So Delicious Coconut Milk Cookie Dough
A Non-dairy Frozen Dessert Review

I've been saying I don't like coconut for so long that I don't even remember the last time I had some. I ate something with a little bit accidentally, maybe a year or two ago, but in general, I avoid it without exception.

Well, I had picked up some non-dairy cookie dough coconut milk "ice cream" for everyone to try. I had actually heard good things, so for some silly reason I thought I might like it.

I was wrong, so horribly horribly wrong. If you do not like coconut, do not go anywhere near this stuff. For some strange reason, for some moment of complete ineptitude, I thought this stuff wouldn't have a strong coconut flavor. Why? I don't know, I can only blame foolishness. My word, it's so strong! I just wanted to gag. To all the readers who love coconut, my deepest apologies, but this stuff is fowl, FOWL I say!

I aimed for cookie dough pieces but all I could taste was coconut. I will also say that the texture is not normal. It may be coconut MILK, but it is not cow's milk (or even goat's milk). I can't remember the last time I gagged but wow, wow oh wow, oh the memories are painful.... it will be years before I even think of something like a slice of german chocolate cake.

There's no second scoop on this one, but to be fair, here is a very positive review from someone who actually likes coconut.

Update 2011/2012: Along the way, some "Purely Decadent made with Coconut Milk" flavors were flipped to so delicious flavors.

I despise coconut, but I will admit that the massive cookie dough chunks in this pint are epic.

  1. Hi. My name is Adamarie, and I love coconut.

Sorry you didn't like this flavor. I saw that brand the other day but didn't pick it up (too many pints already in the freezer). Mayhap it will fare better out of my freezer than yours. :)

  2. If someone who hates coconut hated this, it must be good! I love coconut, and I cannot wait to try it! Thanks for letting me know about it. :)

  4. I LOVE coconut and recently tried the cookies and cream version of this. But guess what? I absolutely HATED it. It takes like my beloved coconut...yet also had a horrifyingly disgusting aftertaste and texture. I was soooo excited to try it after reading some rave reviews alone, but I couldn't even take a second lick.

  5. I have tried the chocolate and vanilla varieties. I enjoyed both and found the coconut flavor present, but not overwhelming. Liked it A LOT better than soy alternatives. Kids (including my picky son) loved it too. Everyone is different, but I think the lower calories, low glycemic sweetener and flavor are great tradeoffs. Looking for more exotic flavors this afternoon.

  6. I'm actually tasting this ice cream and actually I have to say that me too, for some strange reasons, thought that the ice cream wouldn't have the taste of coconut!
Anyway, I love coconut, so this hasn't been very terrible. But when I started to eat the ice cream... it is really gross! Chocolate doesn't taste as chocolate at all, the cookie tastes of salt and nothing else...I love cookie dough ice cream, and I bought this one because I was looking for something even better than my traditional haagen dasz, and I must say that I am VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED, and on top of that I had to pay more money for this horrible ice cream than for a good haggen dasz... :(
