Talenti Vanilla Peanut Butter Swirl Gelato

[New for 2021] Heading back to the office for the day means I can pick up another peanut butter snack on my way in. Ok, technically I wasn't bent on a nutty flavor, but I was certainly open to it.

Talenti Vanilla Peanut Butter Swirl Gelato (was #62)
vanilla gelato with roasted peanut butter swirl and mini peanut butter cups

That's not really inspiring...

And that's not terribly better...

Ok, that shot looks fairly tempting.

The swirl is good and easily my favorite part. Just look at the texture of it! Unfortunately the base is meh and does nothing to pep this up. It's not that it's bad-bad, it's just not adding anything. The cups don't help either. I really wanted (needed!) a little flavor burst to come from them but it never happens. No big chocolate blast and no added peanut butter blast. I definitely prefer the bigger cups you find in other flavors.

There's just not enough going on here. Sure, people who are looking for a more tame pb cup flavor might be amused, but the rest of us will be like "ummm, that's it?"

Again, it's not bad, and the swirl is good, but the swirl only gets us going. We've started the adventure, but now our truck is stuck in a pothole and that makes me sad. Talenti has been around for awhile now and I expect them to bring that experience with them when making new flavors. I guess you could argue that they are trying to make it different than their other peanut butter flavors, but, I really would have loved this one to be a more robust flavor.

On Second Scoop: It wound up being two months before I went back in to the office so I never finished this one. Whoops!

Verdict?  tame

  1. I wonder what it would be like to have a vanilla bean ice cream with peanut butter swirls.

  2. Meh, I don't think it would be terribly different.

This one is definitely falling in to a preference thing. I just like my PB flavors stronger. I might enjoy it more on the second scooping.

  3. Remember the Talenti flavor called peanut butter pretzel? Man that was probably one of the best flavors they’ve ever had. No idea why they retired it.

  5. I just tried their new Chocolate Pretzel Layers— I know it's not peanut butter-related, but if you're looking for a bold-tasting swirl... *chef's kiss*
