[Limited Edition for 2026] I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I miss real Drumsticks. They were a goto for me in the 200X years and definitely a more frequent guest during the first five years of this blog. The last non-traditional Drumstick review was in 2024 (the slurpee version) and then the last time I had an official, coated Drumstick was way back in 2015 (the butterfinger version).
That's kind of crazy if you think about it. How did they go from being one of my favorite treats to nothingness? I blame the food science that is frozen dairy dessert. I do get tempted every year to bring a new box home, and then, finally, one day at Walmart not so long ago, I saw this eye catching box and decided to bring home...

Nestle Red, White & Blueberry Drumstick Sundae Cone
(strawberry frozen dairy dessert, blueberry sauce, and white confectionary coating with rice crisps in a chocolatey lined cone)

The cutout amuses me.

I dig the fun clear wrapper.
I take my first bite and realize that I've made a mistake.... No offense Cody, but these are not tasty. I expected it to be different, but at the same time, I still expected it to be tasty. I remember Drumstick of old and just assumed that they would make the flavor profile click way better than it does here.

It's just not good.... or, maybe I should say it's bland... and also not good. Not spit-out terrible, but it's just so flat and there is zero synergy between the flavors. Maybe a little more sodium in the mix would have helped too because there is zero pop here.
Honestly, this product just feels lazy. You've already got 3 different flavors trying to co-exist, and then you leave the chocolatey lining in the mix. Big surprise, it doesn't help... at all.
I was so bored eating this. I had to force myself to finish it. They do run these by taste testers right?
I almost bought the new cake pop flavor yesterday, but now I feel like I don't want to bother... or at least I wish I had bought those instead of these.
On Second Scoop: For a second I thought I was being too hard on these bars... and then I hit the blueberry swirl. So awful (to me anyway, maybe you love blueberry and you'll enjoy it). I feel like it ruins everything and makes you not want to finish the cone. Somehow it just nullifies everything. I'm guessing I wont finish the other two cones.
Verdict? SO BORING
Buy Again? no chance

I was wondering if you would try this or the cake pop flavor. I have had the cake pop flavor the past few days. The outer coating and frosting flavor was good, but the frozen dairy desert was so flavorless and insubstantial. I want to call it vanilla but it honestly didn't have much flavor at all. They grew on me a little but nowhere enough to recommend.
ReplyDeleteSounds like similar experience here. I wouldn't recommend it even to review. I have a similar nostalgia for late 2000's drumsticks.
Thanks! We'll see if anyone else chimes in, but it won't take much to convince me not to try the cake pop version.
DeleteIm so glad I didn't try these, thanks for providing this info! I did recently purchase the PB Lovers Drumstick 8 pack and was pleasantly surprised how delicious they were. I'll be purchasing more of those in the future!
ReplyDeleteI'll try those one of these days!
