Quick Scoop: Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto #22

[New for 2013] If you've been a reader for a really, really long time, then you might (vaguely) remember that my very first pint of Talenti was actually their Roman Raspberry Sorbetto. It was a bit of a shock for me, but thankfully it didn't scare me off from trying their excellent gelato. I bring this up because, well, the question is: have I matured enough to final appreciate the following product?

Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto #22
and yes, it really is that bright

I just can't get over how bright this one is.....oh man, I smell mangos... I'm so afraid... where's Nick when we need him... man up Dubba, you can do this! You like fruit... well, some fruits. Plenty of people like mangos... I've had mango in my juice before... once or twice anyway....

Whoa.... yeah... I'm still immature, that's for sure. This stuff is so potent, I do not like the flavor, I do not like it at all.. well, maybe a little, but it's an itty bitty little. I like mango way better when it's covered up by something else, like say 95% orange juice.

Now besides my childish tastebuds shrieking over having to try a new fruit flavor like this, I will admit that I am pleasantly shocked that there is some creaminess despite there being no cream of any sort. We've got dextrose and carob gum, but no milk. The texture is calling me to move forward, but I can't get over the taste. Hmmm, I wonder if I can pawn this off on my wife....

--- ahh! having flashbacks to my grandparents trying to get me to eat grapefruit ---

It's strong... so strong...
and it tastes like a fruit of some sort...
can I put it away now.... please? pretty please??

Yeah, this review is over and I'm still that little seven year old boy sitting next to my awesome grandpop at the breakfast table. I'm hoping grandmom has something besides grapefruit for breakfast. Anything will do, I'll eat any cereal, or toast, or scrambled eggs, just not grapefruit!

(I'll post a second scoop when after my wife tries it)

update: thanks to Mitch for pointing out that I forgot to mention what Alphonso Mangos are, so here's a wiki link from Nick. What can I say, I was too stunned to think about it  :)

Verdict?  it seems well made....
Buy Again?  not a chance in... kalamazoo

  2. if you like/love mangoes, you will love this. It's like you took a bunch of mangoes, mashed and froze them. Great for a hot summer day!

  5. Just tried their orange sorbetto. it had an odd taste to me. Kind of like orange metal if you can imagine that.

This is one of those times where I feel like a company should stick to what they do good. Trying to add to many things isn't always best.

  6. there are a few companies that do gelato and sorbetto both, just one of those things. I actually had their roman raspberry many, many moons ago and it was potent!

  7. @The Icon: Talenti has been making both gelato and sorbetto from the beginning. Heck sorbetto is even in their full name.

  8. This is my absolute favoritest flavor of Talenti's, haha. When I first tried it, I was in Florida in early 2013 and it was warming up nicely outside and I got this and basically drank it from the container as it melted, like a melty slushie drink, and oh my god I enjoyed it sooooooo much!

I've never in my life opened up a Talenti and not eaten the entire thing at once. I even tried sneaking a bite out of the Belgian Chocolate flavor just out of curiosity (I hate chocolate ice cream but my friend had left it in my freezer and like I said I got curious), and I ended up eating the entire thing. Of chocolate! I hate chocolate! Lol. That's how good Talenti is, man....

Also, I love an ice cream in a reusable container.
