Turkey Hill Simply Natural Strawberries & Cream

--- At the end, we'll talk about the "Simply Natural" rebranding ---

[New for 2020 or 2021] So I went to Market Basket for the first time in a very long time a few months ago. I had only been there once or twice during the pandemic, and that was to grab an item or two, not stare at the ice cream aisle. Well, I finally made it back and spied something I had never seen before. You know I love this lineup, so let's dig in to.....

Turkey Hill Simply Natural Strawberries & Cream Ice Cream

Simple...

...but thankfully still effective.

So this one isn't very strong in terms of flavor, and there aren't a gazillion strawberry pieces, but for an all natural strawberries & cream flavor, it'll do just fine. It's a nice change of pace from vanilla and it's good for when you don't want chocolate.

History note: can anyone confirm what year this came out?

On Second Scoop: Since a few months have passed, I can confirm that this one has become a regular in our house (aka I've been going back to Market Basket regularly, in part because of this flavor, but also because of overall selection and pricing, but anyway). On my latest run, I also finally spied a container of regular chocolate chip (in the new branding), so I've been mixing the two together and it's quite enjoyable.

Have you been wondering why Turkey Hill switched from "All Natural" to "Simply Natural"? I know I was because, frankly, I don't like the new name. To me, it's awkward to say. Why would they make this change? Does it seem similar to when Ben & Jerry's went from "All Natural Ice cream" to "Vermont's Finest"? Basically, yeah, it seems to be the same kind of thing. I'm not a legal person, but one contacted me and said the change was related to this:

One of the items that caught my eye was this: "“Spiking” of vanilla through addition of natural flavors which simulate the taste of vanilla, contrary to consumer expectations and law". This would line up with why the "main ingredients" are no longer listed on the front of the packaging.

Has this effected flavoring? The only thing I've noticed so far is that the cookie dough flavor is a lot less potent now. It used to have a little zing to it, but now that zing is pretty muted. I think the strawberry hasn't changed much, but I only had a container or two of the old formula before it flipped to the new packaging. The only observable change is that the S&C ingredient list now lists "natural flavor" at the end rather than "natural strawberry flavor".

What are your thoughts on the change?

Verdict?  not super strong, but enjoyable
