Shake Shack Shakes

We did it! We finally made it to Shake Shack (way) back in December! You see, many (many) moons ago, Massachusetts didn't have any Shake Shacks, and that was sad, but then in March 2013, our first Shake Shack opened in Chestnut Hill, and that just happened to be where we were on one particular Sunday.

My wife ordered first and went with the Christmas Cookie Shake (on the right). It's sugar cookie frozen custard topped with whipped cream and sprinkles.

I went with the Apple Cider Donut Shake (on the left) which is apple cider donut frozen custard topped with whipped cream and cinnamon donut crunch.

I tried mine and it was tasty. My wife tried hers and it was tasty. We switched and then we agreed mine was better. Her shake was solid, but to me the cookie flavor and sweetness was just a bit too intense. If you've had any kind of cookie/cake/batter shake, then you know what I mean when I say it was a bit too much and could have been dialed back a bit.

My shake on the other hand was dialed in pretty perfectly. Plenty of cinnamon flavoring, but not a straight up cinnamon that lacked flavor depth. Instead, it was more in line with the cinnamon blast from a tasty apple cider donut. I will admit that I hit a few very dense donut crunch bits at the end which seemed a little out of place, but that's just old me being super picky. I really did love the shake.

So, yeah, 12 years later, but we finally made it, though in our very weak defense we did almost hit the one in Providence in the fall. Also, next time I may skip the burger and just get the shake (and probably an order of French Fries to split with my wife).

Note: There was also a Chocolate Yule Log shake, but we didn't make it back before it was gone. I assume these shakes will be back at the end of the 2025, so I guess consider this your first recommendation for then.
