Ben & Jerry's Roasted & Toasted Ice Cream

[By Nick, New for 2015] We've known about this flavor before I left to go tour Ben & Jerry's facilities in March but my Wal-Mart just finally started stocking it. So without further ado, I give to you Ben & Jerry's latest Wal-Mart exclusive flavor.

Ben & Jerry's Roasted & Toasted Ice Cream
Dark Chocolate Ice Cream with Fudge Chunks,
Fudge-Covered Roasted Almonds, & a Toasted Marshmallow Swirl

Upon first glance, I thought this was Rocky Road-ish's dark chocolate cousin. However, it seems to be more like Ben & Jerry's take on Heavenly Hash. Oh and did I mention DARK CHOCOLATE? It looks like I won't get to complain about my dislike of their normal chocolate ice cream for once.

Removing the lid, that's definitely darker than the normal base. It's hard to see but there are plenty of almonds and fudge chunks. Not so hard to see is the toasted marshmallow swirl. The ice cream is notably dark and a big improvement from the standard base. The ice cream doesn't mask the mix-ins as much and isn't quite as bland. I still prefer the milk chocolate base from PB World more but I'd be fine seeing this base used more.

The almonds play a major part because their flavor is the strongest thing going on. They're good and go well with the base. They're also basically in every spoonful which is always a good thing. The fudge chunks get lost in the mix though minus their standard textural component. Lastly, the toasted marshmallow swirl is even more lost. I can see it but the base just drowns it out. I can taste hints of marshmallow here and there but it's far more noticeable in their s'mores flavor.

Honestly, this reminds me of a darker version of New York Super Fudge Chunk. This one is for those of you who really love chocolate but it's just okay for me. It's not bad but nothing to go out of your way for. Unless you really love dark chocolate, NYSFC with satisfy your mix-in heavy chocolate overload and save you from the creatures of Wal-Mart.

Verdict?  Better on paper than in action
Buy Again?  Nah

  1. Damn Nick, you got jipped on the swirl. In my pint it was about 3x larger/denser. Maybe got a bad pint?

  3. Bob, swirl got bigger throughout the pint. Still didn't play much of a factor in taste because of the base. I tried it on its own and it's definitely the same swirl as s'mores so I know how it's like. Sadly, the dark chocolate is base a bit too strong for it.

  6. OM...I think this is the BOMB!!! I love the dark chocolate base! I wish there were more marshmellow swirls, but I am not complaiing. NY Superchunk fudge was my favorite before this one. Now if they keep stocking it.....
