Jeni's Double Dough Ice Cream

[New for Summer 2023] I really do need to get more Jeni's on the blog. With price and quality differentials the way they are right now, there's no reason I cant treat myself to a pint of Jeni's now and then.

Today's review is going to be a review of what used to be a "lonely ghost" collab. That branding is gone, but who doesn't love a cookie dough ice cream that has some actual cookie dough flavoring in the base? That's the way cookie dough ice cream should be. I don't expect this one to disappoint, so let's dive in to....

Jeni's Double Dough Ice Cream

Not much of a tease, is it?

Cookie dough bits ae starting to show.

I take my first few small bites, and yeah, that's pretty tasty... delicious even? Yeah, maybe. The greatest cookie dough flavors have a great flavored base, and the flavor on this base is pretty strong (for a cookie dough flavor).

Now I personally would prefer the base to be a smidge less salty (9% of your sodium per 2/3 cup serving) so that I can focus a little more on the flavoring, but I get that they do that to make sure the base comes alive.

The cookie dough bits are pretty small, and that makes me wish that this had some chocolate chips in the mix as well. This is a great flavor, but you know that I always crave just a bit more texture in my fun flavors.

If someone told me that they ate the whole pint in the first sitting, I would understand why they did that, especially on a brutally hot summer day like today. My wife got the first third of the pint and I think I just had the second third, but I could easily keep going.

Ok, need to stop scooping the melted edges now...

To recap, an unsurprisingly tasty flavor from Jeni's. Sure, my brain considers different tweaks, but don't think that I didn't enjoy every bite.

On Second Scoop: I definitely like this one, but I don't love it. It's a solid offering, no doubt, but I want the cookie dough bits to be larger. It would add more texture but also more sweetness to balance out that bit of saltiness that this one has going on. I'm glad I tried it, but I would still fall back on Tillamook cookie dough as my goto cookie dough flavor right now. [I freely admit that I considered mixing the two on this final scooping, but I didnt want to muddy the waters on this second scooping]

Verdict?  solid offering
Buy Again?  need to get caught up with other offerings from Jeni's first
