[New for Early 2023] It's very weird to walk past the Haagen-Dazs section every week and not see new pints. It just seems wrong... but thankfully I've started walking by these at least.
Haagen-Dazs Strawberry Butter Cookie Cones

You know I love labeling on my treats, and this one even has a best by date!
That's a pretty looking cone.
I start with what's on top. I don't get a huge burst of flavor from the cookie pieces, but they have decent crunch. I don't know if the white chocolate stood out either. What does stand out is the raspberry sauce. It's quite potent (it's not just on the sides but in the middle too).
As you know (or maybe you don't), I'm not always the most patient person, and I really want to skip the top part and get to the cone... which eventually I do.
It's a very unique experience and something that takes me several bites to process. I think the first few bites I was still thinking about the swirl (especially since I found a core of sauce near the top of the cone), but once the swirl faded away, I thought about the cone 90% of the time.
What was I thinking exactly? Well, one, is this thing going to shatter in to a gazillion pieces? The answer is no, but it will leave a few crumbs all around. Two, am I going to hurt myself by biting in to this thick cone? Again, the answer is no.
Here, I have a better way to put it. Do you ever eat Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies? This cone is basic a giant Milano cookie, just a bit more solid. It's even got that Milano chocolate thing going because of the inner chocolate cookie. Did I just elevate your interest in these cones now?
Have I mentioned that the cone's not huge? At 270 calories (83g), it's not necessarily a filling treat and I definitely thought about a second one... but I resisted... this time.
Added bonus: there's a little puddle of chocolate at the bottom of the cone.
So that's what I have for the first try of these. I didn't instantly fall in love, but I have a strong suspicion that these are going to win me over.
On Second Scoop: I was looking forward to this second cone but all I got was disappointment. I feel like I should like it, but nothing clicked. I don't love that solid strawberry swirl in the middle, the bits on top don't excite, and the cone was less enjoyable this time. I didn't get that same milano vibe that I did the first time. Maybe I'll blame my cold and not the cone...
Verdict? meh

I bought the coffee version and had the same experience. Your description of the cone is spot on! For me the problem came with the ice cream. HD is one of my fav ice cream companies, and the ice cream tasted like frozen dairy dessert, ick! It had a weird, almost fake foamy texture which threw me. Still better than most novelties, although with that price tag, I wouldn't buy again!
ReplyDeleteSure don't know if I had a bad batch but the strawberry cone was downright nasty because it had a bitter taste! The ice cream has no flavor. For the price they are I expected a little bit at least a taste of heaven but instead it was the opposite. 10 minutes later I still have that taste in my mouth! It's like- what the heck! I will not be wasting my money on any of these small gross things ever again!! Sorry..just being honest...
ReplyDeleteI had the exact same experience with the strawberry I just tried! Disgusting, both me and my bf threw them away. The cone tasted like chemicals.
DeleteBitter? Do you think it was the cone flavoring that gave you that vibe or that something just went really wrong here? The cone is unique so just curious if that's the main problem here.
ReplyDeleteI just had the same experience of the ice cream tasting like almost nothing and the cone being nasty…not bitter necessarily, but definitely not sweet or good in anyway. It’s so bad I had to google to see if anyone else had a similar experience, I’m so relieved to know I’m not alone lol. That was awful, I literally don’t even want the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteThis was a huge disappointment. I love Häagen-Dazs ice cream, I mean it’s the best because how awesome the flavors are. So I was deeply surprised once I bit into the cone, no flavor whatsoever, it was on sale at my local food lion and now I know why.
