Baskin-Robbins OREO Milk 'n Cereal Ice Cream

[New for Aug 2016] I'm starting to think that when I order a single scoop at Baskin-Robbins ($2.98), I have better luck than when I order a double. Today's case in point:

Baskin-Robbins OREO Milk 'n Cereal Ice Cream
Cereal milk flavored ice cream swimming with OREO cookie pieces,
frosted corn flake cereal pieces, and a crunchy frosted corn flake cereal ribbon

It's a neat looking flavor right? I do love hearty swirls and this has one. Overall it's a sweet profile that is surprisingly not dominated by the Oreos. It's actually more cereal than Oreos and I think that's what makes this one a neat flavor to try. It's got a familiar cereal taste first and just a mild cookies and cream undercurrent to help round things out. The two flavors go well together.

Nothing is standing out and dominating, nothing is being crazy. I like the fact that it's not a particularly fake tasting treat and I say this because you don't really know how they will get to a "cereal milk" flavored base. These are no fruity crisp Oreos. This is more tempered and friendly than that. I like when flavors keep each other in check to create a more unified experience.

The swirl is cool but maybe not exactly as you would expect. It's a hearty swirl that does taste like frosted corn flakes in general, but it's not super crispy or crunchy. There is that bit of crunchy edge taken off much like regular frosted flakes in milk. It's not that it tastes soggy per say, but you will notice a bit of softness here and there but it works with the flavor profile.

If I'm being a little too vague and not winning you over just yet, let me just say that at one point I got a caramel popcorn vibe from the swirl. That vibe didn't ride through the whole treat, but it was at that moment that I realized that I really should have gotten a double scoop.

I say give this one a try if you can. It's fun, it's different, and I would totally inhale another serving. Actually, for the record, I wound up forcing myself to go slow at the end just so I could savor it a bit more. I don't know if this one works as a daily driver, but it's definitely something I would put in to a larger rotation. Nice job BR, two for two!

Verdict?  tasty fun
Buy Again?  yup

  1. The problem I have with the term "cereal milk" is that the milk tastes different depending on the cereal! So, clearly this is Frosted Flakes milk but that's very different from, say, Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk or cocoa crispies milk. The concept of a frosted flake swirl is so bizarre because how does one make a swirl out of a crunchy snack?

  2. I totally love the idea of cereal flavored ice cream. With so many different varieties and flavors of ice cream, one can produce many flavors and get very creative. Ice cream is in need of a hit fad/phase and this could totally work and be it. Think of the possibilities with cereals like Reese's Puffs, Chocolate Marshmallow Mateys, and Rice Krispies Treats cereal.

  3. I liked it and would buy it again, but I actually thought the Oreo over powered the Frosted Flakes too much. At times it just tasted like cookies and cream. I was eating around the Oreo trying to get more of the cereal flavor. I'd like to see more cereal ice cream ... Without Oreo additions.

  4. I tried this tonight and it was good, but not great to me. I thought it was a little too much cookies and cream, and didn't really read "cereal" to me. I'd definitely get it again, if I was there, but I wouldn't go out of my way for a second helping (and I definitely preferred last month's birthday variation).

That said, neat idea though I'd like to see it tried without the oreos
