Serendipity Salty Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream

[New for Fall 2019, still available early 2024] There are three new flavors from Serendipity that should be hitting your store shelves soon. I was fortunate enough to receive free samples so let's jump in to the one that got my attention (because it has "pretzel" in the name!).

Serendipity Salty Caramel Pretzel Ice Cream
vanilla ice cream with chocolatey covered pretzel bits
and salty caramel swirl

Lots of caramel, but not so photogenic at the moment.

I dig in and yeah, that swirl is salty alright! And it's completely inundating the top. The ice cream is swimming in a pool of saltiness and I'm not sure what to do with myself. I decide to aim at the base ice cream and do my best to just get a bit of swirl on my spoon and not more than that.

The pretzels seems pretty common, but I probably should have let it temper more so the pretzels would be easier to scoop out. They aren't consistently crunchy and I wish they had more coating. I need more chocolate to help balance out the salty swirl.

I continue on but it's a delicate operation. Too much swirl and you are stuck with that salty taste on your taste buds. I'm putting this one away for now.

On Second Scoop: I've been snacking on this one here and there, and no matter what I do, it still strikes me as too salty. I really want to love it so very, very much, but I can't. Iunno, I guess some of you aren't surprised since salted caramel has never really been my thing. I'm sure some of you will like it, but many of us will be left with a puddle of swirl at the bottom because we were trying to avoid the salty overload.

Note: Dulce de Leche says it also has a salty caramel swirl. I am afraid.

On Final Scoop: I need to clarify something. I opened the second pint to grab another picture and I need to point out that while you are (carefully!) digging in to this one, it is fun. It's just that when I stop eating it that I start getting hung up on the salty factor.

Verdict?  too salty
Buy Again?  nah

  1. Late post

Is it just me or do this pint look too similar to the Tasty brand. I saw light blue, bright oranges and some weird longer ice cream name with pretzel and thought it was Tasty.

  2. Ha! I didn't think of that but I can see how the bright blue lid might throw people off.
