Talenti Organic Brown Butter Caramel Gelato

[New for 2019 - Retired] You know what? I keep forgetting that Talenti put out those four organic flavors this year. I just rarely ever see them. Do you see them? I want to say Stop & Shop has/had them briefly, and maybe Hannaford was the other place? Well today I splurge $5.99 for...

Talenti Organic Brown Butter Caramel Gelato #57

has a little ice on top

Does it look a little.... dense? I don't know if I got a freezerburned pint or they are all like this, but mine was pretty watery. The funny thing is that I avoided the older pints still marked with the NEW wrapper and grabbed the much newer pint.

That said, I did enjoy the flavor. It's got that sweet, Werther's like flavor that I've enjoyed in other brands (that I can't think of right now). You know a flavor is pretty good when you work through the freezer burn (or whatever this watery-ness is).

Not sure what else to say other than I am partially torn between returning the pint and eating it anyway... well, I guess I could look up other reviews to see if other people had texture issues. It was still "smooth" (ish), just not creamy.

On Second Scoop: So I had a few small scoops on day 2 and thought "maybe I should take this back?" On day 3, I remembered that I want to save the container and decided to push on through the rest of the pint. The flavor is still good and the watery factor is still there. I decided to smoosh up the last 20% of the pint to see if I could get the watered down taste under control. I guess it's better but not great... then I had a thought and decided to check the calorie content. It's 178 per 1/2 cup, that's a noticeable chunk lower than their regular stuff. I think that might explain the texture that reminds me more of water than cream but I'll need to sample another flavor to be sure.

Verdict?  decent but watery
Buy Again?  probably not

  1. I liked this so much, I bought a second pint months later. I haven't opened that one yet, working on my pumpkin ones, but I don't recall it being watery. I did have their non dairy once, which was watery.

  2. It kinda screams for a mix in. Brown Butter blondies would been amazing.
