a lot of new ice cream. I (mostly) love (and hate) when I have too many tasty looking choices. It's easy when I have one or two things to choose from, but what happens when I see two dozen new products in front of me? Decisions decision decisions..... ok, I know what to get!

Cumberland Farms Blissful Breakfast Club Ice Cream

[New for 2018] I swear it used to be easier to find "new" things in the second half of the year. Maybe I'm too good at finding everything early? Well, I still search none the less, but all the usual suspects are fairly bare. You know, I haven't been to Cumberland Farms in months, and they do tend to release new flavors now and then. I wonder what they have...

Halo Top Pancakes & Waffles Light Ice Cream

[By Nick] Welcome to 2018, everyone! Are you planning on cutting back on your ice cream intake this year? For better or (more than likely) for worse, there’s a scary amount of low calorie options on the market right now. It seems like “good for you” ice creams have become all the rage with Talenti recently jumping on board. It’s been awhile however since we’ve taken a look at the brand that pretty much started this trend.

Baskin-Robbins Belgian Waffle Ice Cream

[Sept 2017] There's a flavor of the month with "Waffle" in the name? Just let me check the calendar, yup, it's clear now. To the lunchmobile!

Edy's Slow Churned Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream

[New for 2016] Ok, time for our last review of 2016. I know I haven't covered all of the new 2016 freezer aisle products, but checking the records shows I came pretty close considering what was available to me (and what I'm actually willing to consume). We're going to end with Edy's of all things which seems a little funny because a few of you pointed out that I tend to be hard on Edy's. I can see why you might think that, but keep in mind that I consider all of the good products they put out over the last twenty years and then compare it to what they deliver today.

Vice Cream Breakfast in Bed Ice Cream

[New for 2016] Time to get a new ice cream company on the blog, and when I say new, I mean that they just came to market this month. Their name is Vice Cream and it sounds familiar right? I thought so too and did a search but only dug up that wacky Licktators product from last year (look up at your own discretion). Vice Cream is based in Boston and makes "unapologetically indulgent ice cream". They have started off with five flavors available at Roche Bros and Tedeschi. I took a few minutes to decide which one I wanted to try first and then plopped down $5.99 for...

Yeti Frozen Custard Review

So, this review is going to start with two apologies. One is to Yeti Frozen Custard as they sent these free samples over five weeks ago (their website is here). I was fairly quick to try them but logistics got in the way of the actual post. The second apology is to everyone who grew up with frozen custard because frozen custard just isn't really a thing in the northeast. I know eggs are a factor and that it shouldn't be drastically different from other things I've tried for the blog, but please forgive my lack of experience here. Now, without further ado, let's try....

Hood Maple French Toast Ice Cream

[New for Early 2016] Who remembers last year's french toast ice cream from Perry's? Well, it's gone now, but look who jumped in to take it's place. Yet again Hood is using their "New England Creamery" line to keep budget ice cream exciting. Let's see what they can do with their....

Arctic Zero Buttery Pecan Fit Frozen Dessert

[By Nick] Ahhh, it's been awhile since Arctic Zero has been on the site. Heck, I haven't tried a pint of this stuff since well before I wrote for On Second Scoop. They recently came out with a new line of five "chunky" pints. First off, I just love the irony in the name. Secondly though, I had no intentions of trying any of the flavors. Fool me once shame on you, fool me like 5 times, shame on me and my curiosity. That said, when I saw a pint of Buttery Pecan stocked at the Niskayuna Co-op, my curiosity took over once again. I have a problem and that problem is wanting to try every product on the market. Add the fact that it's butter pecan and there's no way I couldn't pick this one up. Wish me luck.

Walgreens Maple Macadamia Mash-Up
Trace Adkins Celebrity Apprentice Ice Cream

[Debuted 2013, was available in a de-branded state] I don't know why, but I'm excited about this flavor. I had stopped over at the bigger Walgreens to pick up their S'mores ice cream when I was shocked to see both of the Celebrity Apprentice flavors still on the shelf. And these are fresh pints too with far out expiration dates. I've haven't noticed them at the smaller Walgreens, and I know the latest season of CA is already over, but when ice cream pints are 2 for $4, there is something liberating about trying something risky.

Perry's Maple Cheesecake Ice Cream

[New for Fall 2014] I got an email from Perry's asking if I wanted to try their new fall flavor and ofcourse I said yes. No, it's not pumpkin, Perry's already makes a nice pumpkin ice cream. They say this new flavor is a mix of crisp fall nights, NY style cheesecake, and maple syrup. Sounds... different, pleasantly different, than every other pumpkin spiced product out there. Let's dig in

Steve's Sunday Morning Ice Cream #25

[By Nick] After my underwhelming experience with Steve’s Salty Caramel ice cream, I thought it would be best to try the free sample I was most excited about: Sunday Morning.

With a description of “Buttered Maple Syrup Ice Cream with Crispy Waffle Pieces” there’s no way I couldn’t be excited. If you don’t know, Dubba and I are quite the advocates for ice cream for breakfast and Steve’s has gone and made a flavor perfect for such an occasion. And come on, when’s the last time you saw waffle pieces in ice cream that weren’t cones? Exactly, never. If you can’t tell, I’m very excited for this flavor and my expectations are extremely high. Please don’t let me down Steve’s!

Maple's Maine Maple Organic Gelato Review

[wholesale distribution discontinued : only available at their scoop shops]

hehehehe, did you read that title 2 or 3 times?  A little confusing, isn't it? Maple's is a small Maine "artisan dessert" shop that sells their goods to my local Whole Foods. What you see in the next picture is the 2012 redesign of their packaging.

As you can see, Maple's now comes in pint and quart size containers. The pint containers have gone with a more traditional pint shape while the new quart containers look like the old pint containers. They've even gone and upgraded to a fancy schmancy, color coded ribbon system with gold medallions for good measure. The thing is, I didn't buy one of these pints.

Yeah, a few months ago I actually bought this pint and another as they were on sale for like 2 for $7 or something (remember, they are usually $5.99 a piece). I've been trying to expand my little ice cream world and a maple flavor seemed like a simple way to do that.

Ben & Jerry's Hannah Teter's
Limited Edition Maple Blondie Review

[2009 Limited Edition] When we got in from the cold yesterday, rather than warming up, we jumped into the freezer and pulled out the very tempting Maple Blondie. One of our fellow ice cream fanatics was nice enough to send over an email that not only mentioned that  Maple Blondie is now available, but that her and her husband had split on how good it was. She thought it was great, while he thought it was just too sweet. Hmmm, sounds like we have some investigating to do.

Here is a very fresh container of Ben & Jerry's Hannah Teter's Limited Batch Maple Blondie Ice Cream. If you are wondering who Hannah Teter is, she's an 2006 Olympic gold medal snowboarder who is currently trying to raise $300,000 to provide a better life for the people of Kirindon, Kenya. Not only is she trying to save a child, or even a family, she's trying to help the entire community and I think we all wish her the very best of luck in reaching her goal.
