Turkey Hill Graham Slam Returns...

[Returning for 2023] Turkey Hill Graham Slam returns... as a frozen dairy dessert. That sentence makes me both happy and sad at the same time. In my 2015 review, I said they needed to get this one in Massachusetts, and here it is finally.... sort of...

Wow! Talk about a photo conveying the sad state of mainstream ice cream....

That's -mostly- better
(I'm not a fan of how the fake ice cream comes away from the sides of the container)

I dig in and am greeted by my old friend, a tasty take on graham. I'm also greeted by his compatriot, the light texture of frozen dairy dessert. It took me back to when Breyers ditched their ice cream recipes and tried to pawn off the change by saying "consumers prefer this easier to eat texture". It is still my contention that these survey results were not put in to proper context. I feel like the majority of those who prefer lighter treats were also the people who don't eat ice cream much.

Funny side note since I'm digressing anyway: over on the gram, someone said something like "how come all of these ice creams are suddenly becoming frozen dairy dessert?". My response was that this has been going on for years now. I have frozen dairy dessert reviews going all the way back to the summer of 2008!

Anyway... I will admit that Turkey Hill probably has one of the better frozen dairy dessert options out there. It retains a good amount of coldness while also not being super gummy. I prefer real ice cream, but I could also do worse.

Other thoughts: The swirl is good but I could use more of it. The little mallow cups mix things up, but they seem kind of chewy (marshmallow plus cold is not the best thing?)

The moral of the story? Plenty of flavor in what constitutes "mainstream ice cream" these days. I'll probably mix this with some turkey hill all natural vanilla at some point... wait, digress #2: have you noticed that turkey hill all natural is getting much harder to find? and if you do find it, it's probably one of only a handful of flavors. There are still 14 varieties listed on their webpage, but the most I could find was 5 (mild flavors only, and that could have been lingering stock).

On Second Scoop: To be clear, I am still in love with how much this one tastes like a literal graham cracker. That's giving graham flavor the respect it deserves. It might be worth trying to turn this one in to a milkshake. That said, a permanent boo on making this a frozen dairy dessert.

Final Foot Note: Incase you haven't noticed, Turkey Hill has gone from 1.5 quart containers to 1.44 quart containers (aka 46 instead of 48 ounces). Man, I miss half gallon containers...

Verdict?  flavorful
Buy Again?  probably not?
