Perry's Queen of Hearts Ice Cream

[Scoop shops for 2013, Pints in 2015] This may sound a little strange, but it's Friday, so bear with me. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone is the gift of not having to choose. Think about it. Choosing a gift for someone has become too complicated for our society, so we give gift cards. Problem is, you think you are helping, but you've just pushed the burden of choosing off to your friend. Ok, stick with me here. See, I have a freezer full of ice cream and I don't know what to eat next (I know, poor Dubba! so sad!). Well, Perry's has come along with this great free Taste Tester kit and it has a disclaimer. See, this ice cream isn't meant to last a year like something you buy from the freezer aisle. This is fresh packed ice cream meant to be eaten within a few days. I have no choice but to eat this first right? Well, quick eating challenge accepted! I wonder what flavor they'll announce next? Come on Queen of Hearts. Come on Queen of Hearts!

Woohoo! Today's facebook reveal is for Perry's Queen of Hearts ice cream. It's dark chocolate ice cream with a raspberry swirl and fudge filled hearts. Yay for dark chocolate!! Yay for raspberry!

Ok, not my best work, but I think you get how dark this one is. Let's just dig in because I have been thinking about this one all day. Oh yeah, it's smells as rich and chocolaty as it looks!

Hehehehe, the hearts are so cute! It's a shame this wasn't around for Valentine's Day.

Enough playing, time for some real scoops.... of this oh so chocolatey ice cream. Wow. This one is totally trying to go toe to toe with Chocolate Therapy (or even flourless chocolate cake). I'm digging the rich flavor. Wait, is that a little raspberry swirl I detect on my spoon? I'm trying to get more of the swirl but there are just so many fudgy hearts in the way (there's literally six of them bunched together where I am trying to dig).

Ok, there's the swirl. Hmmmm, not sure how I feel about it actually. The cherry was so sweet yesterday that I kind of expected the same today. This is more akin to the raspberry filling you might find in some high end candy. Actually, speaking of candy, there are so many hearts that I'm totally working up a chocolate coating all over my taste buds.

To be honest, I don't think this one needs the raspberry swirl. The flavor is already awesome without it, so why tweak it? I don't know, I'm just thinking they might actually lose a few votes because of the swirl. Only hard core chocolate fans (like myself) are going to repeat purchase a flavor like this and so the raspberry might dissuade some of that crowd from coming back. Iunno, it's a thought. It's not like there's a ton of the swirl, it's more of just a subtle vibe running through the pint. Hey, maybe they can make a King of Hearts without the swirl.

That minor nitpick aside, I'm loving this ice cream. Yes it's free and crazy fresh, but even then, the crazy amount of chocolate coating on every inch of my mouth right now, is, well, crazy awesome. I've never had an ice cream do that before. EVER. Some have tried, but those tasty hearts with their gooey centers have left a wonderful rich chocolate aftertaste that will last for a long time.

Verdict?  The hearts make this one epic
Buy Again?  Yup!

Update: This became an escapes flavor in 2015!

  3. Eating it now...by far the richest chocolate ice cream I've had. The raspberry swirl is faint but breaks up the chocolate overload (if there is such a thing) and the candy hearts are delicious! Now could we make this with a peanut butter swirl too? Yum!!
